Customer Reviews of Axe Detailer Shower Tool, Colors May Vary (Pack of 4)Customer Review: A bar of soap works, too... Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm suspicious of the whole Axe thing. A hot shower and a dab of cologne was good enough for Frank Sinatra. You didn't hear Ian Fleming fret about exfoliating. This is a brand that built its reputation on "body spray," a dubious invention. I have never met a woman who broke up with a freshly-showered man who uses a mild deodorant on the grounds that he smelled too bland. I've never heard a woman say, "You're okay, but despite the showering and diet light in garlic, you need an all-over body spray." Now and then, I've heard women compliment a FAINT trace of a nice cologne, but every woman to whom I've spoken has said that it's very, very easy to go too far with the after-shave, and too much of a good thing is very, very bad. Riddle me this. What kind of horrendous glandular problems must you have to require an "all-over body spray"? I mean, really. If it's that bad, you don't need an all-over body spray; you need a prescription. Well, from the people who brought you the all-over body spray, comes this. I guess if you have a lot of dead skin that you want to shed, and want a manly-looking item for the job -- to impress the sort of broad-chested men at gyms who carefully scrutinize the bathing accessories of their workout buddies -- this is it. It would also work if you have incredible dirt and grime from painting, wood shop, or garage work and don't want to use solvents. But if none of these situations apply, then don't be fooled. This is no more than a synthetic loofa, tricked out for the Maxim generation. As I tried it out, I kept thinking of the various solvents that would do just as good a job, and are available at any hardware or paint-supply store. And I only need them on my hands and forearms. Then I began to wonder what you would have to do to get tough-to-clean dirt and grime in places so unorthodox that a special tool like this would be required. The mind reels. Maybe it's my lack of imagination, but I can't think of much you can do that can't be fixed with a good bar of old-fashioned soap -- with pumice granules, if necessary -- in a hot shower. I get the idea that this is aimed at younger men. Is there that much need for a loofa when you're in your twenties? If so, is there a real stigma about owning one? I have no idea. It looks cool, though, the rubberized grip is easy to manage in the shower, and it would make a good back-to-school gift for a Louisville Cardinals fan. Other than that....
Customer Review: By This Axe I Scrub! Summary: 4 Stars

Sorry about that, but I recently discovered Robert E. Howard's Kull: Exile of Atlantis, and I couldn't resist.
As readers of my Vine reviews have noted, I've long believed that men and women are similar enough that they can use each other's health and personal care items but that in order to market said products to both men and women, changes may be required. The Axe Detailer Shower Tool is a perfect example of this as it is rather obviously just another lowly Foaming Shower Pouf... with a sex change. Gone are the lovely pastels, replaced by a manly black and red. A rubber tire grip allows you to apply masculine force and direction to the problem while the red pad provides exfoliation for those men who need it. Note: care must be exercised as the pad is quite abrasive. If your choice of career or lifestyle does not produce calluses, you are advised to use it sparingly in order to avoid screaming like a little girl.
Over a month of daily use with Gillette Oil Control Face + Body Wash and Gillette Shampoo + Body Wash produced excellent results.
So why only four stars? Because there is already another product on the market that outdoes it: Salux Japanese Beauty Skin Cloth. Salux or other brand flat nylon mesh cloths are superior IMHO for the following reasons:
1. Unlike the Axe the Salux cloth can be used to scrub the back with a two-hand motion.
2. Unlike the Axe the Salux cloth works quite well with bar soap.
3. The Salux cloth is much better for cleaning nooks and crannies like between the toes.
4. A Salux cloth packs a lot smaller.
Good try, Axe, but I'm going back to my Salux.
Customer Review: This will keep you clean, but can it make you sexy? Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Of all the products I've received as a result of my membership in the Vine program, the Axe Detailer Shower Tool is the one I've anticipated receiving the most. After all, unlike the books I've read, or the Power Bars I've consumed, the Axe Detailer Shower Tool promises to heighten my appeal to the opposite sex. It says so right there on the package. Here, read along with me: "When girls check out guys, they notice every part. They don't miss a thing. Neither does the New Axe Detailer."
