The item did not work out of the box, acting like the battery was low and would error out when taking the test. I tested several sets of different brands of batteries on a voltmeter and determined them all to be good, none of them helped this product work any better. I immediately returned it and purchased a similar model from this same company through Sharper Image, which stopped working two weeks later, claiming I was a .39 even sober (At .39 BAC, most people would need to be hospitalized). I followed all precautions set forth in the manual and feel these products are not made to last and others should spend their money more wisely.Customer Review: Quite Handy

I bought this for my boyfriend for his birthday, and he loves it. We took the train to the city one night, and thought we were fine to drive by the time we got back to the station. Just to be sure, we tested ourselves. Sure enough, we were both a little over, so we took a nap in the backseat until one of us was good to go.
It's also a fun toy when you want to guess who will blow the highest percentage, or to test yourself the next morning to see if you still have alcohol in your system. :)
The only annoying thing is that you have to wait about 15 minutes after consuming alcohol to use it.

I tested this unit at home both in the morning after no alcohol to prove it showed nothing and then at night after having 2 glasses of wine and it worked great! It is easy to use. I did have to replace the batteries it came with with new ones which is to be expected with any electronic purchase that comes with batteries. They always come with cheap batteries. I would recommend this unit. I bought it to keep at home for when my teenager comes home. In case I need to prove/disprove alcohol usage.Customer Review: Breath Alcohol Tester Saves Lives

I purchased this product for my 24 year old son, who is an alcoholic with one DUI & illegal U turn already. After the first dozen or so uses he decided that he must reduce his intake if he intends to drive home, and he will be relying on designated drivers and/or taxis much more frequently now that he sees the results of the test. Thank you, AlcoHAWK, he and I both believe your tester saves lives.

You have to wait about 5 or more minutes between each use, if you use it too fast it gives you all sorts of error messages, and continues to give you all sorts of errors. I've rarely used it over the few months I had it, and now its not working at all. I just keep blowing 0.000. I've tried resetting it. Haven't quite figured out the calibration part.
It's fun and useful, but not very reliable.
