Customer Review: Great! Design makes itharder to spill when mixing
Summary: 5 Stars

WHY I USE IT: I discovered the benefits of using a neti pot several years ago. First, the director of a play I was in recommended it for me, but I thought it sounded weird! A couple years later, I had a friend that used hers once per day and, after years of suffering with "allergies," sinus infections, and "colds," I was desperate to try something other than medicine, which never worked and made me feel icky. I tried it and have been cured ever since. Every once in awhile I stop using it because I get lazy and cocky (I should use it AT LEAST once every two weeks, preferably once per week) and then I get a sinus infection again, reminding me how awful it is! It feel great to use it, like a fresh feeling, but sometimes I forget, especially before I go to sleep.

WHY I LIKE THIS ONE: I have used this and the Himalayan one and have known friends with multiple designs of neti pots. I don't spill any water out of the top with this one. Also, the handle is comfortable to handle when I use, clean, and store it. The ceramic material is durable. This design is easily approachable for the new user.

HOW TO USE IT (you should really follow the instructions provided with the neti pot): To use a neti pot, you need to fill it with water and salt. The amount of salt will differ with neti pots, but is usually around 1/4 tsp. of non-iodized granulated salt (I never measure anymore). Lean over a sink and tilt your head to one side (not like you are looking down, but as though you are stretching your neck on one side) and insert the spout into the nostril closest to the ceiling (if you tilt your left side to your left shoulder, hold the pot in your right hand and insert into right nostril). Wait until all of the water empties from the other nostril, gently blow your nose, and repeat on other side.

MY METHOD (this was passed on to me from a friend and I was slow to catch on, but now this is the way I mix it): I use an electric kettle to heat purified water. I clean the neti pot very well both before and after use with hot water (if you use a dishwasher, I would rinse it off first anyway because I don't believe the harsh, chlorinated soap is good for you). I add the salt to the pot and pour about 1 inch of HOT water into the pot, stirring with a very small utensil (like a measuring spoon). This melts the salt really well! Then, I fill it with cool water to bring it to room temperature. If the water is too cold or too hot, it will feel uncomfortable; I first test it with my finger, then if it seems okay I will pour a little onto the tip of my nose. If it feels right there, it is.

If I am in a hurry, I will use half the pot for each side; if not, I use the whole pot for one side, blow, then refill in the same manner. NOTE: I have found that the water goes through MUCH better if I always start with a particular side, then do the other (it won't go through if I start with the other first!). If one side is stuck, give it a try anyway, and then you can blow your nose gently. Then see if it will go through the other side, then later redo the first side.

Customer Review: No more nose bleeds in morning!
Summary: 5 Stars

For the past few months now I have had nose bleeds in the morning upon waking up. I do not know why this has occurred, but I was not too overly worried about it seeing as my boyfriend gets nose bleeds in the morning as well and has for years now. He has never talked to a doctor about it. His assumption is that it has to do with the cold and dry air at night. I researched this theory on my own and found that this could indeed be the case, but I can't be 100% sure since there are numerous reasons for nose bleeds in morning.

Anyway, I got tired of my nose bleeds so I tried using the neti pot just to see if it would help at all. I use it when I'm in the shower because using it in the sink can be pretty messy. The shower also helps my nose because after the neti pot cleans out the mucous, the steam then helps my sinuses as well. It does sting a little bit in my right nostril (the nostril that normally bleeds in morning) whenever I use it, but they say this is normal when using the neti pot and that it is nothing to be concerned of. In fact, I'd say the saline solution is helping to heal whatever problem my right nostril is having every morning. After all, they say salt heals wounds so it feels to me as if it is healing whatever the problem is. I've been using the neti pot for about a week now. On the days where I skip it, I get a tiny bit of blood in the morning, but not nearly as much as I used to get. On the days where I use it, there is no blood the next morning. So as long as I use it every single day I should be fine and can say bye bye to nose bleeds!

Lastly, it does definitely help you to breathe easier if you have a stuffy nose. With it being winter now I get colds every so often, but I'm glad to have my neti pot because it helps clear out all that disgusting mucous.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this product to anyone who suffers from sinus infections, colds, allergies, etc. You'll be glad you did.

UPDATE: I have had this product for over a month now. I was using it once a day, every day for awhile but stopped using it just to see what would happen. So far it has been about 2 weeks of not using it at all and there are absolutely no nose bleeds whatsoever! The saline solution must have healed my problem the all natural way. I am very happy. What an excellent produt! No doctor visit was required, just saline solution in my nose to stop the bleeding every morning.

Customer Review: Great product! Really helps!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this neti pot for over a year now and have to say that it really works great. My breathing is easier through my nose and my sinuses feel much more clear throughout the day. I don't feel bogged down by my allergies nearly as much. This particular neti pot is well-constructed and easy to use. I've had other neti pots that had odd angles or were made of cheap materials and were uncomfortable to use, but this one is glass and seems to have a great angle to it. Of course, being glass, it's easily broken, so that is one thing to consider.