This little gizmo, quite attractive in its own right with its red and black design, is going to "keep every part of you ready for action." The scrub side (that's the little red part) will, and again, this is a direct quote (as the quotation marks should indicate), "dig into your extra dirty spots or tough parts (hands, elbows, feet, etc.)" The softer black mesh side is for those, ahem, "sensitive" areas which I took to mean my "thing," as my brothers and I called it back in the day (now, there's a phrase you don't hear too often), and the even more sensitive area directly behind it.
Although Axe predictably recommends using Axe Shower Gel when putting the Detailer into action, the gel didn't come with the package, so I lathered up with regular soap. I must say, it was quite a pleasure to scrub away with the Detailer, and I felt cleaner and more refreshed than I usually do when stepping out of the shower. Still, I didn't think I could recommend this product until I saw the effect I had on women now that I was available in a cleaner, more vigorously scrubbed package. Would women mistake my elbow for shining armor when it's so clean that it glistens in the sun? Will the fact that the balls of my feet are purer than ever put a spring in my step and lead to invitations to dance?
Well, no, the women did not respond, but I feel cleaner after a session with this gizmo, so I recommend it.

Customer Review: Great but kind of needless Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I can see it now. A hip man walks down the bathroom aisle and sees that Axe and other similar "sexy bathroom products" are now making a body soap that doesn't come in a bar form, but smells great. This man will pick it up and then go...what do I do with it? Of course you can use a wash cloth or your hands, but that's not what this kind of soap is meant for and you use too much.
So, said man will continue walking and see loofas in all sorts of pinks, reds, magentas, etc. Some men will grab one of these and walk out. Others will turn up their noses, put their body soap down and continue using a bar soap.
This product is for that second type of man.
You can't argue with the ingenious marketing Axe uses for their products; the hint of sex in the air is enough to make people want to purchase their product and their ads constantly enforce this axiom: if you use Axe...women will sleep with you. And so we have the "man-card-keeping" loofa that is black with a sexy red top hiding the fact that it is, underneath it all, a loofa.
It's a perfect invention and I have to say it works terrifically. The sample I've received works great for the entire body. You have the loofa-esqe side for the majority of your body and, on the flip, a rougher side to get rid of dead skin and to use on your feet, elbows and knees. Works wonderfully. Some reviewers have questioned the craftsmanship of the product but so far, after about three weeks of use, I haven't had a single issue with it.
So, hey, it works great, looks great and feels great. But is it great? For the first group of men I've mentioned, it's a needless product since it costs more than a loofa. For the second group, though, it's probably a perfect choice.
Customer Review: Excellent Scrubber and a Skin Defoliator for Women Too Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I know this is a manly sponge, but don't be surprised if your woman winds up using it too. This sponge has 2 sides. One side reminds you of a regular shower sponge, but instead of being silky, it is a little bit more aggressive. The other side, with the red center is as coarse as a scotch brite pad, although more ideally designed for the purpose, which will soften the more callous areas. This will not replace your wash rag, whereas it won't fit behind your ears. It is strictly a large surface area scrubber.
We have a continuum here, starting at soap only with your hand, which only removes the oil and salt deposits from sweat. Then you move up to a wash rag which helps to remove more of the dead skin cells sitting on the surface. The sponge, even on the gentler side is a little more aggressive than a wash rag, and will do a better job of defoliating, plus you can regulate that very easily, based on how much scrubbing you do.
I am not a proponent of acid washes, peeling the outer layer of skin off. Maybe that results in the younger looking under layers being brought to the surface, but also removes the outer layer, which is the first line of defense against the sun's harmful rays.
This sponge is a nice way of taking it a step farther than a wash rag, while still maintaining the beneficial layer of the skins protection. When I used it on my forehead and cheeks, I immediately noticed the softer more supple feel to my skin. I tried the coarse side on my heel, which has a more callous feel to it, but it also has a small ridge, and the sponge quickly removed the ridge, without irritating my heel. It works great. Overall highly recommended.
