Customer Reviews of Braun 5270 X'elle Body System EpilatorCustomer Review: LOVE this thing! Summary: 5 Stars
The Braun 5270 Epilator is a hands-down, fantastic product. Nothing like the eiplators from the 80's (remember those, they could make a grown woman cry). This epilator actually WORKS.
It's a nice size, fits well in the palm and is easy to control, even in the most awkward of places. Easy to clean and store. Long cord makes it pretty easy to use just about anywhere and the little blue "headlight" is terrific for spotting hairs.
Legs: Legs are sooo smooth. It even gets the little fair fine hairs on the knees and thighs. Shaving could never leave your legs this smooth and soft, and waxing requires you to grow hair back before you can be smooth again. Smoothness lasted for five days after the first use, and after two months of use now lasts up to two weeks. Took very little time and pain was a 2 out of 10 (1 being a splinter and 10 being amutation without anesthesia!). Kind of like rubbing your skin with sandpaper. Very little redness or irritation, and what was there was gone in an hour. Seriously, never had legs so smooth, even with waxing.
Bikini area: Unbelieveable! No more painful than waxing (3 out of 10 the first time, minimal after that) and you can customize your grooming. Wouldn't recommend it for maintaining anything as radical as a Brazilian, but you can certainly groom anywhere from a basic trim to nearly bare. Redness and irritation for a few hours, use a good antisceptic finish and a bump preventer if you're prone. And the result is again, so completely smooth!
Underarm: Never shave again! Again, no more painful than waxing, and like waxing, the more frequently you do it, the less there is to do. Pain the first time is probably a 4 out of 10. No stubble, minimal redness and irritation.
I've waxed the above areas for many years, and this product does a better job. You can touch up whenever you please, and there is no waiting for complete regrowth before grooming. Regrowth lessens within just weeks with consistent use. Super convenient and paid for itself in one use (versus the cost of waxing).
Wish I had stumbled on this even sooner!
Customer Review: good bye shaving!! Summary: 5 Stars
Starting in 6th grade I got teased for having very thick, dark hair on my arms and legs and have been self conscious about it ever since and I am now in my mid-40's. For years I bleached the hair on my arms and two years ago I "splurged" on laser hair removal as I was standing up in a wedding. This epilator does as good of a job as the laser treatments and is MUCH less expensive. I am so sold on this product!! The first time you use it I would recommend using the shaving head that comes with it to get hair to the appropriate length. Yes, it's going to hurt (it's pulling your hair out by the root for heaven's sake, what do you expect?), but it is so worth it. I would also recommend applying some aloe after the first few uses to cool the skin. I have a pretty low tolerance for pain and didn't find it that unbearable especially after a few uses. I've been using it for about 6 weeks now and am having to use it less and less frequently because the hair isn't growing back and when it does it is much finer and lighter. The light is very helpful but if you can do it in the daylight or under flourescent lighting, that will help as well. You will be shocked to see how many hair follicles you really have -- I never knew there were so many on your kneecap! There is no way shaving can do justice to removing hair decently (or semi-permanently like the epilator does). Your skin will also feel amazingly soft as also gets rid of dead, dry skin cells as you're using it. I haven't been brave enough to try the underarm area and would be VERY hesitant to try it on facial hair. I have had a few ingrown hairs but knew to watch for them so was able to take care of them right away before they got too bad. I don't find the noise obnoxious -- when I used it the first time my family asked what I was doing and I just said "shaving my legs". They are used to hearing my husband's electric shaver and this is only slightly louder than that -- not a big deal. I only wish I would have found this product years ago; would've saved a lot of aggravation, knicks and cuts and razor burn. Love this product and HIGHLY recommend it! Ladies, do yourself a favor and get this -- you deserve it!!
Customer Review: Better than Waxing, but not completely painless Summary: 5 Stars
I have been waxing ever since i could remember but with the busy schedule it was damn difficult thing to do. One of my friend suggested me to use epilator and after lot of research and reading hundreds of reviews i bought Braun Silk Epil Xelle epilator. Like every product, this has its pros and cons which i am listing below:
Positives:
- For those who have been used to waxing and have good growth of hairs this is the best product. It is much better than waxing as you dont have to wait for full hair growth and you can remove even smallest hair.
- The smart light is very useful as it highlights any areas that you can skip even during daylight.
-Its best for Legs and Arms and its much easier, cheaper than waxing. Saves a ton of money
-Hairs are completely removed and your skin looks as smooth as waxing and regrowth is also slow compared to shaving.
