I was thinking after the first few uses it would soften up, or maybe lather the soap a little bit. No such luck. It soaks up the soap and doesnt give it back. I soaked it water for a long time to help soften up. Nada. If I had to choose between using this or a piece of sandpaper, it would be a difficult decision. While I won't exaggerate and say it would be more painful than sandpaper, I'm fairly certain the sandpaper would provide more latherability and not be that much more uncomfortable
