Customer Review: a bit of my experience...
Summary: 3 Stars

I don't normally write reviews for goods but since I like to read them be4 I shop, I figure out I should write this one for Alli weigh-loss pills so others could share my points. Alli works okay for me. There was a period of time I've been using it continually for about two monthes and I lost around 5 pounds (first I got to admit I was not "over-weight" defines by the product but I really want to loss some of my body weight). Shame on me because I was too lazy to do exercises daily (even when I did it, it last no more than 5 minutes per day...). However, due to the side effect, I really paid attention on what I ate for my meals. I almost avoid all kinds of snacks and controlled the fat under 15g for a single meal. And so I did it, even though I wasn't quite satisify with the 5 prouds I lost. It also made me felt healthier and better, psychologically. However, I couldn't lost more than 5 prouds no matter how I tried. I was quite upset about that and quite using this med after two monthes. Without the med (the nasty side effect) I started to return to my old eating habbits and thus my weight regain to the original scale later. However, I thought if I could continually using the dieting pattern and do some exercise daily I could lost more. I am planning to give it another try soon.

The side effect could be very nasty sometimes, but only happend a day or two after I ate very high fat meals. After I took the pills more than a week, the side effect would happen as soon as I ate very oily food. If unprepared, it would really embarrassing you. These including fart with oil and making great sounds when I was using bath room. The oil thing really is a disadvantage; fortunately, if I kept my diet or even regular meals (am a Chinese) none of these would happen. However, on some occasions you really got to EAT!! I went on to a cruise trip when I was taking the med and I knew I wasn't able to resist the food, but I didn't want to ruin my trip (and my life) with the side effects so I came up with this solution--I was using nightime long maxi-pads even though I wasn't having period(excuse me on this please if you don't feel well, but this is a girl thing only...) and even though I could felt the side effect, it wouldn't bother me at all. Hope this trick is useful for y'all ladies.

Prehaps it was the diet that made me lost weight, but without Alli (or the side effect of it) I couldn't really make it in the first place.

Customer Review: Works great, if you follow the directions and diet properly.
Summary: 5 Stars

I started taking Alli in January after I went to the doctor and saw how much I weighed.

I don't have the opportunity to work out like I want to since my grandmother has been sick. I have to stay home with her everyday except when my mom is off and I have to do school completely online, so I don't get to get out like I would like to.

Once I started talking Alli, I cut out the foods I ate regularly that were fattening (cheese, 2% milk, beef, etc). I found substitutions for the foods I liked that were not so fattening like fat free/low fat versions of the food. I also enjoy low fat yogurt in place of ice cream, especially the Ben and Jerry's low fat yogurt in grocery stores, I have tried 3-4 flavors and it tastes great. Also, being stuck in the house so much made me eat out of boredom, so every time I went in the kitchen, I thought, "Am I really hungry? Or am I bored?". I have also got into the habit of weighing myself everyday.

As for the price of Alli, it is expensive (especially on my budget) but I found it was worth it. I was so use to just eating fast food, and since I started taking Alli, I have cut down on fast food, and it has saved me a lot of money.

As for how it works, I think it is great. You don't need to worry about the side effects if you follow through with the diet. If you are nervous, just wear a pad or something. If you absolutely cannot avoid eating a fattening meal one day, just don't take the pill.
Since January I have lost about 25lbs. I was a size 12/14 now I am a size 6/8. Since it has gotten warmer, I go swimming every day, and walk and run. (I can actually run much longer without getting winded/tired as fast) I also found out that my blood pressure has improved. I feel much healthier, and more confident. I use to hate wearing tank tops, but now I even feel comfortable wearing a bikini. The best thing for me is when my boyfriend came up behind me and picked me up and said I felt light. :)

I love how I look now, and I can't wait to lose more. I just ordered another bottle, and since my family has seen how it works for me, I have some members that now want to try it to.

I highly recommend it. You can even go to [...] for more stores, faq's, etc. I use to think I could never lose weight, and alli has made it easy for me to maintain a better, healthier lifestyle.

Good luck!

I started taking Alli about two months ago to augment my diet and exercise program. I'm active, and with a BMI of 26, I just wanted to lose about 20 lbs that wasn't coming off with my fairly intense cardio routine and low-fat diet. I would take Alli as directed with meals containing some fat but rarely more than the suggested amount of fat. And I did experience the treatment effects with meals within the suggested fat allotment: frequent, oily stools, random oily discharge (very gross), and stomach pain about 45 minutes after eating. However, they weren't severe enough to make me stop taking the med. Over time, I didn't lose an ounce but kept taking the pill as directed, hoping that it would kick in over time. It didn't. And then I had a higher fat meal after taking one Alli pill. I know that the`treatment effects' are supposed to act like aversion therapy, but this was ridiculous. I ended up in the ER with crippling, stabbing stomach pain and dry-heaving. I had such a bad reaction that stomach pumping was treatment of choice. The ER doc suggested I throw the pills out as soon as I got home.

