Customer Reviews of Braun 5270 X'elle Body System EpilatorCustomer Review: 2nd review Summary: 3 Stars
this is my 2nd review for this product i gave it 5 stars the next day i bought it as i really loved it.but today i am giving it 3 stars after using it for 2 months and this is why.
1-my hair is growing faster than the rate i used too when i was waxing,i used to wax my arms every 3 weeks but now i epilate every week.
2-the growing hair is rough, thick not as i used to have it while waxing .
3- i had a bad problem with hair growing under skin (arms and legs)which increased very much after starting using silk-epil.which need to be exfoliated which is an annoying thing for me to do.
But to be honest i still use it ,especialy for upper lip and whole face ( but also the hair grows faster than i used with threading)
i belive i have to take rest from time to time and go back to waxing at least it exfoliat my skin and gives a healthy feeling.and i still believe it saves time ,effort nd money
i am attaching my first review
I got it yesterday and i used it ,i don't believe my self in less than half an hour i was done with my legs ,my arms and under my arms. i used to use wax and suger which used to take longer time and sometimes i go for shaving if i am in hurry and the hair is short to be waxed.
yes it is painful ( is there a method for removing hair not painful???)in the begining but i believe i can tolerate this pain for the sake of time and effort saving.
i tried it near the sensitive area but i felt it hurts very much and leaves the skin injured with bleeding ,Don't use on sensitive area nor near it TRUST ME.use your old way you used to remove the hair in this area.
i have fine facial hair where i used to get it done by threading ,but i tried Silk Epil over it and it wasn't painful at all and i got a clean smooth face,i used it for upper lip too ,its great better than waxing and threading i used to do. ( be careful not to go near your eyebrows )
wowww i am saving alot of money by no more threading
By the way i bought it from bed bath and beyond and used a coupon and got it cheaper than here.
but thanks amazon customers for the reviews that helped me to buy it.
Customer Review: OUCH! Summary: 3 Stars
I recommend doing your underarms first...(make sure you're sitting on the floor when you do this)...when you regain consciousness and go after the hair on your legs, the pain won't seem NEARLY as bad!! My armpits were swollen for two days! OUCH!
Seriously, the jury is still out as to whether I'm going to keep on doing my underarm areas with this thing as I'm not sure I'll ever get used to the blinding pain. Not even with a glass of wine on board! But my legs are doing okay. Yes, the first time was a real ordeal, but subsequent maintenance (once a week) has been very quick and relatively painless.
Overall, I don't think my legs are quite as smooth as they were with shaving...but, then again, I don't have stubble two days later, either so the pro outweighs the con. I suspect that some of my finer leg hairs are actually being broken off as opposed to pulled out as mentioned by an earlier reviewer. This is probably why my legs aren't quite as smooth as I wish. I do get bumps from ingrown hairs now and have to regularly exfoliate with a BufPuf sponge, but still, not a bad product.
UPDATE - 8 June 2008 - I've been using this torture device for nearly a year now. I never did gather the courage to attempt to tackle my underarms again, but I did continue doing my legs on a regular basis. I was always plagued with ingrown hair bumps, especially around my ankles and knees and could never completely eliminate the problem even with exfoliation and regular sluffing with a BufPuf sponge. Also, I always had kind of a rough, stubbly feeling the entire length of my legs and I'm positive it was because my hairs were being broken off at skin level as opposed to being pulled out.
So . . . I began to ask myself why on earth I was putting up with the pain of having my leg hairs pulled when I wasn't gaining the benefit of smooth, silky skin. I quit using the Silk-epil about six weeks ago and have resumed my regular shower dates with my razor. My ingrown hair bumps have disappeared and my legs couldn't be smoother and silkier. I use the Gillette Venus razor two to three times a week and couldn't be happier. Oh . . . the Silk-epil? I sold it on an online auction site!
Customer Review: Holy Grail Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got mine today and I'm already in love! After a bad experience with a crappy emjoi epilator, and spending tons of $$$ on waxing and getting wax all over my bathroom, not to mention the countless amount of time and money spent shaving, I have finally found the product I've been looking for.
For my first time I did what another reviewer suggested and shaved first. Then I ran the epilator over the spots I shaved so my body would get used to the way it feels and relax. Lucky for me, shaving didn't get everything and I did get to actually epilate.
First of all, it does hurt. But it's bearable, and after a while, it starts to feel good. Kind of the way exfoliating feels good. It's hard to explain. I started with the slowest setting and the training wheels clip, then got bored and used the expert clip and the fastest setting! I am probably the biggest wimp when it comes to pain- I still cry when I get shots. But I was shocked at how little this guy hurt. The emjoi I had hurt way more than this and didn't even get all the little hairs out. This sucker gets out all the little hairs, my legs feel incredibly smooth!
