I previously wrote that I was not that happy with the product due to a variety of issues. I e-mailed BioBrite with my review and got a very interesting response back within a day. She had a helpful response to all my questions/comments, including that I can use a good quality extension cord to plug in the clock. This way, with some manuevering, I was able to put it directly in my line of vision next to my bed. This morning I woke up to bright light in my eyes and was annoyed, but realized I was awake and it wasn't even 8am yet. At 8am the clock started beeping gently. It was definitely a lot nicer than a blaring alarm clock in a pitch dark room. Plus the CSR explained you can change the display brightness using the manual if you want to be able to see the clock at all times.
I'd say there is still a minor bit of clumsiness associated with some of the product details, but overall, a good product. I'm going to use it as my primary alarm clock and use my old one as backup, just because I'm paranoid.
Enjoy. And if you are discouraged at first glance, the directions are pretty clear, plus BioBrite responds quickly and helpfully with further questions you may have.

PS: The box says white noise on all of them since they only have one box, but only some come with white noise. Read the seller's notes carefully to see which one you are getting.

Waking up to a regular alarm clock is like getting kicked in the nuts by a screaming Gilbert Gottfried; waking to this thing is like being gently caressed awake by a smiling Natalie Portman.
Seriously, this thing rules. I used to be miserable in the morning. The phrase "good morning" felt like an oxymoron. I hit snooze repeatedly and was both physically and mentally worthless for a good 40 minutes or more after regretfully getting up.
With this alarm clock I actually feel inclined to wake up when I first hear its soft beeping. Having a light slowly brighten 30 minutes before my alarm seems to actually convince my subconscious brain that morning has come.
The "sun down" dimming feature also stops me from reading for an hour past when I intended to get to bed, and the white noise makes the sounds of my insomniac, nymphomaniac neighbors less noticeable.
I don't want to say it is changing my life, but it can't be bad for my career to get to work on time and in a pleasant mood.
Also, this thing looks nice (with my modern decor--it might seem out of place if your room is all antiques), and it is easier to program than any alarm clock I have used. I have no need for a second alarm, but I am not a particularly heavy sleeper. I think the people who gave this thing bad reviews either got defective units or didn't read the manual.

I have had this clock for a few years now and can say it is worth every penny. I was planning on buying the clock without the white noise feature only because I did not know they had one with it. I am glad I found this baby when I did. I use to share a room with a very loud snoring person. Having to sleep with earplugs can be uncomfortable. At first I couldn't believe it would allow me to sleep without earplug so I did not try the white noise immediately. Then after a few weeks I figured to give it a try. BOY! How I wished I picked this up sooner than I did!!! No more earplugs no more tossing and turning or burying my head under my pillow. The white noise blocked out the snoring by letting my ears focus on it (the white noise also lulls me to sleep faster on any night I need help) rather than the annoying sounds of a jack hammer crossing a saw blade, I mean snoring. Restful sleep AT LAST! The fact that I wake late (night shift) having the "SUN" rise with me was better than waking to a dark room and having to spend the next couple of hours adjusting. I set mine to rise 30 minutes before the alarm goes off. Since the bulb is a dimmer type bulb it actually works like a rising sun. This needs to be in every bedroom of the house. PAY THE EXTRA for the white noise feature you won't be disappointed.Customer Review: Great idea, could be better made

We've had this for about a year now. I always have had trouble waking in the mornings. This helps a lot. We don't need to use any other alarms or even the "beep" function. By the time the light is halfway up, we're pretty much awake. (As long as no one succumbs to the urge to turn it down again mid-way!) Using the sunset function works well for limiting the length of bedtime story reading and transitioning from stories to sleep for the kids.
My only quibble is the quality of this lamp/clock. When we first got it, the light would flicker or strobe unexpectedly. Time and tinkering seemed to fix it. The white noise function barely works. It only comes on when the light is on, if I screw around with it, and goes off when the light does. There's no separate control for it, nor a volume control. I wish that were separate. Is it just me, or doesn't it seem counter-intuitive to have the white noise only run when the light is ON? It doesn't come back on when the sunrise function begins, either.
The clock also runs consistently fast. Every few weeks I have to adjust it as the time grows ten or more minutes ahead.
We like it a lot, but there are a lot of foibles to contend with for the price.

When I initially received this, the light bulb was smashed (maybe they should have used more packaging than bubble wrap in a thin cardboard box for the bulb). The company sent me a new bulb for free, but it took a while to get here.
I'm not a morning person, and this device definitely helps me wake up in the morning. I feel like it gently pulls me out of sleep and does a great job "getting me ready" to wake up. However, I don't quite trust myself to rely on waking up from it alone, so I use it in conjunction with my old audio alarm clock.
There's a lot of neat functionality built into the clock, but the controls are pretty confusing. It feels like they tried to make too few buttons do too much. You'll probably have to keep the manual handy to do even simple tasks, like changing the time for daylight savings.
Overall, I'm happy with the product, but I wish it weren't so damned expensive. It seems like all the different brands of light-based alarm clocks are in roughly the same price range, so I don't think BioBrite is ripping people off, but jeez, it's essentially an alarm clock hooked up to a dimmer switch... how expensive can that be to make?
