Customer Review: Takes too long

I bought this product about a month ago and it seems to be pretty accurate. The reason I gave it only two stars is because the environment needs to be pretty much perfect before you can use it. I tried using it before driving a few times and after the 60 second timer was up, it counted down from 10 over and over again until it eventually gave me an SN error. Then I had to restart the device, and the same thing happened. It took me an additional 20 minutes to be able to actually use it to check my BAC because the same error kept occurring. When this happens it gets very frustrating and makes me wonder if it will ever work. Eventually it does work, but it takes so long that you would probably start driving before checking your BAC because you're tired of waiting for it to be ready to use. That makes this product as a breathalyzer very ineffective because it takes too long for it to work. When I try using it at home for fun it works just fine, but when I'm actually out having a few drinks and I want to check myself before driving, then it has its issues and gives me errors. I would say this product is mostly for fun and if you're looking for a serious breathalyzer to save yourself from getting a DUI, then I would definitely recommend going a step higher because this product just doesn't do the trick.Customer Review: Seems accurate and it's easy to use

I mainly bought this for peace of mind when I have a party at my place and want to make sure people who've been drinking and think they're ok to drive really are. My family and friends and I have been trying it out at various times (when we don't plan to drive) during small parties/bbqs. The main trick is to make sure you haven't *just* taken a sip of alcohol. This throws off the breathalyser because it senses the alcohol in your mouth and not in your system. You'll get an above average reading in this case. To make sure the reading is accurate, you can rinse out your mouth and wait fifteen minutes or so (no drinks) and test again. At that point, I've always found it to be believable. This unit has a countdown after you turn it on and tells you when it's ready. It also beeps after you've breathed in it long enough to get a good reading (about 5 seconds). It comes with a few plastic mouthpiece covers. This seems to be plenty because they can be washed and reused. So, I didn't purchase any additional mouthpiece covers.Customer Review: Works as Described

Easy to use. Works as described. I bought it as a lark - just to see exactly how "drunk" I was. It's been fun at parties & drinking w/friends. However, having a measuring stick for alcohol has really slowed down my consumption - which no doubt is a good thing. I'd compare this benefit to counting calories. When counting calories, one tends to eat less & eat healthier. This breathylizer has the same effect. I'd love to find a breath tester for calories! By the way, one of this products greatest advantages is that it is SLIM & you can easily slip it into a pocket, or purse, and carry it with you anywhere. You don't have to leave it in your car! (keeping in mind that most of us with a blood alcohol level over .08 would find it difficult to go back into the party & call for a cab, after we've already ventured out & warmed-up the car. THIS IS A TOOL THAT YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO CARRY WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES).Customer Review: Simple to use, seems accurate

This machine is compact, stoutly desiged, and with simple buttons to operate. You can buy the 50 pack of extra mouth pieces which is a good idea if you've got a crowd (put them in a ziploc when done so they can be washed and reused).
We've compared this machine to less expensive ones purchased by friends, and ours reads higher (but then again, given the condition of the people being tested, a higher reading may be prudent). Some of the cheapies max out at .20, this one goes to .30--for what it's worth.
It's a great tool to have so people can check themselves before they get in a car. And it's a fun party trick so long as you don't whip it out every time the gang gets together--you might not get invited next time.

having read reviews for his product I was under the impression that this was the best value for money product on the market for this application - reviews are subjective I know - but having lived with the meter for a couple of weeks it has some serious flaws. 1) it needs to be recalibrated on a frequent basis which costs almost as much as the unit. 2) I ordered three units and every one showed significantly different readings taken from the same subject simultaneously. 3) the amount of breath required to obtain a reading is unusually high and most people being tested "ran out of breath" before the test was completed resulting in an error display.
Conclusion - pay a bit more and get a higher quality unit that actually works
