Customer Reviews of Andis 01557 Improved Master Professional Clipper

Customer Review: Was excited to receive, but very disappointed after first use
Summary: 2 Stars

I have been looking for a good pair of clippers to do fades. I have been doing fades on my own head for the past 12 years and always used the cheopo wahls ones that you can buy at target, never had a problem with them. I decided I wanted to get a professional type clipper so I got these. I just used them an hour ago for the first time and here is what I have experienced, and this is MY PERSONAL OPINION so you can take it how you want to:

1.) First, my biggest issue: The whole unit gets VERY VERY HOT, I mean to the point I cannot hold it anymore. And only after about 45 minutes do you start to notice that the heat is getting bad, the blades themselves took longer to get very very hot but I literally used a glove to finish my haircut today because I could not hold it. The unit is metal.
2.) Its noisy but all clippers are noisy, this is not a problem for me but still an observation. Not a big deal
3.) The clippers are very very difficult to keep a good grip on. The casing is metal with no rubber grips or any other material to hold it easier. Once you put a little oil on the blades, use the clippers for a while, eventually after switching the guides you will get some oil on your hands and once that oil gets onto the surface of the case, it feels like a bar of soap. Not very good when you are trying to cut hair, one slip and you have a bald spot where it shouldnt be.
4.) These things are annoyingly heavy. It is powerful so it has a heavy motor and I didnt think the weight would be a problem. But seriously, after using for a few minutes my arm was getting very tired, much quicker than when I used the cheap ones.

Overall, the actual cutting of the clippers is just average, no different than my cheaper clippers that I bought for $20. I am going to return these, not sure what I will get yet. Maybe a different pair of andis but I will have to look at the reviews to see if any of these problems mentioned will also come with other andis clippers.

Customer Review: The Best Professional Fading Clippers
Summary: 5 Stars

The Andis improved Masters are by far one of if not the best fading clippers on the market. There is not a barber on YouTube that does not own at least 1 Andis Masters clipper. I have 3 boys and I have cut there hair back to back and that takes about 90 minutes and the clippers were not hot. They got warm, but no way too hot to hold. I fade my hair from 000 to 1' and line it up (andis t-outliner)in 30 minutes and I am not a pro. I have only been cutting hair for my family for 8 months.

These clippers are known to be relatively quiet compared to other clippers in the same category of magnetic driven motor clippers. More importantly if you follow the instructions that come in the box Andis teaches you how to adjust you clippers to quiet them and get the most power from them. I followed those directions and they run quiet and strong.

The metal housing looks great! It add a little weight but I have only found the weightiness of these clippers to be one of its attractive features and because it has brushed metal it creates a natural grip that is really nice. They are the real deal! Everything on these clippers are made to last and they are made in the US! Again, I have cut all 3 of my boys hair and mine back to back and i did not fatigue at all and I am no gym goer.

Overall these clipper cut brilliantly and there are so many videos on youtube that will teach you how to fine tune these clippers. I love how smooth they cut. They leave you hair feeling as though they were cut by a professional with a scissor over comb cut. Its a velvety smooth finish. These clippers ROCK!

Customer Review: Reliable & great features
Summary: 4 Stars

I had been looking for some clippers to use on myself as well as my regular customers so I have been checking out the reviews of various clippers. So I went with the Fademasters, the Phatmasters, and the Masters. The Masters are by far my favorite tool of the 3 to the point that I did my research and found out that all of the tools had the same motor but they just changed the casing and blade to have multiple products. I did not like the blade on the Phatmaster so i swapped it for the Master blade and I had myself 2 pairs of masters. I like how you can hear the actual hair cut as opposed to seeing it cut so you can attack the cut using multiple senses giving you an edge in fades and determining what length you would like to take the hair down to. However, I also use Oster products as well and they are superiorly powerful in juxtaposition of the Andis products. Your Andis produts will get hot and overheat if you're not efficient with your cutting techniques and use them continuously for long periods of time. So I combat this by using multiple tools for different stages of the cut. I rarely have to deal with the problem of not having enough time before the clippers get hot. The Oster Fast feeds are almost the same product as the Andis masters, except for the superior pivot motor, yielding more volts and more power for cutting through wet and thick hair. So although the Masters are my favorite tool for their features, I can't fully depend on them on their own, but they're definitely a great asset for every barber to have. And that's from a barber himself.

Customer Review: Hands down the best all-around clipper on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

If there is ONE clipper that a professional barber must have, especially if it's a stand alone clipper, it is the Andis Improved Master clipper. It's pretty much everything you could ask for in a clipper: Durable, powerful, precise, you name it! If I had to name a few downsides to this clipper, it would have to be the weight (which I personally don't mind), the heat generated from constant use (the body is aluminum; personally, I'd rather stomach the heat if it means I have a strong housing that won't break if dropped), and price (don't get me wrong. It's worth every penny, but there are better bangs for the buck out there for most people). I'd have to say that this clipper is best suited for professionals, or those wishing to become professionals, simply because consumers won't use it to even a fraction of it's potential. Consumers won't cut the amount of heads or utilize it in ways this clipper was built for, and thus likely won't find much of a difference between this clipper and a "lesser" professional model. There are lighter, less bulky, more convenient clippers that are better suited for people at home who cut their own hair or perhaps cut their children or even a few friends (wahl 5-star magic clip and andis speedmaster 2 come to mind). Of course, if you'd rather spend double the money than you really need to, be my guest. For the professional, this is practically a must-have. but of course, if you are a professional or are pursuing the endeavor of barbering, you probably know that. I highly recommend this clipper.

Customer Review: Much better than Oster 76!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Wahl clipper was dead in 1 year, so, I decided to buy more expensive clipper from amazon. I bought "Oster 76" and was very disappointed. I returned that clipper and bought "Andis 01557". this clipper works in a completely different and better way:
1. once you turn it on, cutting edges are moving so quickly that you can't see them any more, you just feel a strong vibration from it - Oster 76 isn't so strong and so fast at all.
2. unlike Oster 76, 000 mode of Andis 01557 cuts very close to skin.
3. you can quickly adjust Andis 01557 from 000 to 1, so, no need to buy N1 blade.
4. some reviewers are complaining that Andis 01557 gets hot quickly - I do not agree with them on this issue. even though Oster 76 has cooling vent (fen) inside, which pushes hot air from two big holes, that clipper gets hotter much more quickly.
5. yes, Andis 01557 is just as heavy as Oster 76, but they have different shape and size - Andis 01557 is smaller and fits and holds in your hand better - unlike Oster 76, it doesn't feel like someone is hitting you head with big brick!
6. Andis 01557 makes loud sound only once, when it starts working - after this it is very silent - much less noisy than Oster 76.
7. finally, I like elegant, monolithic, and sturdy metallic corpus of Andis 01557 more than tube-like corpus of Oster 76 with holes. also, I don't like where Oster 76 has on-off switch - it may be broken, if you drop the clipper and you need to use both your hands to move that switch.