-Eventually Ingrown hairs also are reduced, if you implement and read the instruction manual, which gives you tip about removal of ingrown hairs.
Negatives:
-Truth is it is bit painful, I would say slightly more than waxing. Thicker the hair, more the pain. So the trick is use shaver attachement for thick hairs trim them a bit and then use the normal hair removal attachment. This is just first time, once you get used to it, you will just feel it normal.
- Dont try straitaway in sensitive areas like under arms and bikini, it will hurt a lot. Use them on legs and hands if comfortable try slowly on other areas.
- It is not cordless and is bit noisy you have to station yourself at some place to use it. But i beleive battery powered wouldnt work at such speed so its ok.
-After hair removal, put on some moisturiser or body lotion to prevent bumps.
The trick to use this product in best way is dont wait for the full grown hair, just keep on removing as and when they grow. I have loved it and am much releived after buying this product as i can do it on my own convinience and especillay dont have to wait for the "rgiht time ". So best for busy women.
Customer Review: The thoughts of a seasoned epilator Summary: 5 Stars
Most of the reviews on here seem to be written by people using an epilator for the first time - all "it hurts" and "it's noisy" so I thought I'd add a review from someone who's epilated for years and tried several different models. After 4 or so years my emjoi optima needed replacing, one of the heads simply stopped turning. It had served me well so I nearly just bought a replacement but decided I'd see what else was out there. It seems the Optima is still a top pick but the Braun range consistently got great reviews. The 5270 wasn't the highest rated overall but I know I don't need cooling mits, easy start kits, or a range of heads and at just under $50 I figured it was worth a try even if the light seemed an unnecessary gimmick.
Initial impressions, nice size, fit well in the hand. The blade head arrives with a sort of guard with 2 rollers on it, apparently to kneed the skin and reduce pain. Don't waste your time, it just decreases the hair removed on each pass; swap it for the other guard. I really like this attachment, it makes it easy to keep the epilator at the perfect angle on your skin and it made light work of deforesting my legs (in the name of research I left them untouched once my optima failed). This brings me to the light. It annoyed me there's no way to switch it off but I quickly found out it's actually very useful, especially when there's serious hair to remove, it really highlighted what was left on each pass, without the need to stop and run my hands over my legs to check. Overall I got a better result than with my old optima and in less time which surprised me. I did my underarms too and found it easier to maneuver than the optima although a little more painful but I think that's down to having shaved for the last few weeks. It's also no noisier than other epilators and the power cord is a decent length. Comes apart easily for cleaning and as the guard comes off getting the blades clean is simple. In fact the only downside of this is that there's no cover for the head. I'd have preferred that to the bag that was included.
Overall a highly recommended buy, I just need to see how it stands up over time.
Customer Review: Bye bye razors Summary: 5 Stars
I'd never used an epilator before, nor had I ever waxed my legs or underarms. But I really got sick of shaving constantly and dealing with stubble and cutting my ankles, etc etc etc, so I thought I'd give this a try. I listened to the advice of other reviewers and it helped a lot! So I'm passing on their advice and a few tips of my own:
1) Use Veet or Nair for a good two or three weeks before your first epi use. I found it softened my hair and made it easier. I still use Veet every now and again to wipe away lighter thigh hair and thinner leg hairs. Can't believe how great it works after using the epi for two years! (Veet works much better if you first dampen your legs with a hot washcloth to open the hair follicles and soften the hair.)
2) Enjoy a glass of wine (or two) for the first epi. It does hurt, but just remember it will never hurt as bad again on your legs.
3) After two years, I barely even feel it on my legs. And the hair is WAY finer, comes in slower and lighter. Even with longish hair on my legs, you can barely see it or feel it...and I'm a brunette. I often do epi touch ups while watching tv. Remember, hair grows in cycles...a touchup every few days works great and goes faster than leaving it all for one hairy removal.
4) I use the epi on my underarms...it's a little less painful after two years, but it still hurts (especially near my period). For underarms, make sure you stay dry or you'll get a skin irritation! So apply deodorant or powder before using the epi on underarms. Much less irritation than shaving and hair comes in finer.
5) I tried to epi my bikini line and it was just too dang painful. Better luck to you!
6) For ingrown hairs on leg, I use a disinfected pin to lightly pop them out before using the epi.
7) I tried in grown hair serums and tea tree oil, etc., but eventually just stopped using them because they didn't work for me. After two years of using the epi, I barely get irritation anymore anyway. But a helpful hint to avoid exacerbating any irritation, avoid putting on lotions or cremes for a while after you epi.
