Customer Reviews of Bounce Dryer Bar - 2 Month Outdoor Fresh, 44-Use Box Carton and Plastic Clamshell (Pack of 6)Customer Review: Convenience vs. Control (Bounce Dryer Bar 2 Month/44-Use, Outdoor Fresh) Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Bounce Dryer Bar has two parts: (1) plastic holder with sticky adhesive back to be placed on dryer drum to hold in place (2) fabric softener bar (looks and feels somewhat like a soap bar) anchored to a plastic base that snaps into the holder
POSITIVES
* I can no longer forget to add fabric softener
* No more searching through laundry loads searching for used dryer sheets to throw away
* No boxes or bottles needing storage, less waste
* Bar softener portion is detachable from holder so you can remove bar when drying items such as microfiber towels which should not be dried with fabric softener
* Bar appears to be held in place securely
* Scent of dried clothes was not overwhelming
* Takes care of static and provides softness comparable to dryer sheets
NEGATIVES
* Less control over how much softener is used in each load. The dried clothes felt slightly more "filmy" than when I use 1 dryer sheet - maybe a result of too much softener being released from the bar (?). With the bar, you can never use less than what the bar releases
* Holder uses sticky residue to adhere to dryer drum, some adhesive remains when removed >.<
* Have occasionally found small chalky rub-off spots from softener bar on dark fabric - mark goes away with simple rubbing into fabric
* Packaging of product would be better if bar was sealed in a layer of plastic or something to keep scent from permeating everywhere. The bar is packed freely in cardboard (a bit of molded plastic holds it in place, but it is not a closed container), which leaves a lot of room for dryer bar's scent to escape. This could get slightly annoying if you have several of these in storage not being used
I appreciate the convenience of not having to add and remove dryer sheets, but I still prefer having more control over how much softener is used. I won't give up my dryer sheets for this quite yet.
Customer Review: Love this product! Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered Bounce Dryer Bars shortly after they came out. It seemed like a great idea to me so I did a bit of research. There tended to be two types of reviews... either people loved them or they hated them. A bit more research and I found that most that hated them had problems with them adhearing to the inside of the dryer. As I read more reviews I learned that MANY people were actually installing them incorrectly. Install them correctly and you will be much less likely to have a problem.
I used alcohol to clean the location on the dryer DRUM wall (NOT THE FIN) where I wanted to place the bar. After cleaning I let it dry. (Don't use a spray cleanser or disinfectant wipe... they might leave a residue that will prevent good adhesion.) Then I took the holder out of the package, removed the backing from the sticky foam, and firmly stuck it to the clean location. I let it set overnight to develop a good, firm hold. The next day I slid the bar into the holder and made sure the clips on each end were engaged and held it firmly.
It has been fantastic! Laundry is one step simpler now. I have since installed an additional holder so that I can have two bars in the dryer for certain loads where I want extra softness.
- When I wash something and I don't want any softener I simply push down one of the end clips on the holder and remove the bar.
- I haven't had any problem at all with the holder catching on laundry.
- For normal, daily laundry I simply leave both holders in... one with a bar on it and the other with an empty bar frame.
- I haven't had a problem with darks picking up white streaks. I do launder darks inside out - but I have always done that to minimize abrasion and loss of color.
- I prefer the 4 month bars - but I do a lot of laundry.
- I almost always use the hottest setting in my dryer and I use the automatic setting that senses the moisture to determine when a load is dry and the cool down at the end of the cycle.
- The bars do pick up lint and look kind of strange, but I just leave them alone to do their thing.
Customer Review: Overall, no more convenient than sheets for me Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
A lot of the pros and cons of this product that I experienced have been covered by others here (especially nowann's excellent summary), including:
- Pros: no chance to forget to add sheets
- Cons: the packaging, no control over amount used per load, the adhesive, and residue left on clothes
Now for why I'm going to stick with sheets, at least for the time being:
The overall point of this product is simply to save time, right? After all, if I forget to put in a Bounce dryer sheet, I can always redo the load - but that takes time. So, the one con that completely removes this convenience for me is the residue that ends up on some clothes. Rub it off or wash it off - now I'm spending time trying to remove the side effects of my new "time saver." Because I can't remember the last time that I forgot to add a dryer sheet (it's just habit), the time associated with the residue completely overwhelms any advantages for me.
So, the end result of fabric softening and static removal are no better than Bounce sheets, but there are some downsides compared to sheets (residue on clothes, less control over how much is used per load) that outweigh the benefits (won't forget to add sheets) for me.
As an aside, I actually like having the leftover dryer sheets, so I didn't put "no sheets to throw away" as a pro for the bar. I put some in with my towels to keep them smelling fresh, use some in my shoes, and I also carry one in my pocket in the winter time here because it's so dry that clothes build up static without it.
Customer Review: Disappointed. Got mediocre performance. A glorified dryer air freshner. Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Bounce Dryer Bar is a clever idea. Install the bar and forget about it for about 2 months while your clothes come out fresh smelling and soft. I could hardly wait to use this product.
I did find the holder bar to be easy to install and stayed secure even after a month of constant use. The freshener bar is similar in texture to soap and smells fantastic. As it gets used, it wears down. However, it's not pretty. Dark lint tends to collect on the bar and makes it look messy. And I wonder if that build up is interfering with the dryer bars performance.
The outdoor fresh scent is fabulous, but it doesn't translate to the clothes very well. Every time I open my dryer door, I'm blasted by the great scent promising me great smelling clothes. But when I take a deep smell of my freshly dried clothes, I smell....nothing. I can barely smell the same great scent that has so richly perpetrated my dryer.
Bounce products have always performed very well and I had high expectations for the Bounce bar. However, after a month of constant use, I found the Bounce bar performed mediocre in comparison to generic dryer sheets. It basically is a glorified dryer freshener. While my dryer smells wonderfully outdoor fresh promising great smelling clothes, the promises fall flat as my clothes barely carry the scent and the softness is so-so.
The Bounce Dryer bar is a great idea that needs more time in development.
Customer Review: Great replacement for dryer sheets -- stick it, and forget it! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was skeptical about this product. The dryer is a harsh environment when you consider the heat, tumbling, and humidity. But this product, after over two months, has definitely proven itself.
There's really nothing you need to do to prepare this item for use. I selected a plain flat surface on the dryer drum, removed the paper backing from the adhesive, and stuck it firmly to the surface. It's been there for over two months. As for the fabric-softener refill, it is just now starting to show "end of life". We are a family of three, and we do most of our laundry on weekends, probably completing 3 to 4 dryer loads per weekend. The product has lasted longer than it's anticipated 2-month period, as stated on the package.
I honestly believe this product works better than dryer sheets. The scent lasts longer and is more evenly distributed throughout the clothing. It doesn't leave any marks on the clothing (I thought it would), even on blacks and dark blues. The real convenience is that you won't find any of the fabric softner sheets while you are folding laundry, which sometimes become lost in shirts' sleeves or pants' legs. There's nothing to throw away, nothing to remember to put into the dryer -- this is really easy. The only thing you need to do is check for the "replace" indicator about every 2-3 weeks, and keep a spare refill handy.
If you feel that fabric softener sheets don't work as well as they should, give this product a try.