The smartlight feature is absolutely indespensible, in my opinion. I was suprised at how much hair shaving left behind on the back of my thighs and it was really satisfying watching them fly off as I ran the epilator over my legs. The Braun 5270 was fun to use, and strangely satisfying. :)
After reading the reviews on Amazon, I was expecting some lawn mower sounding device that would wake up the whole family. The noise is actually very mild, at least compared to the emjoi I tried once. My cat, who's horrified of any noise, sat right next to me and cleaned himself as I epilated. The noise was so mild for me I forgot about it.
Overall, this is an incredible product. I was expecting dissappointment again but instead landed my holy grail epilator! I was even able to use this in the bikini area, albeit holding the skin very taught and bending into some very contorted positions.
I absolutely cannot recommend this product enough! Ladies, if you're afraid of the pain or the noise, take a deep breath and just go for it. The results are totally worth it.
Customer Review: Great product!! Summary: 4 Stars
Highly recommend the product! I love it..
Finally I can stop shaving!
Received the product in 3 days! The epilator was pre-assembled although the manual showed how to assemble the product. I also found some vaseline like substance, perhaps it was used during the assembly, but the product was brand new. I started using it without any preparation like people in their reviews had suggested (warm shower to reduce pain, pain medication etc). Actually if you can withstand threading, this pain is minimal. I don't understand why pain is an issue. I would definately not recommend consuming pain killers etc, it is insane, come on!! after all we have waxed or threaded before and the pain does not kill you does it?? I do agree that initially it hurts, but it is the same plucking sensation from threading and as you epilate on skin patch by patch, even this pain becomes negligible. I would recommend chatting with your friend or watching tv or listening to music while epilating to distract yourself from the pain. The process is super fast and I took 15 min to epilate both arms, fingers to shoulders. The smart light is very effective and the massaging rollers also indeed reduce pain. However after your epilate you will notice small bumps on the skin so you must wash the area with cold water, dab it dry and then massage some soothing lotion over it.Skin feels like silk. I would recommend first-timers to use the slow speed setting and enjoy the experience without worrying about the pain. Afterall I am sure we women are capable of withstanding worse pains :)
I have epilated before this, roughly 9 years ago I used my aunt's Braun. That one was very painful and slow so you could feel the hairs being plucked one by one, however I can assure you that Braun has advanced a lot over the last decade because this epilator is so much less painful compared to the old one. I try it on the bikini line gradually patch by patch. Shaving for me has been a bad experience, scraping of skin, burning and tingling sensation etc, which is unhealthy and can cause the skin to get septic(infections). Thanks to this braun!
Relax and don't worry about the pain- the results are simply wonderful!
Customer Review: Does Just What It Says It Will Summary: 5 Stars
My advice is as follows: get this product and commit to using it for several weeks at least. You need to use it that long before you'll reap the full benefits. It's an excellent tool and should be used as a part of your routine- NOT as a quick "I'm going out tonight and need a shave" type thing. In fact don't do that. It can leave you with blood spotting and red bumps, just like waxing can, so give yourself a night or two to recover.
Step one if you're just getting started... Give yourself a light shave first- don't go close, just a basic, light shave and don't worry about being stubbly. Wait a night. I found that using the epilator for the first time was less daunting and painful on veeeeery short, recently shaved hairs and it gave me time to get used to the device. The tweezers actually go in and grab short stubble, so no need to wait for long length as with wax. Just go ahead and use it on a day or two old shave.
So commit to it. Make sure the skin is held taut and that it's clean and dry. Do expect some pain. I personally didn't find my legs to be very painful at all, but the bikini area...well that does indeed take some determination, especially if you intend to get really bare down there. You just have to work through the pain and make sure you hold all that skin VERY taut and safely out of the way. I went for it on the higher setting and did not bother with the lower speed at all. The result is worthwhile, especially if you get itchy razor bumps like I do from shaving.
Do small areas at a time if you need to. I was basically epilating tiny stubble and was amazed at how LONG the hairs that came out were. This thing seriously does pluck out hair all the way down, so it's effective. Do small sections every day if you need to or go for the whole area at once. You can do it. It gets easier the longer you epilate, and no doubt your body starts producing endorphins in response to the pain. The device is a little bit loud and your hand will vibrate a bit afterward, but I would certainly buy it again. Use it everyday to get rid of various patches of stray stubble as soon as they pop up- after a few cycles all will be smooth and calm.
