Customer Review: Good unit, but fairly expensive

I use this in a bedroom environment. The build quality appears quite good, and the fit between the filter element and the housing is nice and tight, which is critical for the unit to be effective. The A350 takes a single, large filter element which is easy to replace. There is an ion generator which can be turned on and off, however, other than a light on the front, it is not noticeable whether it really is producing ions which do anything. Alen advertises this is an 'ozone free' ion generator. I can generally smell ozone if a purifier generates any, and I can't detect any from this unit.
The noise on low speed (level 1 of 4 levels) is very low, however, level 2 produces noticeable noise (I guess one could get used to it) and I don't think anyone could sleep with it on level 3 or 4. As others have said, using level 1 or 2 while sleeping and 3 or 4 while not in the room is probably a good strategy.
It is unfortunate that the 'air cleaner/purifier' industry (like some others, such as the water purifier market) is rife with high price markups and questionable claims regarding units and widely varying quality. If one is not careful, one could pay a lot of money for an ineffective unit. I would say the A350 is a very effective unit, but it does cost a lot of money. Comparing prices and quality in this niche market is difficult, as there are some reputable companies with good quality but there are a LOT of disreputable companies with poor quality.
Overall, a quality product - but the markup/price is a too high to call this a great value. This really isn't a hi-tech cutting edge product ...
If you need single room air cleaning, this is an effective unit and can clearly help people maintain healthier indoor air quality.

After receiving this purchase from Amazon, my Alen 350 came out of its box looking definitely worse for ware. There were scuffmarks on three sides of the purifier and I couldn't even look at the filter because the front panel was jammed shut. It was clearly a used product. Calling Amazon directly to ask about a replacement, I was told that Amazon doesn't take any responsibility for my product because they didn't make any money from my purchase. As they sold it, they obviously got some cut of the price. This upset me as many other websites were offering the Alen 350 at the same price with free shipping, which Amazon still charged for. I had purchased the purifier through Amazon so that they would ensure its proper delivery. After speaking with Dynadirect, I will get a replacement purifier, but it will be about three weeks after my purchase. I would highly recommend buying this product through a different online service.
I should mention that Amazon did pull through as I had further problems with my Alen 350 purifier. I decided to return the damaged purifier from Dynadirect for a refund and purchase the purifier from someone else. Unfortunately, Dynadirect stopped receiving calls and their voice mail boxes filled. As I could no longer contact them, I turned to Amazon to help. They were willing to help me with this problem and I received my reimbursement within their given time frame. Although this was far from a good experience for me, I am happy to shop with Amazon again.

My wife has dust allergies and we have two cats. She used to have heavy bouts of sneezing and a running nose while in bed at night - We put one of these units running on the 2 setting (out of 4) in the bedroom and her allergies diminished to an extant that we both now get a lot more sleep. We got a second unit for the downstairs.
My only problem with the unit are the controls. The noise increase from the lowest setting 1 (which doesn't seem to have much filtering power) to setting 2 is quite drastic. It took me a while to get used to sleeping with the noise at setting 2. 3 and 4 are too loud for sleeping or daily use - so we only use those when we are cleaning or for freshening up the kitchen from strong cooking odors. I wish there was a dial that allowed for control over the fan strength/noise.
Also - the dust/smell indicators don't seem to be accurate - thus we never use them the auto setting. Ever since we got the units the dust indicator has been on max. I even put the units the outside and in different parts of the house and can never get the indicator to lower from the highest setting no matter how long it runs. This is not a problem however - since I don't use the auto setting.

I had to share what an excellent air purification system and customer service I've found with the Alen Corp.
I have a daughter with Autism and extreme allergies to everything-especially environmental allergens like dust, mildew, chemicals, pollution, pollen, etc. and have spent thousands of dollars trying to reduce the levels in our home.
I've tried Electrocorp, Aller Air, Holmes, Panasonic, and have been dissatisfied by performance, ease & thoroughness of cleaning, and customer service in getting replacement filters.
I've had my Alen 350 running over a year, and can tell how effective it is when I change the filter and clean the housing,(which is really easy by the way) & how much we suffered when we were without it 3 wks at the beginning of Spring. When I experienced a minor problem with it after our one year anniversary, I was helped immediately and graciously by customer service-they even followed up to make sure the solution was satisfactory! I've just decided to replace my downstairs unit (another brand) with another Alen unit based upon all the above........
they believe so heartily in their products they offer LIFETIME WARRANTY-unheard of in these days and times.

After spending some time researching the large number of air purifiers on the market, I decided this would be the best option in regard to price, efficiency and quality. The A350 had good reviews for the most part, so I went ahead and ordered it. The anticipation was high waiting for it to arrive and, since its arrival, it has not let us down. This seems like a well-built product and I anticipate many years of service out of it (it comes with a lifetime warantee). It's got four fan speeds, and we seem to use 2 the most, particularly when sleeping. Three and four are a bit too noisy, four being fairly aggressive. We like this though, particularly if we've been away from the house for a while and we want some quick air cleaning. The controls on the machine are simple yet very functional, and it seems to me that my sinuses are not as clogged since having this purifier. This review is fairly long, but the reviews were very helpful to me in choosing a product. This is the only air purifier I have ever owned, but am very happy with it this far. I hope this review has been helpful. I'd say get one if you're reading this and considering it. You've got nothing to lose but some air pollution.
