I bought this clock hoping to dispell some of the dreariness that happens here in the winter in the NW. It gets dark at 4pm, and you wake up to dark - and it rains all day, and is generally gray. You get the idea. I liked the idea of waking up to an actual sunrise. The clock itself is not well made, it has a standard bulb, and a cheap glass cover. I could make a similar gradual lightening with a timer plugged into a regular lamp and a dimmer. I was not impressed for over 100 bucks. The white noise sound has no volume control. Its either on or off. The only cool part about the light is that you can set it to start dimming at night 45, 30 or 15 minutes before you want to go to sleep. I use this while reading, and do get tired as the lights gradually dim. The light does gradually wake me up in the morning - and that part of the purchase was worth it. However, after a few minutes at full light - it auto turns off. All in all, a good idea, but not the best product. As someone who finds being roused from sleep most unpleasant, AND who has a job which requires rising before the sun, I have found the BioBrite Sunrise Clock to be a welcome addition to my morning routine. The first few mornings I used this clock, I enjoyed waking up gradually over 30 minutes and I felt refreshed upon rising. Some of the novelty has worn off after a month, but it still beats a traditional alarm clock. My complaints are few: first, the programming instructions in the product manual do not correspond to the actual display (i.e. the manual instructs user to press the program button until the display reads "Sunrise 15" when in reality the display will read "Fadeup 15"); second, to use the "snooze" function, you must press the second button from the left, which is difficult to find and/or remember early in the morning (I inadvertently pressed the "off" button one morning instead). Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and would recommend the Sunrise Clock to anyone who needs a gentle but steady rouse in the morning.Customer Review: Great, aside from the "Sleep Sounds" feature

A few years ago, I purchased the basic Pearl Sunrise clock for myself and have been perfectly pleased with it. However, my mother is a much more sensitive sleeper so I thought this version with the additional "sleep sound" features (specified:"ocean waves, rain, babbling brook, white noise") would be perfect xmas gift for her. The programing was a little complicated for my not-so-tech-savy mom so I set it up for her. In the process, I discovered a significant flaw. I am SO disappointed with the sound quality! It's short-coming should have been a give-away that this version only cost an add'l $10 over my original version I guess. How great could the sound quality be for so little....If only Bose manufactured a clock with the "simulated sunrise" lighting feature! THAT would be perfect. I purchased mine directly from BioBrite's website so I will be contacting them shortly regarding a return. The alternative is for her to just keep it and not use the 'sounds' feature. At first, I was very satisfied with my sunrise clock. It wakes you up slowly and you feel great all day long.
However, only one week after purchase it broke. The "alarm" button just wasn't responding anymore, it was no longer an alarm clock but rather a clock with a lamp on it...
I had to ship it back to the seller for a refund.
The concept and design are great, but it seems cheaply built. For the price, I would have expected a better quality. I must admit, I'm disappointed. I think I will wait few more years before buying another sunrise clock, quality just isn't there yet. Don't waste your time and money on this clock.
I went back to my old 20+ years digital Sony clock, which is almost as old as I am.
PROS:
- Wakes you up slowly
- Can be used as a bed lamp
- Design
CONS:
- Poor quality
- Only one beeping sound, and no volume
- No integrated radio
BOTTOM LINE: do not buy now, wait a few more years.
Customer Review: A True Life-Changing Purchase

This simple little clock has been completely life-changing for me - and my fiancee! First of all, I have suspected Seasonal Affective Disorder, to the point where insufficient natural light has been known to result in a nasty form of apathy. Since I started using this clock, I've noticed a meaningful improvement in my daily mood and ability to work.
However, even for people without these problems, I can highly recommend this alarm clock. It's one of the gentlest ways to wake up I've ever found, even if you sleep until the alarm starts beeping, as it starts quiet (but insistent) and slowly increases the volume. I've slept through other alarm clocks, but not this one - yet, until you've experienced this clock, you don't realize how much waking up startled impacts the flow of your day. With the BioBrite Sunrise Clock, I wake up more slowly, and end up far more awake and ready to go!
Yes, it's expensive... but you have to wake up every morning of every day. It's worth improving the experience.
