There is no magic to carbon and hepa filtration- carbon picks up the VOCs and hepa traps the particles... pretty simple. The magic for an air purifier is in the blower and the ease with which filters can be accessed and changed. Alen got the magic in this unit. The low fan setting is virtually (and amazingly) silent. On high, this unit can really moves some air. I'm unconvinced negative ions do anything at all, but this unit also has an ionizer. The front cover comes off easily and filter changes are a breeze. The lifetime warranty is impressive and reassuring. One slight problem that others have experienced... if the fan retainer nut is the least bit loose, you may hear a clicking (or ticking) sound. Alen responded quickly to my inquiry about the problem and recommended I remove the back panel (phillips screws) and tighten the fan retaining nut. The nut was already tight, so I just removed the nut and the fan and then reassembled and re-tightened. Problem cured. It was clear Alen would have gladly exchanged the unit if my tinkering didn't work. And oh yes, my winter allergies are history and no more musty smelling VOCs in the air.Customer Review: Breathing easier

The doctor told me last year that I have an allergy of some sort... but after doing several tests, they were unable to identify what. I went for several weeks with a "winter allergy".
After running this unit over Thanksgiving and running it non-stop for the last few weeks I can say, I am breathing much easier. Even a few weeks ago I thought I was on my way to getting a cold as I was getting the familiar mucus in my throat... all that is gone after running this for a week in my home.
It should be noted that we have 2 cats (although the tests showed I wasn't allergic to them), and I have always noticed we seem to have quite a bit of dust at the end of the week after dusting just the week before. After running this for a week, I already noticed a dramatic reduction in dust.
I would highly recommend this unit for folks who have experience "winter allergy's". As you close up your house to keep the warm air in, the dust and whatever else cannot escape and just gets recirculated with the heater.

I received this unit as a Christmas gift (I've been suffering from some pretty nasty allergies), and I love it! It's fairly loud and high-throughput at the two higher speed settings, but it's whisper-quiet at the lowest setting and creates a pleasant gentle breeze. I've got it positioned under my (quite large) desk, so I usually run it at the lowest speed when I'm working at my desk and at the second-highest speed the rest of the time. It's a great white noise machine at the higher setting (we've got several neighbors with dogs), and it really has improved my allergies.
If I leave it off for a day or two, I start to feel the difference in the morning with stuffy nose and scratchy throat. It's been incredibly helpful. Also, the fact that it has a little series of lights to remind you when to change the filters is great. I haven't had to replace them yet (yay!), though it looks like I'll have to put in a new filter in 2-3 months. This is probably one of the best gifts I've received.

After doing a good deal of research, I purchased the A350 for our 1 bedroom apartment in NYC primarily for the dust. We've only had it for about a month, but I couldn't be happier. The setup it very easy, it runs very quiet (we keep it on speed 2 while we're in the room, and speed 3 while we're out and asleep), and it's worked wonders on our dusty apartment. If we have people over, we can put it down to level 1 and you can't even hear it on. Level 4 does sound like it's about to take off, but we've been fine leaving it on 3. Before we used it, I had to dust every single day...literally. We are in an older building, overlooking a construction site. Now, since we've started using it, I've only had to dust once, maybe twice a week. Of course it doesn't get rid of all of the dust, but it's been so amazing that I've already ordered the tabletop Alen T100 for the bedroom. And now they ship an all white model of the A350 (no more blue front!). Definitely recommend!Customer Review: Great customer service along with a great product!

I purchased my second Alen 350 air purifier in October 2009, as I loved the first one so much. It did a very good job of keeping my allergies to my cats in check.
The second Alen purifier started making a horrible noise and I contacted customer service.
CK from customer service got back to me within a couple of hours and told me they would be sending out a replacement purifier immediately.
I was quite shocked and pleased at how CK handled the whole problem, as I was expecting and preparing to wage a war to get this problem rectified, as these units aren't inexpensive.
I can say it was a pleasure doing business with this company.
In this business environment and horrible economy, more companies could benefit from using this business model of firmly standing behind what they sell.
