Customer Reviews of Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti PotCustomer Review: It worked faster than antibiotics for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I used to get 6-8 knock-me-out for 4 or 5 days sinus infections per year until I found this little gem. I was away on vacation (away from my doctor) when the usual symptoms started. I ran to the near-by health food store and begged for help. They suggested that I try the Neti pot, and WOW! I used it 4 times the next day, trying to stop the beginnings of another raging sinus infection. It definitely hurt a bit at first because my sinuses were so inflamed, but it took away my sinus infection faster than any antibiotics - and believe me I have been on all of the powerful ones!
Some people can snort salt water, but not me: My nervous system says, "Knock it off, idiot! You're drowning!" But with the Neti I can breathe through my mouth when I use it(which is now a morning ritual when I get up). AND FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I CAN REMEMBER, I HAVE NOT HAD A SINUS INFECTION FOR OVER A YEAR!!!! And I have not been sick once! And I saved a dozen co-pays for care and meds! And I am off allergy meds for 10 months of the year when I used to be on them year-round!
Why didn't anyone tell me about this before? Perhaps the dozen or so physicians I've seen in the last three decades for this condition had stock in the pharmaceutical companies.(Just kidding.)More likely they didn't know about it.
I take one on vacation, have an extra in case I break my regular one, sent one to my mother and to my best friend, and have recommended them to everyone I know who has sinus problems.
Note: Be careful not to make the water much warmer than room-temperature. Add just enough salt to make it into a tear-like saline solution. Too little or too much salt, and too cold or hot water will hurt.
Customer Review: Keep your nose clean- a must for modern hygiene Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product last spring because I was desparate; my allergy symptoms had become unbearable. I had tried over the counter medication with little success and prescription medication with little success and scary side effects. The first use was extremely unpleasant, reminiscent of various childhood misadventures in lakes and pools. Afterwards, I could breathe again and within a day or so, my allergy symptoms faded. That was well worth a few minutes of discomfort. I have used it almost every day for the past nine months and I can honestly say that it was the best $14 dollars I ever spent.
My advice to new neti pot users:
1). Read and follow the directions very carefully.
2). Have a handkerchief or an old towel or a soft paper towel ready. In my experience, a tissue will be too flimsy.
3). Make sure the water is lukewarm. If it is too hot or too cold, you will be uncomfortable.
4). Use only fine sea salt with NO IODINE.
5). Make sure the salt is completely dissolved. Clumps of salt in your nose are not good.
6). If you are so congested that the water will not flow through, try taking a warm shower or bath to loosen it and then try the neti pot again.
I have recommended neti pots to several friends and coworkers. Some thought they sounded gross and silly, but the ones who actually tried a neti pot have thanked me again and again. If you live or work in an area with high levels of pollen, mold, dust or pollution, do your nose a great favor and try a neti pot. I would not be surprised if at some point they become as common in bathrooms as toothbrushes or razors.
Customer Review: A little bizzare but strangely recommended Summary: 5 Stars
I finished Dr. Oz's book, You Staying Young, and felt that it was very informative and very funny in his irreverent writing style and illustrations. So when he described the Neti Pot, it made sense but seemed inspired by a Dave Letterman guest demonstration in their 5 minutes of embarrassing fame; pouring water in one nostril and having it flush through to the other. My only thought was of getting chlorinated pool water lodged in my sinuses and feeling like my head was at high tide all day. But, wanting to relieve some occasional allergy symptoms and also getting some grist for quirky dinner conversation I sent for this product. Locking the bathroom door securely lest anyone see me tipping a gravy boat into my nose and keeping the cell phone close should dialing 911 become necessary, I lifted the device with apprehension. The angle of attack is crucial or you'll find the draining water running down your face, chin and neck, like drinking a coffee before the dentist's anesthesia wears off. But once the fine adjustments are made the irrigation is both simple and painless. I haven't noticed any therapeutic benefits yet and I still feel foolish doing it even though my beta fish is the only observer. But it does make logical sense since here is where nasty air borne micro-things get intercepted and lodged and warm salted water should both clean and soothe irritation. So I recommend allergy sufferers to give it a try. Just don't forget yourself while passing the gravy boat next Thanksgiving dinner and suffocating on a meat giblet.
Customer Review: Great way to clear your nasal passage Summary: 5 Stars
I will try to make this review short so as to save you time. This product is exactly as it looks in the picture and as described. Its a ceramic pot that one uses to clear his/her nasal passages.
In order to get the best experience, make sure the salt to water ratio is correct. Add enough salt so that it is all fully disolved. Having not enough salt will feel just as bad as too much salt. I do this by adding too much salt, and then adding water and stirring with my finger until all the excess salt is dissolved (I keep adding water until its all dissolved).
A friend of mine recommended I use room temperature water, but I've found I actually like cold water better.
Pros: Works as expected, what you see is what you get.
Cons:
1) I keep it in my backpack because half the time I sleep at home and the other half I sleep at my girlfriends place. Its ceramic, so I am usually worried that having it in my backpack will cause it to hit something hard and break. A plastic one would relieve my concerns here, but I have no experience as to the quality of the plastic one. Hence, I am buying another one to keep at my girlfriends, so I can leave mine at home.
2) The cup is deep, so it can be hard to get your index finger all the way to the bottom. You may have to stir with your middle finger, which can be a bit awkward.
Thats it! Overall, this is a very simple, straightforward item. What you see on the box is what you get.
Customer Review: Best Neti Pot on the market Summary: 5 Stars
If you have allergies or want to avoid catching other people's cold or flu, then this neti pot is the best one on the market because of its shape and material its made of. The shape fits perfectly over your nostril so that you can flush your nose and sinuses. It's easy to hand wash after every use. This is the one I think that was demonstrated on Oprah by Dr. Oz. At least it looks just like it. Ever since I started using this neti pot, I have not caught any colds or flu despite being around sickly people. I have given several of these to friends and family and they are now as devoted to the neti pot as I am.
Most people give up too easily or don't know how to properly use the neti pot. Check out videos on youtube to see how to use one properly. You need to tilt your head to the side and use warm water with a pinch of salt. Also, when you first start your sinuses may be blocked up. Don't give up. Many times during the year, my sinuses are blocked. I use it every night no matter what. Even though it may not drain on one side, you will find that 10 minutes after using the neti pot, that your sinuses will clear up. Germs generally invade when your nasal passages become dried out. So doing this once a day, helps keep your sinuses moist so they can trap the germs. Lastly, germs actually take hours to penetrate our natural defenses. This is why flushing your sinuses once a day helps keep you healthy all year round.
