Customer Reviews of Airborne Effervescent Health Formula, Original Orange, 10 Tablets (Pack of 3)Customer Review: Modern Snake Oil! Summary: 1 Stars
There is absolutely, positively no empirical evidence that Airborne works. In fact, the company was recently forced to change the claims on their label because they couldn't provide any (ANY!!) supportive studies showing that the product did anything. It turns out their "offices" are little more than a home garage & the "CEO" runs from television cameras. You know the type!!
Your money is better spent on orange juice and a good mattress on which to get decent sleep. This product doesn't even warrant one star and Amazon is irresponsible in allowing this to be sold on their site. People who think it's had an effect on them aren't considering the variables of other underlying factors (i.e. they may have come in contact with less virulent cold viruses, might be sleeping better overall, getting more exercise, eating more healthly, etc.)
Customer Review: It DEFINITELY worked for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't get colds very often, but they almost always start with an itchy, scratchy throat. I used to gargle with warm salt water, which would move the cold from my throat into either my head (sinuses) or my chest.
Well, the Sunday before Easter I started to feel the beginnings of a scratchy throat. I went to Walgreen's and bought Wal-borne. Took two doses Sunday night and two more Monday morning. And I was also gargling with salt water. All day Monday I felt progressively worse. Tuesday morning I woke up feeling 100% better! As if I had never been sick.
I've only had to use it that one time, and I'm sure I would have had my usual 3-week cold if I hadn't swallowed that Wal-borne on day # 1. I think everybody owes it to him/herself to try it, at least.
Customer Review: Part of my study kit. Summary: 5 Stars
I was initially skeptical of this product. When I was studying long hours for a series of professional exams and not getting much sleep, I knew that catching a cold (it was winter) would seriously mess up my rhythm and possibly impact my score. Since I ride the subway every day, and work in a crowded office, I took Airborne every time I felt a cold coming on (more than once), and then every day for the 2-weeks preceeding the exam. This was probably overkill, but I wasn't taking any chances. The end result was that I didn't get sick-- even when I felt a cold coming on, it soon passed. I now keep a few tubes of airborne in the kitchen cabinet and my desk drawer. I highly recommend this product. Some people say that it works on the placebo effect, but my experiences would say otherwise.
Customer Review: I'll admit the box has great artwork! Summary: 1 Stars
The truth is that there is no reliable clinical evidence that shows that Airborne is at all effective in reducing symptoms or preventing the common cold. The one "clinical study" performed, at the behest of the company, is of extremely dubious quality (and the link to this study is not even on the product's web site any longer). While I have met people who have said that Airborne helps them, this is almost certainly a placebo effect. If you wish to research this product, Scientific American, The New York Times, and the "Orac Knows" blog web sites have good articles on it, and a little digging will find many more. Zinc lozenges, on the other hand, do have some clinical data to back up their efficacy, so I would highly recommend that you spend your money there instead.
Customer Review: Works Summary: 4 Stars
I was dubious. But recently I got a head cold and had to work the upcoming week. I am the type that if I get a head cold at least one day it will infect my eyes and I will be unable to work because my eyes will water. I can't take the full dose, vitamin c makes me sick in too great a dose, but I took two per day. At my first trickle down my throat I took this. I was amazed it did seem to make me feel better immediately. I am going to guess that has something to do with the effervescent bubbles soothing the sore throat. By the end of the day I felt significantly better and the next day... only a slight scratching feeling. I did supplement with Vitamin D as well, but, I avoided a nasty head cold. Just be careful with the supplement as it has a lot of "C" in it.
