I am actually appalled that I have survived being woken by a traditional alarm clock for the entire portion of my life up until a few weeks ago when I purchased this sunrise clock. The contrast between waking to a warm light compared to a jarring noise out of the darkness is amazing. I would never go back to a traditional alarm clock after my experience the last few weeks. The first night I was very curious to see if the light itself would actually wake me. Turned out, I woke up about every hour of the night, opening my eyes to see if it was "getting light" yet, lol. And still, with all the restless sleep, I still woke up about 15 minutes into the sunrise, before the "sound" alarm had even gone off. But if you're way too sleep deprived and sleep through the sunrise, the alarm that wakes you is actually pleasant sounding, as opposed to every other sounding beep I've heard emitted from any alarm clock. Additionally, the clock has a sundown feature, the reverse of the sunrise feature. I was very surprised at how the fading light helps lull you to sleep. Bottom line: when you fall asleep and wake up by this clock, you'll begin and end your day in a much better way.Customer Review: Great while it worked

I bought a BioBrite alarm clock a little more than a year ago, and really liked it, despite the annoying lack of buttons that made it challenging to set the alarm, time, etc...once I got the hang of it it wasn't THAT bad, and the sunrise feature really did help me get up more easily.
However, all of a sudden the alarm has stopped working half of the time (and the warranty expired just a couple of months ago). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Luckily I woke up on my own the first time it happened, because I had a mid-term that day! For $120, I shouldn't have to use a backup alarm clock. And based on the other reviews here, this is not a one-time occurrence. I will certainly not be buying anything else from this company.
Update - I emailed Biobrite and they told me to unplug it for 20 minutes, then while plugging it back in to simultaneously hold down the program button. This seems to have worked, but I'm still only giving the alarm 3 stars because this is such a bizarre thing to have to do. They should be able to make an alarm that doesn't have this problem.

This is a great sunrise alarm clock. We have had a sunrise alarm (different brand/style) for the past 6 years and the buttons were difficult to use and it did not seem to be of good quality - always on the edge of breaking. We recently purchased this clock and really like how it is set up and the quality of the product in general. The buttons are easy to use to set the alarm time, the feature of having a 15 or 30 minute sunrise is great (we like to use the 15 minute cycle and other models did not have the option to select a faster sunrise time), it is attractive enough - looks somewhat small on the website but it is pretty good sized, provides good light - enough to read by at night as well as ample light for waking up, and has a nice loud alarm to accompany the sunrise should you sleep through it. Overall we are very satisfied - the only slight con is that when the alarm is not turned on the digital numbers on the clock are illuminated quite a bit more than when the alarm function is on, which is annoying as we like the numbers to be softly illuminated. This is a good buy for the money.Customer Review: love it!

This product is a little bigger than I expected when I ordered it, but I am extremely pleased with the results. I live in the northeast where it is very dark when I wake up at 5:30 in the morning. Before buying this alarm clock, my old alarm clock would rudely awake me from a deep sleep and I, feeling totally exhausted, would hit snooze two or three times before I felt like I could possibly get up. This dawn simulator, however, gently brings you from a deep sleep into a gradually lighter and lighter sleep before it beeps. In fact, I find that I usually wake up on my own now before it even beeps at 5:30.
This alarm clock has many great features including a snooze option, a security program, dawn and dusk simulators... even the beep (if you choose to use it) gradually grows louder over 60 seconds.
This alarm clock only has four buttons and many features, so programming it at first was a little difficult. After a little time, however, programming is quick and easy. I have let my friends borrow it and they all, even the very deep sleepers, LOVE it!

I got this unit because I live in a northern region and have a hard time with the lack of light in Winter months. I'm a heavy sleeper, so the light alone wouldn't have woken me; but it was really pleasant to wake up to the soft light given that it was so dark outside. About six months before the warranty expired, the clock stopped keeping accurate time. The company told me to pack it up and ship it to Maryland for repair. I did, and in a couple of weeks the unit was back with a new clock inside. My impression is that most of the unit is for the lighting mechanism, and the clock itself is very small and not that high quality. The clock ran fine for several more months. Not long after the warranty expired, though, the clock started gaining time again. I could have mailed it back to Maryland and paid for the repair out of pocket...but it was more cost effective just to buy a decent digital alarm clock. The sunrise feature was nice, but, given that it lasted only a couple of years, it wasn't worth $100 more than my current run-of-the-mill clock.
