Customer Reviews of Braun 5270 X'elle Body System Epilator

Customer Review: A great device for what you pay.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been waxing and plucking for years now, but was always afraid to try an epilator. Due to my busy schedule I found I had less and less time for waxing. I don't have the money to lay down for a professional wax every time I need it (though I do get my eyebrows done every once and a while). After reading all the positive reviews for this device I decided to give it a whirl.

All I can say is: Wow! I never knew hair removal could be this easy. To break things down..

Pain Factor: As insensitive as this sounds, some people are just wusses. They also make the bad decision of tackling a forest on their legs instead of trimming or shaving it first. Epilating is not like waxing. If your hair is really long, trim it short or shave it first. It will definitely cut down on the pain and make far less of a mess. Yes, there will be some pain. If you're just starting out I highly recommend to shave the areas you are going to epilate first, then use the device everyday so you can get use to it. To describe the sensation, it's like a slight pinch when it's pulling out hair. If you plan on tackling your armpits, for the love of all that is holy.. shave them first. Then slowly work your way up. Same with the bikini area. To be honest I find waxing to be far more painful than epilating (if you're doing it right!).

Ease of use: When I first opened the box I was a bit overwhelmed by all the attachments. That quickly passes though, after a glance at the book. There's an epilation head and a shaving head. There are also several parts for each. This is where I think the value of this device comes in. You can shave, trim AND epilate with it. Good deal, if you ask me! I can take care of all my personal grooming needs with one device. Some people complain about the cord being short, I don't find this to be the case. It's plenty long for me.

Cleaning: Taking the device apart is fairly easy. You can use the soft brush to swipe the hair off, or maybe blow it out with some canned air. It comes with it's own storage bag, big enough to fit all the attachments and the cord in. It's opaque and cannot be seen through.

NOTE: Ingrown hair. I haven't had any issues with this, but I know some people do. My advice is to exfoliate regularly, with a good shower poof or loofa. Exfoliating bodywash is helpful as well.

All in all, I really love this epilator. I will never go back to doing anything else again. It's a great value and makes things quick, easy, convenient.

Customer Review: Great for legs and more!
Summary: 4 Stars

Let me just say first, that if this didn't hurt at all, nobody would be using razors to achieve a smooth leg. Yes, the first time I used it, it did hurt some, but it was nothing I couldn't bear at all. I have never waxed my legs before either, and find waxing very painful, so that gives you an idea of my tolerance. However, the second time I used it, it was much less painful, literally more than 50% less painful than the first time. I will say one thing, use this at least a DAY BEFORE you want to have smooth legs, because it left me with little pink dots all over my legs. Those were also not as bad second time around. Anyway, down to the other aspects:

The device overall - The design is great and fits in my hand very comfortably. I wish it could be charged so I could use it as a cordless device, but I don't mind plugging it in and sitting on the floor for a little bit. I also really like the light on it, which from the pictures looked useless, but really help you see all the hairs. I also like the little bag you can store everything in, it makes it easy to cary around.

The Attachments - I definitely recommend the epilator head with the massaging things for the first time around. It helps distract from the pain a little bit, and also helps pick up little hairs wanting to stay on your leg. The second Epilator Head without the rolling massage things worked great the second time around and was good for getting it done faster. The Shaver works well too, it made my legs pretty smooth and I used it on my under arms as well. I haven't used the trimmer attachment so I can't vouch for that.

The effects of this device were overall great. Yes, it did miss some hairs the first time I did it, but it didn't matter because some hairs grow in at different times, so I did have to epilate like a week after my first go. But even if there are a couple little strays hanging around, they are the finer hairs and your legs still appear very smooth. I will definitely keep on using this product knowing now how much the pain reduces the more you use it. It does hurt significantly more behind the knee, and other sensitive areas, but that will get better over time. If you are looking for a good option other than shaving to keep your legs looking great and getting rid of other unwanted hair, I definitely recommend this. It does not seem like a crappy little electronic that is going to die out anytime soon, and I'm excited to keep using it and see the results! Very Happy with this purchase!

Customer Review: best hair removal system I've ever used
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to wait a while to write this review, so that I'd have an accurate assessment of my experiences. I've owned my Braun for about six months now. I bought it because I hate shaving, chemical hair removers have a horrendous smell, and even though I enjoyed the results of waxing, I didn't like the process. It was messy, awkward and time-consuming to do myself, or expensive to go to a salon.