After recovering from the ER ordeal and promptly pitching the bottle of Alli (the aversion therapy didn't work to GlaxoSmithKline's advantage this time), I did a little bit of research and found that I was not the only one with adverse reactions requiring medical care. This med has been linked to pancreatitis, gall stones, and possibly colon cancer (research was kind of spotty on this). Will everyone react this way to the drug? Of course not. Every med has side effects and not everyone can tolerate certain drugs. However, I hope that people will consider the risks and weigh the benefits before spending quite a bit of money on something that may not work.

Overall, I ended up with nasty side effects, a considerable ER bill, and no weight loss. And for those it does work for, you may become dependent on the drug for continued weight loss or even weight maintenance (this is from the actual website)- quite a price to pay to lose 2 to 3 more pounds more than you would have with diet and exercise alone. If Alli works for you, awesome- more power to you. But before you buy, please read the fine print- the pill may cost you a lot more than you bargained for.

Customer Review: OTC version of a former prescription med

Cons:
-Anal Leakage, & other realted bathroom issues. (seriously, but preventable by eating healthier)
-Awful, painful gas and bloating.
-It IS $55 bucks, they ain't giving it away.
-You have to carry pills with you all the time if you eat out alot, taking it too early could make the side effects worse.

I am very glad the FDA cleared this type of drug for over the counter sale. There used to be a very similar pill sold by prescription only (xenical). I suppose considering the overwhelming problem we have with weight in the USA, they actually decided to make the seemingly moral choice to put this out so everyone could purchase it. I suppose the underlying reason (thinking special interest groups) would be that the food industry would benefit greatly by having people eat more, as a psychological side effect of this medication. Whether it's true or not, this is what I did. I have had a *ahem* "disorder" that 'forced' myself to eat low fat, healthy foods. I bought Allia so I could taste pizza for the first time in a year without feeling bad about it. I ended up eating pizza pretty often (and I did really enjoy it). I am not overweight, I was a few pounds underweight, and Allia did not 'help' me remain at my low weight. I gained weight, a little bit (probably healthy weight). But then it leveled off, straight through my Blue Bell Anniversary Cake ice cream fetish period. Since I have been off (a few months), I have gained MORE weight, so I am re-adjusting my eating habits and considering buying it again. Yes it gave me gas and an overall not happy intestinal experiance (which is really only an issue when eating pizza or high fat foods), but it's pretty much worth it. I would reccomend it, and I wish they made one to block carbs this effectivley.

Customer Review: Great for weight loss if you are ready and willing!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is a wonderful weight loss aid - I have lost 41 pounds in 7 months (and is much cheaper on Amazon than it is in the stores)!! You DO have to include diet and exercise (but anything that tells you that you don't is either lying, unhealthy or both)! Here is what Alli does for you:
1. It burns away 1/4 of the fat that you eat without any stimulant

2. It makes you lose 50% more weight than you would on your own (so if you were going to lose 10lbs you lose 15lbs instead!

3. It has no stimulants that can damage your heart and make you shaky and unstable - those are very bad for you.

4. Alli is the ONLY weight loss OTC drug that is FDA approved - meaning they know that it is proven and safe!

If you are just starting out I would recommend the starter kit because it includes some great extra goodies (like a case to carry the pills with you when you are on the go and some books that help to get you started).

There are a few warnings to give:
1. If you eat too much fat (more than 15g of fat per meal depending on the person maybe you could eat more but probably shouldn't since you are dieting anyway) YOU WILL GET ILL THE NEXT DAY. But I like to see it as a deterrent - it keeps you from over binging. If you really want something, I like using a one bite rule. Just take one bite - get that wonderful taste in your mouth - and move on to your healthier meal. It is hard but it is definitely worth it! (If you do know of a special occasion where you want to eat really fancy fatty food make sure you don't take the medicine for about 4 days before)

2. Start eating healthy about a week prior to starting the program so you don't have any residual fat just to make sure you don't get sick.

3. IT IS ONLY AN AID! You have to be ready to eat right and exercise or your progress will be minimal at best.

The side effects sound scary but are most definitely worth it if you have weight to lose and want something to accompany diet and exercise! It has worked for many friends and family - the best for those who are truly dedicated to an exercise program.

They do have a website that can help you with tips and plans! Good luck!
