Customer Reviews of 10 Feather Razor Blades NEW Hi-stainless Double EdgeCustomer Review: Smooth as silk Summary: 5 Stars
Just switched to DE safety razor a few days ago, though I have years of experience with cartridge-based shaving (Gillette Fusion). The Merkur set I bought came with a Merkur sample blade. It was good but not great. Today I tried the Feather. When shaving with the grain, I thought "this thing is not working, it feels smooth as silk." But boy was it working. It puts the Merkur to shame. I'm not sure I'll try anything else.
Update: I've been trying the Merkur and the Feather for a while now. I can testify to what many say about Feather: it took me a while to get the hang of it and avoid irritation or cuts. The Merkur is far more forgiving in this regard, perhaps because it's just not as sharp. A tough trade-off--I think I'll stock both.
Customer Review: Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
"Feather" accurately describes the touch that is all this blade requires. If you push it into your face too hard you will likely realize this immediately, in the form of pain. One full pass is all I need with these. No irritation, redness, or bumps, and no cuts whatsoever. Extremely sharp, handle with care. My thumb once slipped from using too much force while screwing on the handle of my razor and was neatly and effortlessly sliced fairly painfully. Which was good, I suppose, from a sharpness perspective, but not so much when it happened. I do not feel any need to continue experimenting with other blades in my sampler (though I probably will, just to see if anything can match these) after finding this blade (it's the third one I have tried.)
Customer Review: Shaving is now a great experience Summary: 5 Stars
Do not be afraid of shaving with DE Feather Blades - just be respectful. I decided to take the plunge with a DE razor and feather blades - I was fed up with the cost and the poor shave using 4 blade razors. I am simply amazed at the quality of the shave using a DE razor, and from my second shave on I have been shaving with the feathers. Do NOT use more than the weight of the razor, and you will be fine. My wife is amazed at how smooth my face is after shaving. Having said that, shaving is no longer a 5 minute "fast" process - it is now part of what feels like a very male ritual. Shaving has gone from being a chore to being something I look forward to - 20 minutes or so of truly selfish time.
Customer Review: Ninja sharp Summary: 5 Stars
Feather New Hi-Stainless has a reputation like the Ninjas. Part truth and part myth. Often you will hear people say to avoid because you will slice your face open when in truth it is simply a very sharp blade. It is my favorite blade due to the excellent craftsmanship that is needed to produce a blade this consistently sharp. Have used it in everything from a Parker 22R to a Gillette Slim Adjustable to a Gillette Super Speed and a Merkur Open Comb. Great performance in all razors. All that being said note that you cannot be careless. You cannot wake up, stumble into the bath and start hacking away. Be wide awake, mind you angle of attack and shave away.
Customer Review: Shaving with a Scalpel Summary: 4 Stars
By far the sharpest of the blades I've tried, the Feather will give a startlingly close shave. As the other users have pointed out, that sharpness is double-edged: you must pay attention to what you are doing, and you cannot hurry too much. Careless dragging of this blade will leave your face looking like a crime scene. A careful shave will produce a delightfully smooth cheek.
If, like me, you are switching from the crud in the drugstore, you may wish to start with a blade that is not quite as sharp, like a Merkur, before you tackle this one.
Five stars reduced to four for the shipping costs (yes you can do better if you look).
