Our Dryer Bar was installed properly following directions. That was the one and only time it did what it was supposed to.
The dryer holder came away from drum the first time it was used - a full 24 hours after installation. Since I left the house I did not hear the noise until I came back in the back door. Ker-plunk! Ker-plunk! These are just some of the many sounds you never want to hear coming from your dryer. I opened the dryer right away but the damage had already been done. The inside of the dryer, while smelling very nice and lineny, was filled with one disaster after another. Once I was able to extricate the dryer bar parts and find the big gummy ball of gunk, then I started trying to separate the bigger chunks from clothing. That was just the beginning.
All of the clothing needed to be rewashed in the hottest water possible to remove all of the gunked-up junk from them. I did this, following directions from the Bounce representatives. Before I washed the clothes, I scraped off as much of the gooey junk as possible. Washing the clothing was not sufficient to remove the junk. Essentially, all of the clothes in that load were ruined.
Then there is the inside of the dryer drum which had gummy crud all over it. The Bounce representative suggested I use a very hot and wet washcloth to clean up the mess. It would have been nice if it had been as easy as they said. What really happened was that I spent a couple of hours scrubbing the inside of the dryer. I found that running the dryer to heat it up helps a lot in getting the gooey stuff off from it. The gunk did not come away easily and as my dryer is white, it was also very difficult to find without touching it.
It is very difficult to reach the back of the dryer to scrub it. I don't know if you have ever tried this before but it requires the skill of a contortionist. An ambidextrous contortionist. I didn't want to try kneeling on the door of the dryer so I stood off to the side, bent my body over, twisted inside of the dryer and held onto the side of the drum with one hand while I scrubbed with other hand, until it went numb. Then I extricated myself from the dryer, bent over, twisted myself into the side of the dryer from the other direction, and repeated the operation. This also worked better when the dryer was heated up. If you are wondering why I didn't just leave the gunk there to get collected by the next load of clothing, double check the third paragraph to this review. Many of the noises and unpleasant screams coming from the laundry room were during this part of the operation.
The dryer bar holder left deep grey scratches all over the inside of the dryer. Some of them seem to be coming off, with scrubbing, but not all.
I got these directions for clean up from the nice people who answered the phone at the 800-number I found on the Bounce website. They wanted to send me a coupon to receive another Bounce product. That was very sweet of them. They were very nice. The representative said she had never heard of this happening before.
