Customer Reviews of Basal Digital ThermometerCustomer Review: Hate the Beeps Summary: 2 Stars
I like that the thermometer measures only 10ths. I like that it's backlit. It seems accurate.
I can not stand the beeping. Yes, I cover the speaker hole with my finger or bury it in the pillow. It's still annoying. And it's still too loud.
Some people are just more sensitive to beeps than others. I am the kind of person who has to put her microwave on mute or she wouldn't use it. Apparently my 15-mo-old daughter takes after me in this way. The thermometer wakes her up every morning. She's in another room and both doors are closed. I cover the hole to muffle the sound. It still wakes her up and jars me every morning.
I'm very frustrated about that. BD, you should have a way to turn off the beeps! Beeps should always be an optional feature. If you could give me that, then I'd love the product.
Customer Review: Slow and obnoxious Summary: 1 Stars
This is a slow slow SLOW thermometer that only has one decimal place (typically basal thermometers have two). However, the real killer is the beeping that it does while it's taking your temperature. Most people using this probably do so early in the mornings with with a partner in their bed and there is no way to quietly use this thing without disturbing him. Beeping when it's done would be one thing, but beeping repeatedly is just stupid. Moreover, it does have a light-up screen but it doesn't light up automatically! You have to press the button fast before the read-out disappears.
On the plus side, it has a memory feature, which is useful when you don't hit the button fast enough to light up the screen and have to check it later.
All in all, I would rather have just gotten a cheap regular thermometer from a drug store.
Customer Review: Only records to the tenths place Summary: 1 Stars
This is my third basal thermometer. The first was chewed up by my dog; the second, and current thermometer, is a Walgreen's brand and only beeps when it has reached the highest measured temperature. I wanted a thermometer that beeps continuously as it measures temperature so I purchased the BD basal thermometer from Amazon and was surprised to find that it did not record the hundredths place as my first two generic thermometers did, i.e. 98.2 instead of 98.26. I believe recording the hundredths place is the main function of a basal thermometer. Also, I found it to be rather inaccurate. My BBT, as measured from the first two thermometers, is a bit on the low side when I'm not ovulating (usually 97.xx), but this one continuously reads 98.x, and does not change throughout the day. Needless to say I am back to using the Walgreen's version.
Customer Review: Not as great as the primarily displayed review states Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this thermometer on the basis of the September 2009 review by Anonymous that appeared to give pretty compelling testimony that all the other reviews for this product were worthless. I wish now I'd paid more attention to the other reviews! The beeps are in fact quite loud, particularly if you have a light-sleeper of a spouse. While the recall feature would display a tempurature before going into ready mode, that temperature was always the same number, rather than actually being my last temperature. And worst of all, the thermometer did not read my temperature accurately. Not once in my cycle did my temperature read as below 98 degrees until I bought another thermometer to try. All in all, this thermometer was a waste of my money...and my time, as it delayed accurate charting for a cycle.
Customer Review: Best Basal Digital Thermometer I've Used Summary: 5 Stars
Best basal digital thermometer I've purchased. After several thermometers from the drug store with short lifespans or not being accurate I read lots of reviews and settled on this thermometer. I would highly recommend. It has held up well and is very accurate.
Pros:
Very reliable
Very Accurate
Sturdy
Contains memory of last temperature taken
Cons:
Beeps intermintently while taking temperature (if this will bother you or wake spouse this is not the thermometer for you)
Backlight feature only turns on briefly when you turn off thermometer (I typically turn on my nightstand light for additional light)
This being the third brand of basal digital thermometers I've tried, this is the best and I would highly recommend it.
