Customer Reviews of Accu-Measure Fitness 3000 Personal Body Fat TesterCustomer Review: Exactly what I wanted Summary: 5 Stars
I have been looking for a set of plain plastic calipers. These are just what I wanted. Simple, easy to use, and with a little practice for consistency, very reliable. With electronic devices you have fluctuations based on hydration levels and other factors that cause results to be different at different times of the day. This product reads the same at any time of day.
It also does not require getting on the scales in order to moniter body fat. Reduce body fat and the inches will always go as well. That is not always true of the the fluctuating scale.
Sometimes simplicity is just so good.
Customer Review: Less accurate than I had hoped... Summary: 3 Stars
I am somewhat disappointed with my Accu-Measure 3000. Oh, it measures skinfold thickness well enough, but the accompanying chart only offers a limited range of body fat percentage readings.
Although the calipers are able to read skinfolds to the nearest millimeter, the chart offers only a very loose interpretation of the readings. The body fat percentages listed on the chart would seem accurate enough: 9.9%, 12.4%, 14.7%, etc., but there is no 10% or 12% or 15%. The chart gives the impression that it is accurate to the tenth of a percent, but it is not.
I had hoped for something more...
Customer Review: Seems pretty accurate Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this thing for years, but today I decided to test it's accuracy for the first time. I went to the wellness center on campus to have my bodyfat percentage tested by professionals. Their tests only differed by 0.4% of what my accu-measure tester measured. That's pretty good for a 5 dollar piece of plastic. Of course, that could have just been a coincidence. I'll be professionally testing my bodyfat percentage again in a few months, so we'll see if they still match up.
The one thing I wanted out of this product was accuracy, and this product delivered. So I give it 5 stars.
Customer Review: Difficult to use Summary: 2 Stars
I should have known that cheap plastic calipers wouldn't work very well. My main gripe is that you are supposed to squeeze the calipers together until you hear a click. Maybe my unit is defective, but the click is basically silent, and I almost always continue squeezing beyond where I should have stopped. I have resorted to trying to look at the calipers as I squeeze, although this is a little tricky. Tyring to stand up straight, pinch my skin, squeeze the calipers, and try and watch to know when to stop, all at the same time, is a little awkward and overwhelming. Would not recommend.
Customer Review: Cheap but still not worth it. Summary: 2 Stars
You get what you pay for I guess. The caliper is made of cheap plastic, the readings can vary greatly depending simply on how much pressure you apply. The is a small button on the left hand side of the caliper that is supposed to "click" to let you know when you have pressed hard enough. The button was out of alignment with the caliper on the one I received, you almost have to bend it to get the button into the slot. I tried using it a bunch of times but I don't have any real faith in the measurements I'm getting with it. This one is a bust.
