I take Bystolic for high blood pressure. The pills are triangular in shape. Originally was prescribed 5 mg, but soon found out that I only needed to take 2 1/2 mg., therefore requiring me to cut my pills in half. Changing my prescription from 5 mg to 2 1/2 mg was out of the question because price is the same for either. Cutting them enables me to get more bang for my buck. I first tried cutting my pills with some razors I had in the house which quickly became a hassle. Uneven cuts, pills bouncing around, scavenging for pieces at my feet, etc. You get the idea. I read prior reviews and some warned of flimsiness, etc. I have found that the product is not flimsy at all, but could break after rough handling, just like any other product. I have now had a chance to cut about 30 pills and would like to let you know that it works like a charm. I have been heeding the advise from prior reviewers and treating it delicately which seems to work. Nice features aid in accurate cuts. See through plastic, firm grip material and razor safety. I selected this product for my husband from a large variety of similar products, and am glad that I did. Although he is the one who needs it to split his medication, I also use it to assist him, and have found it easy to use and to clean. The blade remains sharp even after many uses. The cutter is small enough to store just about anywhere, and packs well in any type of luggage or carry-on bag for travel. I would recommend this product for those who need to halve their solid tablet medication, with or without a center line groove in the pill intended for halving with the hands. The blade is protected by a sheath while the lid is open, protecting users from being cut. This unit cuts small and medium sized pills in half well, and is not designed for other types of medication. A convenient receptacle catches the pieces after cutting, and the powdery residue remaining came be easily rinsed off with water. It is fairly easy to align each pill for an accurate 1/2 split. As a registered nurse, I have used pill cutters of similar quality while working in nursing homes and hospitals.Customer Review: Handy device

I need to split my allergy pills that I take daily - find that taking half at a time maintains effectiveness but greatly diminishes side effects. But, this means I have to split a whole bunch of rather small, oblong pills. I got tired of using a kitchen knife, and thought I'd give this a shot.
Great little device. Splits pills easily, and there's a receptacle that holds the halves. I can split a 30 day supply in much, much less time that using a knife, and they are all cut evenly and cleanly.
My only complaint is that the pill holding area is covered with a non-slip pad. Sounds like a good idea, but it also makes it difficult at times to position the pill properly, especially the small ones. They stick to the covering and maneuvering them into the correct position can sometimes be frustrating.
The build quality is so-so - I don't expect this is something that will last for years and years. But, a decent value for the money, and a very handy device to have.

This product works much much better than I had expected. It has a super sharp blade which is enclosed in a sheath while it is open. Place the tablet on the device, close the lid and the sheath retracts and very neatly cuts the tablet.
It is a bit like a guillotine, and is actually fun to use!
There is a reservoir or well just below the cutting surface (it's blue in the photos, as is the cutting area) so cut tablets can fall into the well. You can cut around 12-15 tablets before emptying the cut tablets from the reservoir back into the pill bottle.
Highly recommended. I've been using mine for around 2-3 years and the hinge is beginning to get a bit sticky, so I ordered 3 more to have in reserve...it is that good and valuable!
No pill segments flying on the floor, and absolutely no chance of a cut finger.
Try it, you will not be disappointed!
