Customer Reviews of Alli Weight Loss Aid Starter Pack - FDA Approved Orlistat (60mg) Capsules - Available in a 60 or 90 Pack!Customer Review: Yes, it works, but the side effects are real if you continue to eat a certain way... Summary: 5 StarsI said that I would review Alli after I had taken it for at least a month and a month passed officially two days ago. I have been overweight most of my adult life and had gained back all of the weight I had lost immediately after my son was born in November 2007. I weighed 178 when I started losing weight again in January 2009. I had managed to lose some weight with the South Beach Diet, but long term and sustainable weight loss has pretty much come to a halt by the end of 2008. I did SBD Phase 1 for two weeks and lost about four pounds, not quite as much as I had hoped. My husband suggested I try a supplement of some type. I have tried several supplements over the years (SlimQuick, Xenadrine, Hydroxycut, etc.), but none of them had really worked. I really didn't want to try Alli because I was afraid of the side effects, but I have reached my limit with being overweight and was ready for a true change. I'm glad I chose Alli.
Yes, the side effects I feared are real. I almost stopped taking it during the first 10-14 days because I was so tired of the effects. I would have uncomfortable and smelly gas with the oily discharge that the literature talks about. I had a couple of moments out and about where I needed to run to the restroom VERY QUICKLY so that I could take care of the problem. This was very difficult considering I have a toddler who really doesn't like restrooms (b/c they're loud). I started wearing a pantiliner in the backside area of my underwear so that it would hopefully catch anything that I could not avoid. After a couple of weeks, though, the side effects diminished immensely and I began to feel more comfortable.
I still have side effects when I eat fatty meals. On a trip, I ate some McDonalds (which I haven't had in months) and regretted it about 24 hours later. The same thing happened with both pizza and tapas, etc. If you eat as they suggest (lower calorie, low-fat), the side effects will be nonexistent or minimal. If you continue to eat fast food and other high-fat foods consistently, then you will have the side effects. The moral of the story here is, follow the guidelines and you should have few problems with Alli.
Along with the Alli capsules, the starter pack comes with access to MyAlliPlan.com, which has support materials for Alli users. It tracks your progress through weekly weigh-ins and more, has tons of great recipes (really!) available, and more for you if you want to use it. I like the recipes; I've made several and none of them have been bad yet.
For me, so far, Alli and the South Beach Diet together have been winners. I get to eat great food, usually really veggie-heavy, and feel great. I am in my size 12 jeans already and am looking forward to being able to fit into clothing I wore before I got pregnant with son almost two years ago. I highly recommend South Beach to anyone taking Alli; their cookbooks have some great recipes that satisfy that need for savory and sweet foods. Since most of the recipes are low fat anyway, it fits right in with the Alli plan.
If you're having issues with cravings (like chocolate, which is my weakness), I recommend Paul McKenna's book I Can Make You Thin. His self-hypnosis program has helped me curb most of my cravings and I have been able to get some new perspectives on food in my life. I haven't listened to the CD that comes with the book, but the book was a fast read and definitely helpful.
Alli, South Beach, and working out 3-5 days a week have helped me lose about 12 pounds so far. I hope that you will have the same sort of success.
Customer Review: did not work Summary: 1 Stars2 years ago before I had my kids I weighted 180 at 5'8 which was only about 5 lbs. overweighted, two years later after having a girl and 14 months later having a boy I weighted 276 lbs. which is 101 lbs overweighted. On Feb. 10th I started dieting and exercising and by the 17th I had lost 5 lbs. I figure that if I tokk Alli I would loose more weight so I purchased it. The first day with Alli I had cramps, the 2nd day I had soft stool, and after that I had nothing. I figured that it was because I was barely intaking any fat, but yesterday I did not resist and I had foods high in fat. I waited to have a treatment effect and nothing happened, then today I weighted myself and I had gained 4 lbs. w/diet, exercise, and Alli. For my aunt it worked fine, I guess my body rejected it.
Customer Review: Really Works! Summary: 5 StarsTen pounds lost in 6 weeks. Just what I needed to help me get started on my weight-loss plan. There will be treatment effects if you go over the number of fat grams recommended. Good incentive for behaving!
Customer Review: My Alli experience Summary: 4 StarsI just finished the 90 pill starter kit and I couldn't wait to give my feedback. It has truly been an experience. I will try to give as much detail as possible so that first time buyers can get a real feel of how it worked for me. For some background information I am a 28 year old female, 5' 7" and was weighing 154lbs when I started taking Alli one month ago. I put on 25lbs in the last two years plus an additional 15 lbs three years before that, so I really wanted to get it off as my clothes could no longer fit. I have tried many diets over the years, the most successful prior to this being herbal life a couple of years ago where I lost 15lbs in a month. Most recently I tried a fruit and juice diet last year and after starving for two weeks I only lost 6 pounds then ate it all back on.
Anyway on to my Alli experience, I started taking the pill one month ago and decided to go with a cereal for breakfast, meat and vegetable for lunch and dinner diet, it worked well but I felt it wasn't going fast enough. So after a week and a half, I cut out my snacking all together and continued the Alli with the Special K diet, which is Special K for breakfast, meat and vegetable for lunch and Special K for dinner. I never felt hungry for a second and my final tally after a month is 14lbs.
That's the good part; the not so nice part is the treatment effects and how much work I had to do. At many points I felt like I did most of the work where this diet is concerned with just a little help from Alli but when I look at it clinically I have tried doing this exact same thing on my own before and it had not worked as well. So I would say I got an additional 40% help from Alli. It really does help with the discipline. Now on to the disgusting part. I took the pill for about 4 to 5 days without any treatment effects. Then on or about the 5th morning I passed gas, low and behold my pearly white undies were orange, oil stained and man did it smell horrible. From there on I had to wear liners to work for the next two weeks as I found it very difficult to control the varying movements in my stomach and many times it resulted in the anal leakage which I read about. After the first two and a half weeks the treatment effects drastically reduced even though I had no major change in diet.
With all that said I would definitely recommend Alli if you are serious about major and attainable weight loss. If you do decided to try it, please fight the temptation to pass gas unless you are already in the bathroom. Many people may wonder why I would endure this just to loose weight but 14lbs pounds does make a huge difference. I have been able to go into my closet and wear clothes I haven't gone near to in years and I feel great, physically and emotionally.
Update
I took Alli for an additional two weeks and all together I have now lost 20lbs. So now after two and a half months of taking Alli, I have still kept of the weight and I have been basically managing my weight with portion control. Very satisfied with the results.
Customer Review: you can't eat fatty food and expect to lose weight Summary: 5 Starsto those with negative reviews....there is a reason why you are going to bathroom 10 times a day, wetting your undee and flood your toilet with fat drops. Why are you even taking this pill? Are you even trying to lose weight? You can't go eat 3 Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese with this pill and want some magical effects to take place. Cut your fatty foods, and exercise regularly.
That's what I have been doing, and I am seeing some results. It's been only a week but my pants are loose. Don't blame the pills for your lack of motivation.
