Customer Reviews of BD Digital Thermometer

Customer Review: Totally useless
Summary: 1 Stars

The battery in my old digital thermometer went dead after three years. Not unexpected. I bought a new battery but couldn't get the new battery placed inside the case correctly. So I decided to buy a new thermometer because I was happy with my old one from Walgreens. The BD was inexpensive. Big mistake. The day I received the BD, I was feeling well, and decided to give the thermometer a test run prior to needing it in the future. The BD never worked correctly. I could leave it under my tongue for almost 5 minutes, and the thing would not beep to show that the temperature was complete. The temperature readings varied from 95.3 degrees to 98.8, all within a half hour.
Not worth the hassle and expense of sending back. Unfortunately, it is destined for a landfill much ahead of its time.

Customer Review: Very nice thermometer, Omron is better
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very good thermometer for home use. Can be safely used with younger children. I have checked the accuracy of this thermometer with two others (one alcohol & one SHARP electronic) and it was accurate to within 5% of the other two so I assume its ok.

Soon after purchasing this on Amazon, I found one made by Omron at a local pharmacy selling for equal price. The Omron, in my view, is a better product since it has all the features of this thermometer plus it has a flexible probe which can be a big advantage with children.

This thermometer has a recommendation of consumer reports also which is another big plus for it.

If I were to do it again, I'd go with Omron as I have used other products of Omron and found them a very good value for money.

Customer Review: Great thermometer, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this thermometer to use for recording basal body temperature. From what I could tell, it is identical to more expensive version marketed for this purpose. I am really impressed with the design and ease of use. The beeping that some complain about is not particularly loud and actually helpful (at 6am, it's nice to know it's placed correctly and working). I would give the thermometer 5 stars except it needs a battery after using it less than 2 weeks. I'm not sure if it was sitting on the shelf for a few years (causing the battery to drain) or if the back light and beeping eat the battery that fast. When I have to replace this one, I'm thinking of a glass thermometer (no beeping to keep me awake but also no battery to worry about).

Customer Review: Works well but if you are hard -of 4 Stars

I will spare everyone by not rehashing the complimentary remarks about this thermometer.

I am pleased with accuracy, appearance, and ease of use. I am hard of hearing and could not hear the beeps. I use it anyway and trust my sense of timing.

I have difficulty hearing other "beeping things" such as my camera. I believe manufacturers should design these type items with lower frequency beeps which might then be audible to the hard of hearing or "Audio Unblessed" - whatever the PC term is.

Someone commented on the toughness of the packaging. I agree, but am saving mine in the event I attend a town hall meeting about the Obama health care plan, when I will use it as body armor.

Customer Review: Do not buy the Rapid Flex
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the BD RapidFlex version and found it completely useless. When I first got it, I compared it against an old hospital glass thermometer and the RapidFlex measured 6 points below. I thought the old glass thermometer could be faulty or perhaps I was not using the digital one correctly. The next day I had a doctor's appointment and they took my temperature digitally and I used mine in the very same way, same spot and now it was 8 points below. BD used to be a good brand, and it was the maker of all my glass thermometers, but now they do not even allow you to send them an email as a consumer. I am looking for another brand and returning this one.
