Customer Review: The answer is YES!
Summary: 5 Stars

UPDATE 8/9: After using this clipper for a while now, I'm very happy with it (despite the price dropping). It took a few times but now I can do both dogs very quickly in one sitting. I don't have a professional grooming table so I do this in the laundry room with the dog on top of the washer.

I would highly recommend using a disposable wee pad under them instead of a towel... the cut hairs are very tough to wash out (they seem to just weave themselves into cloth!)

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

These were the questions I had before buying this clipper:
*Does it really work that much better than human clippers? YES
*Is it quiet enough that it won't freak out my dogs? YES
*Will I be able to handle it well even though I have no professional grooming experience? YES
*Is it worth the price tag? YES

With two small dogs, I found that it managed to cut through their differing types of fur perfectly.

My Papillon mix has a double coat and it sliced through without any problems!

And the number #1 guard was the perfect length to use on my Maltese for that "puppy" cut.

I have no prior grooming experience so I just watched a bunch of online videos. This clipper seemed to work easily and fit into my hand just fine. It has a ceramic blade and it didn't feel like it got hot for a while (I managed to groom both dogs in one sitting). But since I was using a guard, it wasn't much of an issue.

This also has a quiet motor so it didn't freak the dogs out. And unlike the inexpensive human clippers, it doesn't make an abrupt noise when you first turn it on.

I received the item exactly as pictured: a purple cutter with 4 guards, small tube of oil and a black case everything fits into.

For my two small dogs, I don't feel like I need to buy other blades as the one that comes with it, along with the guards, seem to fit all of my needs right now. Again, I say this with inexperience...just relying on my satisfaction with the end result.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this clipper!

Customer Review: Heats up but easily gets the job done
Summary: 4 Stars

The clippers heat up fast (about 10 minutes) which is a definite negative but the clippers certainly DO get the job done. I would recommend what another reviewer suggested: get a second ceramic blade to allow the first to cool down. I had to stop after about 15-20 minutes to let the blade cool so that it wasn't too hot to the touch. The clippers are a major step up from the cheap made-for-people-hair clippers that you can get from Target or Walmart for about $30 (which is what I was using before & which was WAY too hot and did not cut as well after each subsequent use & took longer to get the cut done).

With the Andis clippers, I was able to get a clean, relatively quick cut for my mini-schnauzer with which I was very pleased. (My husband thought I took him to get shaved at the groomers.) It was a lot easier than I expected and much easier than I have experienced with other clippers. I pretty much shave him all over with a #1 attachment. I had no problems with the attachment staying on. Also, my dog HATES getting his fur clipped but was pretty receptive to this device as it was not overly hot or overly loud. He did not squirm as he usually does and didn't try to run off. He was calm--a MAJOR perk. I guess he doesn't find this Andis clippers intimidating.

My miniature schnauzer whose fast growing fur & explorer tendencies frequently (& I mean almost daily) bring him back into the house with all sorts of dirt, twigs, and whatnots caught in his fur. Hence, if he's not groomed often (at LEAST once a month), the house gets covered in evidence of the little guy's explorations. I've used the clippers twice now and am very pleased with it. I ordered a second ceramic blade to alternate between hot blades. I also ordered extra Andis blade oil for about $5, also from Amazon.

Hopefully, this product keeps well and lasts longer.

Customer Review: Good clippers
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got these yesterday and started on my dog right away. There are 4 clipper guard attachments included, 3/8", 1/2", 1/4" and 1/8", and of course you can use the clippers with no guard. There is also a small vial of oil for the clippers. The case seems a bit flimsy, but should work fine. The case is black plastic with compartments for each item included. The clippers are actually purple (they look blue in the photo).

Before using these clippers, I had been using people hair clippers and the difference is like night and day. My dog is a beagle/corgi mix and she has a VERY thick undercoat and a thick mane. These clippers worked well in most areas, however, the thickest areas were still difficult to cut using the 1/2" guard. Also, the clippers got pretty hot as I used them (I used them for about an hour). I actually had to stop and let my dog have a break because they were getting hot enough to make her hot (didn't burn her or anything, but they radiate heat). We were outside (in NC in June) doing this, so that may have contributed, but they still got pretty hot.

Overall, they worked as I expected them to. In most areas, they glided smoothly through the fur, and I agree with the reviews about the sound level. They are much quieter than the other clippers I was using, although the sound was still very noticeable. It did not bother my dog, but might for more sensitive pooches. I am very happy with what I received for the price, and the service and shipping through Amazon were positive (as always!).

Customer Review: Andis Clippers for my Poodle
Summary: 5 Stars

After making the big decision to groom our standard poodle, the next decision was selecting the clippers. I had been told told "get a better clipper" but not really sure what that meant. I didn't want to spend a couple hundred and wasn't that psyched about spending $150 either - after all, what if I couldn't do the grooming task and then I really wasted a lot of money!

So, after a lot of looking (and reading reviews), I selected the Andis 21420 Pro - a great decision! Plus, the instructions included in the hard storage case was how to groom a poodle! How did they know that? ha ha. Anyway, the clippers are quiet and didn't upset our dog and the motor is strong enough to cut through his hair pretty easily. We like the "puppy cut" and I had to "mow" through some mats in his hair and the clippers performed magnificently. You just need to be patient in the thicker mats; take your time.

The blades included were easy to put on and take off and were a good selection for this style cut. I really only used 1 blade and then just the clipper head (for the face). Like most clippers, the head will get hot so do the face first. Once you have the blades attached, heat is not a factor. Given my first experience, the entire groom took me about 2 hours, and the clipper hung in there wonderfully, as did my dog. He was very comfortable through the groom and seemed to like the clippers as much as I do!

Customer Review: Not the quietest but it does the job well
Summary: 4 Stars

The Andis 21420 is the third model of dog clippers I've used in my Cairn Terrier's 15 1/2 years of life and it's superior to the others. Actually the first tool I used was a Wahl marketed for humans and that didn't last very long. I like the length of the power cord, the hard plastic storage case, the assorted clipper combs and the durability of the clipper. I do not like the loud sound it makes, especially when the comb slips out of the housing which has happened on several occasions. Even with the comb securely fastened, the motor is rather loud. Since my dog is now nearly deaf, it's not an issue, but it does get me nervous nevertheless. As with all others I've used, when used for more than a few minutes, the clipper gets hot. I simply turn it off for a few minutes and while taking a little break from the grooming, comfort the dog. It is important to not only oil the blades but to clean them out completely of little hairs that become entrapped. I use a little stiff brush and even follow up with the blow dryer. The shape of this clipper is very comfortable to hold in the hand and the weight of it is very balanced. I imagine that it would be a nice model to use for multiple grooming sessions without tiring the hand or wrist. With care, this should last for many more years and other dogs.
