I have learnt better, in less than a year.
The unit works great to begin with but its accuracy deteriorates overtime. Over a very short time. We drink beers and play foosball every alternate Wednesday night. For the first three months, I could drink 4 beers and still stay under 0.07, today (7 months later) I do not have to drink and the unit will still show 0.07 even after 10 hours of sleep with no beers in the last 4 days; this with all the care taken to wait before measuring, not use the unit too much etc ...
Well, this alone is not the reason I gave this unit 1 star.
I know my unit shows me 0.16 for just 2 beers but I am sure I can drive fine and I drive. As luck would have it, a CHP stops me and asks if I have had anything. I just stay honest, he asks me to walk out and do some funny stuff. After 15 minutes of the stupid tests, he asks me, "You seem fine but why are you so nervous, why are you sweating like you got something ..." I tell him I have an old unit and it showed me way over the limit before I started driving. I think the officer was nice enough to me, he let me take a breathalyzer test as an option and it came out just 0.03 (this unit showed me 0.16)
Moral of the story: This unit is a toy, not something you can rely upon to decide whether you should drive or not. I'm sure my unit stopped giving any accurate results in about 20 or so tests.
Yes, I've heard about calibration but after such few uses and such an incident(this unit almost got me arrested because I was nervous about the wrong results!) I'm sure the best way to know how much I have had is to count the number of beers.
