Customer Review: There are MUCH better ways to loose weight
Summary: 1 Stars

Hello my friends,

I have looked over the comments here and elsewhere. Please save your money on any "pill" for weight loss. The results that I have seen are barely on par with just eating the right foods, getting proper rest and exercise. The answer is not in a pill. It never has been.

The pharmaceuticals are making billions a year trying to sell you something to make you feel better or to fix something. The food industry has marketed tons of "quick fix" foods for over 20 years to save you time. They are all in cahoots to make you sick so that they can make you better. And it has been BIG business for a long time. I say "ENOUGH" to these big businesses. Think about it. We all have been "Programmed" by commercials. I say; it's time for all of us to take back control of our lives!

Dr. Hyman has written a book called UltraMetabolism. Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss It works! It works, because the information contained in his book explains what different fats and added ingredients do to you. He breaks down nutrition to the core and tells you how to shop for the right foods and what to stay away from. It is going to require an attitude change and lifestyle change. It's going to require planning for the busy household who relies on meals coming out of a box or can; that has a nutrition label on it.

My friends; big businesses and the government have not done their job to make us healthy and wealthy and wise. Please do not rely on them! Their goal is to get financially FAT at our expense.

I Highly and STRONGLY recommend Dr. Hyman's work to change you life. There is no quick fix on the market. Each of us must take back our lives on our own terms. It starts by becoming educated.

Take care each and everyone of you.

Customer Review: Not sure yet if it works
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm not yet sure if I like Alli. It took 3 days for the first effects to show up, which resulted in a quick change of clothes. So my advice is to follow the rules and switch to a low-fat diet for 3 days before you start taking it. Then I lost about 1.5 lbs in 10 days. Not great, but not bad either. Then the confusing part... in the last couple of days, with no diet changes, I went back up to my original weight. Water weight? I don't know yet.

Now for some facts. You'll be shocked at how much fat you've been consuming, because you'll see an oil slick in the toilet. The oil is orange and smelly, and it sticks to the toilet bowl. (I have to clean mine 3 times a day.) Alli works in two ways. First, you aren't absorbing as many calories through fat. Second, you have bowel movements up to 5 times a day. (All that oil that you aren't absorbing lubes the digestive tract.)

The Mayo clinic says that Orlistat produces an average weight loss of 6 lbs per year. Because Alli is a weaker version of Orlistat, they predict a weight loss of 3 lbs per year. That's not a lot of weight for the money you'll spend on Alli.

Want the same effect for less? Use jam on your toast instead of butter. Switch to fat-free sour cream, salad dressings, and cheese. Have one piece of bacon, not two. Eat chicken, not beef. Scramble your eggs, don't fry them. Eat veggie pizza, not pepperoni.

Bottom line... I'm going to keep taking Alli until my current supply runs out and then evaluate if it was worth the money.

Customer Review: It works if you do the work as well
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree with the reviews that say this isn't a magic pill. But it sure does help. I've been on alli for 6 weeks now and have lost 11 pounds. And I'm not that much of an exerciser.

The first 4 weeks, I lost 10 pounds which I never would have done on WW or other diets. The thing is that I hate to follow diets. So I basically just made sure the fat contents were low on meals I ate + did my best not to eat empty carbs like pretzels, large helping of pasta, rice.

The next 2 weeks I still watched my portions but got a little lazy from time to time on the fat contents. (Not asking for dressing on the side, made a chicken pie with puff pastry, had a Sunday roast lamb with gravy) I still lost 1 pound but felt those nasty side effects! No where near as grim as some have reported but that yucky orange-y stuff is real! A bit of a rude awakening reminder about what you're eating.

All in all I think it works. But only if you watch what you eat as well. My weight loss sounds a bit slower than some but I'm happy with it considering I'm working consciously but not all that hard at it. The starter kit is handy with all the literature and the blue shuttle thing is great to load up and throw in your purse so you always have a pill on hand. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it doesn't do the work for you! lol

Customer Review: If you follow the directions, it works!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, I know all about the "nasty" effects. I tried this product back when it was Xenical and was twice the mgs. Lets just say the side effects back then were *explosive* but the weight loss was amazing. I stopped using it because I switched jobs and could no longer be close to a restroom at all times if needed.

I have now begun using alli and I have to tell you, even though the dosage has dropped to 60mg--it still does its job. It is in no way magical-you still need to exercise. I don't do a gut busting work out but I do take brisk walks for at least 30 minutes at night. 12 lbs lost the 1st 2 weeks.

Results are I'm sure based on the individual but if you follow the directions and not assume you can still shove pizza and other greasy foods into your body without a disaster looming - this is not for you.
It takes awhile to realize the schedule that your body is on to eliminate the waste from this product. I used a calendar and wrote down times I ate, times I had to, you know...and then kept myself on basically the same eating schedule. This resulted in basically the same time when I had to, you know....

The "you know" I think is the greatest fear that people have about alli.
You just need to commit to the directions, keep a log of eating, etc and you should be okay in my opinion.

Customer Review: Enhances your success, doesn't create it
Summary: 5 Stars

I rated this item at 5 stars because it does exactly what it is advertised to do. I made the decision to work at losing weight. I had been on the weight watchers program, and had started spending some time on an eliptical trainer. I was having some success at this. When I introduced Alli to the mix, results did indeed improve! Instead of losing 2-5 pounds a month, I began losing 4-8. I've lost 40 pounds so far, and I'm going to stay the course. The few times I suffered the undesirable effects explained in other reviews and in the warnings from the product, it was because I ate too much fat at one time. It just helped to imprint in my mind what was going into my body, and thank goodness it didn't stay there. Used correctly, this product works. If you intend to eat mainly fried foods and foods rich in fat, then I would steer clear of this product. It is designed to keep your body from processing the fat, preventing it from being stored as fat in you. So, as a result, it is expelled in your stool. Imagine all the cooking oil that is absorbed when potatoes are fried in it. Now imagine that much cooking oil moving through your body by itself, and what that might cause in the end. Once you decide to lose weight and eat healthier, then I would highly recommend this product to enhance your efforts.
