Customer Review: One-in-a-million glitch

UPDATE: In April 2006 I sent the clock in a second time, and BioBrite replaced the clock entirely. I now have a white noise model. However, this clock is now randomly making static noise like a hand radio stuck on a bad signal! The noise is random and wakes me up or scares me while I lie in bed. I do not have the noise feature on. Now, I have to call BioBrite again, pay to ship the clock again, and pray a working clock can be acquired!
I bought the clock in late 2005. The clock's "Sun Rise" was not fading up or down constantly and the bulb was flickering sporadically. I sent the clock in for service early 2006 and the BioBrite company replaced the Display Board; however, the clock is still not working correctly. I am very disappointed and quite furious every morning the clock fails. Rather than waking peacefully to a slow "sun rise", I wake up to what I feel is more like a strobe light. I have spent close to $150.00 on this clock including shipping back for service. I don't feel this clock was made to act the way it has with me, I am sure it's just a 1-in-a-million glitch, but it's not amusing.
I cannot wait for the clock to work consistently ... when it does work it's the most wonderful way to wake up I have ever experienced. In the past I've had the most difficult time waking up in the morning and I was chronically late before this clock. It has been a great tool, even if it worked just the first few nights; those mornings waking up with this clock when it worked were enough to motivate my wake patterns!

I waited about 2 years to review this clock because I wanted to really try it out.
Pros:
- it's very well-made, sleek design
- silent (unless you set the sound alarm#
- beautiful glow from the bulb/dome
- white noise comes in handy
- alarm sound #optional# is not too jarring
- very easy to use, has many extra features #Such as security light,etc, you can adjust the speed of the sunrise.#
- Biobrite will help you out if it breaks, malfunctions/needs replacement parts
Cons:
- it is pretty big, takes up almost my entire small bedside table
- The bottom of the glass dome chips easily #but it isn't visible unless you take the dome off.)
I am a really heavy sleeper. It's taken me 2 years to get used to this alarm, but I think I'm finally responding to it. FOr the first year or so I used the light with the alarm sound because the light just wasn't enough. But I stuck with it. At this point I believe I"ve finally trained myself to wake with just the light.
One of our cats spilled a mug full of tea near my sunrise clock and I was devastated because the buttons wouldn't work after that. But my husband took it apart and cleaned the buttons with alcohol and it was fine ever since. So KEEP IT AWAY FROM MOISTURE/WATER/DRINKS, etc.
I can tell you that for the SINGLE night I was faced with not having my sunrise clock I was REALLY sad. I would have gotten another one if it came down to it. I hope it never breaks! I really love it.
Customer Review: Mixed Emotions, but Sweet Resolution!

I love the concept and loved the alarm -when it worked. I bought it about 3 years ago, and just beyond the warranty date I began having trouble with the rate of sunrise/sunset...WAY faster than whatever setting I chose (15, 30min, etc -it would come up in a couple of minutes -not a relaxing awakening at all!!). This was a pain because I would have to unplug and do a hard reset to get it to act right, and in 24hrs...same problem came back. But I loved this alarm and paid alot for it, so I decided to make due. Then the plastic button that allows to you dim the light and make selections completely broke off into the housing. I went another month using the alarm with a large sharpie marker by the bed to stick into the hole and operate the broken button, but I could only stand to do this for so long. Now I'd LOVE to replace the clock with a newer, improved model, but I'm afraid these look exactly the same (just offered in white now)-not sure if there are other changes. That said, I STILL love this clock!
LATER... I must add that the manufacturer offered to make all these repairs for a small fee (this is way beyond warranty date). Will let you know how it goes.
NOT long after... Wow. What a great company: Bio-Brite. They fixed my clock for a very small fee and way past warranty date. AND they were unbelievably fast! I am SO happy to have my sun-rise alarm back -and just in time to start Dental Hygiene School (long days ahead). ;) Thank You, Bio-Brite! If I knew how, I'd add another star to your rating!!
Customer Review: 100% better way to wake up

I've always had a difficult time adjusting to daylight savings time. It does not matter that it is dark when I get home from work, but I MUST have light when I wake up or my whole day is shot. I've been considering the Oregon Scientific model, but feedback on that has been very poor, so I checked out the Biobrite. I've only used this two mornings and I can't believe the difference in how I feel. Waking up just seems so much more natural and plesant. First morning, the light woke me up exactly at the alarm time. Second morning, it took a little longer, but was I was still plenty awake before my husband's radio alarm went off.
I don't really have a place near my head to place this clock, so it's on a dresser across the room. This may not work for everyone, but it is still plenty of light to awaken me. If I start waking later, I'll find a bedside table to place it on.
Really, I am amazed at the difference in my wakefulness, demeanor, and overall alertness. Both nights I did not get a full night's sleep, but I felt as if I was ready to get up when the light awakened me. If my husband did not use a radio alarm, I would use the beeper as a back up, but I just don't need it. I have yet to try the sundown or white noise features.
It should be noted that this type of clock is not for everyone. My husband sleeps right through it and still wakes up (grumpily) to the radio, but for me it is a lifesaver.