It did hurt the first few times I used it, but I got used to it quickly. I would say it's slightly less painful than waxing, and a good deal more comfortable because I can use the epilator by touch on areas I can't see terribly well. I recommend holding the skin taut where ever you can, especially sensitive areas. This gives better results and makes the process much less painful.
The results were only ok at first. My skin was blotchy a red after the first few uses, and I can only describing it as itchy. I kept wanting to rub my legs. After a few weeks of consistent use, this went away completely. Each use caused less irritation, took less time and if I for some reason I can't use it for a while, I get less regrowth. After a couple months, my skin was smoother than the results I got with shaving.
I've been using it about every other day and at first I did notice more ingrown hairs than I get with waxing (though not nearly so many as with shaving). I countered by ex-foliating every other day with a scrubby sponge and using the Azulene Oil that came with my Parissa wax to help sooth and moisturize my skin. This did the trick. You could probably use any moisturizer but I like the oil a lot because it's scentless.
Parissa Azulene Oil Aftercare, Soothing & Moisturizing 2 fl oz (60 ml)

There are a few negatives. The light cannot be turned off/on independently of the epilator. It's a minor annoyance, but it would be nice for spot checking. It is also loud, particularly on the higher setting (which I prefer). The shaver head this comes with is useless. I tried using it for trimming as well and had better luck using an old electric razor with an attachment. I also do not recommend using this on hairs longer than a quarter inch, it's incredibly painful.

All in all, I really like this epilator. It works beautifully, the results are great, they last a long time and it's easy to use. All the benefits of waxing and none of the mess!

Customer Review: You will NEVER shave again.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best product in the world.

Looks like a torture device? Yes.

Feels like one the first time you use it? Absolutely.

Continues to feel like one forever? NO WAY.

I've been using this now for a couple of months and do not even FEEL it on my legs. I have to remind myself that it actually DID hurt the first time I used it. My legs are SO smooth. They stay smooth for so much longer, and the hairs are teeny and soft now. Also, I have fewer hairs growing back. My husband told me yesterday morning that my legs were "SO smooth!" (and he rarely comments on such things either way). The funny thing was that the hairs that WERE there had been allowed to grow out to 1/4 inch!

I have the kind of hair that is SO DARK and THICK that even when my legs were freshly shaved and perfectly smooth you could see the dark little hairs through the skin. No longer! They are GONE!

Follow the other reviewer's instructions pertaining to how to start epilating and you'll be golden.

Also, it is possible to do you bikini area. Pop some Ibuprofen, give it an hour to settle in, and use Gigi's Numbing Spray (Amazon or Sally's) and give THAT a good three-five minutes to settle in. It will still hurt a lot, but be bearable. And it's WORTH IT! Best bikini line hair removal out of all the products I've tried (wax, shave, Nair, Magic Powder). LONG lasting. Same goes for my underarms (you could REALLY still see the hairs even on smooth skin there before the Epilator), but less painful than bikini lines.

Yes, you will get ingrown hairs. As long as you use a strong exfoliating sponge (I found a great super-rough cloth one at Wal-Mart for cheap) you'll be fine. If you still have trouble do what I do and use an Acne Cleanser on the exfoliating scrubber. The medicine in the Acne Cleanser helps to remove dead skin cells. Keep your skin well moisturized too. Dry skin = dead skin which = ingrown hairs.

Cost an issue? Just imagine how much you spend on razors, shaving cream, depilatory cream, waxing... and then think of spending sixty something dollars once and never having to buy that stuff again. This is the best model I've ever used. No need to spend more money.

I recommended this product on my blog and got two of my friends using it regularly, and they got two of THEIR friends using it regularly. Stick with it and you will NEVER be sorry.

Customer Review: Works Very Well For the Purpose It Is Intended to Serve!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Braun 5270 Epilator does a great job at doing what it's supposed to, pulling hairs!

For everyone that complains that it hurts, well what do you expect? Honestly?

It's tweezing the hairs out of your skin many at a time...is this supposed to feel good?

I bought this for my girlfriend and she loves it. At first she said it hurt, but then she took it like a champ and didn't stop until she had done both of her legs. I tried it on my chest and yes it stings a little at first, but unless you have no tolerance for pain you'll get used to it pretty quickly...and bottom line, it does its job quite well.

Pros:

Pulls the hairs out by the root so you have smoother skin for a longer period of time versus shaving.

Less messy than waxing.

Better than shaving because your hairs won't grow back as thick, which may happen if you shave often.

The white LED light on it helps you see those stray hairs.

Gets your skin silky smooth.

Comes with the shaver head and small cleaning brush, which comes in handy.

Cons:

It can result in ingrown hairs, so if you are prone to ingrowns, it may not be the right product for you.

It's slightly loud, but not enough to really drive you crazy. Sounds maybe a little louder than an electric razor.

It stings...but that's to be expected...suck it up if you want the results.

Sometimes it can pinch the skin...you have to watch how hard you press it against your skin, and be careful if using it on areas such as your toes, it can pinch enough to scrape off the top layer (I found this out the hard way).

It can't be used cordless, and many say the cord is too short...for some people they may need to use an extension cord if they try to use it in a bathroom without a nearby outlet.

Sometimes you'll have to go over the same area multiple times and it may miss some hairs, but for the most part it gets the majority...it's not perfect, but 9.5 out of 10 for effectiveness.

Bottom Line: If you want the results of tweezed-smooth skin, get this product. It does what it's supposed to. And for those people who buy this and then complain that it hurts...don't come writing bad reviews about it just because of that...you knew that going in!