For the new Neti Pot users, a couple of things to take note of:

The mixture: Using warm water with a 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized salt is best. Obviously, cold water does not feel good and using table salt or too little/too much salt creates a horrible sensation. One time, I forgot to add salt and I sneezed all day long and my sinuses were extremely irritated. A grocery store near me sells cheap jars of salt specially for neti pots. I've also seen special oils you can add, but haven't tried them (I've also read about loss of your sense of smell from some oils, so be sure to do your research on them before using!).

Actual use: Basically, the neti pot works by gently pouring a stream of water through your sinuses, so you tilt your head and pour through one nostril so the stream comes out the other. The one thing I make sure to do after each use is to blow my nose to get the excess water out and then I have a bottle of rubbing alcohol that I dab a q-tip in and run over the inside of my ear. I've found that the water from the neti pot often gets into my ear and I've even had it cause some irritation over time. Ever since I have been trying to dry the excess water up with the rubbing alcohol, there have been no problems. Of course, not everyone will have this issue. Also, if you are too clogged up, the water from the neti pot isn't going to go anywhere. It'd probably be best to take some medication to try to loosen the clog and then use the neti pot.

Overall, the neti pot is a wonderful product for anyone who has trouble with allergies or their sinuses. It's not something you use as a quick fix for colds or sinus issues. Like I said before, it doesn't do anything if you are too clogged. It's great for those with constant allergies and mild congestion though. Used daily over a long period of time, it seems to have really helped me out.

Customer Review: works great for me
Summary: 5 Stars

I wrote the review shown below (again please note that I am not a medical doctor, and I recommend seeing one if you have sinus complaints) quite a while ago for the original Neti pot, and I recently purchased this "improved design" model. I can't tell any difference, other than in the way it looks, from the original Neti pot, so while I can't say I'd agree that it's been improved, I do still like to use it. I've been using it lately when I feel allergies coming on, and I feel like it helps more than medications I've tried. Anyway, I believe that what I said about the original Neti pot should be relevant to the newer model as well, so here it is:

Be advised that I am not a medical doctor, despite the fact that my username begins with doc. I first tried using a Neti pot several years ago when I was suffering from really bad sinus congestion. The best prescripton decongestants were not helping me much, if any, over the course of several weeks but I got refills anyway and kept on suffering. A friend told me her mom had used a Neti pot for clearing her sinuses, and she said it worked better than anything else she had tried. So I got myself one, and have been using it ever since. I don't use it every day, but only when I feel like allergies are starting to bother me (some use it on a more regular basis than me, but since I don't know firsthand how helpful that is, I'll leave it to other reviewers to discuss). There is a decent description of how it is used in the product info above, so I won't go into that. It a little bit uncomfortable (or just plain feels weird at first), like when you get water up your nose while swimming, but the relief it gives has been well worth it in my opinion. Also the thought of warm saline going into one nostril and coming out the other can seem pretty gross to many people, but it's not too difficult to get used to. Overall I've found the process to be quick and easy, and it has relieved my symptoms very well. The bottom line is that it has helped me clear nasal congestion at times when nothing else seemed to be helping much, and I have been extremely impressed with the relief I have experienced after using it. Of course people still need to see their doctor for bad congestion and allergies, and if you are using a Neti pot I would let your doctor know that too (maybe bring the box to show them what you're talking about).

Customer Review: Great relief from snoring and possibly sleep apnea!
Summary: 5 Stars

First let me say that I am no Birkenstock wearing, new-age "medicine", clove smoking hippy. Nor do I subscribe to all of the negative vs. positive energy stuff.

With that said, this Neti Pot is amazing. My wife bought it and I was skeptical but tried it just to see what it felt like. I was expecting something akin to water boarding but it was nothing close. It did take a few attempts to get the salt to water ratio right for me. The recommended amount caused a little bit of a burning sensation like getting water up your nose while swimming in a pool. The results however have been spectacular!

Background:
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I use a dental appliance to help keep my airway open at night so I get a better night sleep and to reduce my snoring to a tolerable level for my wife. Without the dental appliance she is often forced to sleep in another room. My snoring is so loud it can be heard even when my bedroom door is closed. I have always had problems breathing through my nose with one of my nostrils usually blocked. I also take prescription sleep medication every night and frequently wake during the night but usually I am able to fall right back asleep.

Results:
On the first night of use my wife noticed that my snoring had completely stopped. (I also use a dental appliance). The second night had the same dramatic results. She had to feel around in the bed to make sure I was there. The third night I tried sleeping without the dental appliance but still used the Neti. I snored but not enough to disturb her, not continuously, and not enough to wake myself up throughout the night. I did not use my sleep medication on day two or three and I have slept the same amount of time or one hour longer each night. I do not notice waking during the night at all as I normally did pre-Neti.

Recommendation:
If you have problems sleeping due to breathing problems I would highly recommend giving this a try.
