Update - I got Braun's newest model (9595) for Christmas 2007. It is improved, and the improvements are worth it. Fortunately it still uses the same cleaning cartridges as prior models.Below is my original review of the 8595:
You often get what you pay for. In this case, it's true. I had been using a Braun 7500 series for the past 4 years and was quite pleased with it since I have sensitive skin. My son now needs his first razor so I gave him that one and treated myself to the new, top-of-the-line Braun. I was a bit apprehensive because I read some less than stellar reviews but I should have considered the source - obviously inexperienced men who did NOT wait at least three weeks to give their face time to adapt to the new razor as per the instructions. Also, one person panned the razor because of the loud cleaning system. Get a life! The Brauns are the ONLY electric razors with a cleaning system, and it could not function unless the razor is running during the cleaning process.
The razor is much better than the previous model in every way, and the prior model was the best out there at the time. Excellent, smooth, close shave. Electronics are better, too , as far as the display. Better cleaning function, and there is now a display of how much cleaning fluid is left.
I strongly recommend this razor without any reservations, if you can afford it.

It is hard to reach an agreement on shavers because every face skin is unique, making shavers to perform differently for different customers.
This is my third Braun; I bought my first one in 1996, the second one in 2001, and this one in 2005. The second one, a 6510, still works, and I alternate it with the 8595. It's really hard to tell the difference between the shaving of these two models, I mean, both of them work very fine, with a litle advantage for the 8595. I must also say that the 6510 performs exactly as well as the oldest one, of which I don't remember the model (it had an all-aluminium case with an array of rubber dots and two color LEDs). Before my first Braun, I used a very old rotative Philishave I inherited from my father, after he changed to Braun.
I'm beginning to think that Braun's is the best shaving system available, and that it has been so for decades. However, it is not perfect, at least not for me, since my skin is kind of sensitive, and if I shave thoroughly with the electric shaver it gets irritated. I must shave half the way with the shaver and the other with a Gillette Mach 3. That's the best combination I've found over the years. I can't shave thoroughly with the Gillette either.
My conclusion is: if your skin is not that sensitive, this shaver, or maybe any Braun, will work pretty fine for you.

I have discovered a universal truth that no one has ever taken the time to tell me about shaving: settle for mediocrity. Your face does not have to feel like a baby's butt.
However, if you want it to, this razor can do just that.
I have always had trouble with shaving; entailing constant razor burn and acne. I was a blade guy because when I took the trouble to shave I wanted it to be close. Well this razor gets close and the foil prevents the common mistake of shaving too close. My razor burn healed in a few days. It only took about a week for me to adjust completely to the razor and become a true convert.
I used to dread shaving and thus tried to avoid it. I would knick and cut myself literally hundreds of times, but I look forward to shaving with this thing. It leaves my face feeling tingly, but definitely not cut to shreds. I use it every single day and everybody who knows me notices that I look better.
The razor is also very hygenic. The automatic cleaning it gets every day can only be good for my skin. The razor head smells like lemons after a cleaning and it is very refreshing.
Moms, buy this for your sons. Girlfriends, buy this for your boyfriends. Sisters, buy this for your brothers. Grandma, buy it for grandpa. You get the idea. It is great!!!
Customer Review: The best shaver on the market

I have used many different types of shavers and manufactures in the past 45 years and with each I have returned to the trusty old blade razor. However this time I can say that I have found one that will continue to provide a close shave without burning your face with constantly running the shaver back and forth trying to get those stubble that just won't make their way into the cutting head. I have now used this razor for almost a year waiting to provide an accurate review for all to refer to. I say this as the reviews here were, in most cases less than good. I find that the cost of the cleaning fluid to be negligible as well as being probably the reason the performance has been so good. I say this because if you wait for Amazon to have a sale on it the cost is only $4.00 each and when you clean daily you feel like you are shaving with a new shaver each and every day. I did try to do as some have suggested in these reviews, the method of cleaning the shaver every other day or even longer between, and can tell you that you use no more cleaning fluid doing it every day and the oils left in the razor without cleaning makes it provide a less than normal performance.
I hope this helps some of you in your decision of purchasing this item especially at such a high end cost but it is really worth it.

This is a great razor. I have a cowlick on my ghotee that is a nightmare to shave, but a couple passes from this and I'm good.
Also, I am in a unique situation when it comes to shaving. I had some reconstructive jaw surgery some years ago that left me with a damaged nerve in my lower face. As a result I can't shave with regular blade razors because the feeling of pain in my jaw area is amplified from the nerve damage. As a result I have to use an electric razor which doesn't pull at the hair as much. This razor was the perfect solution because it gives the closest shave I've had so far with an electric razor.
A very nice perk to this razor as well is that when it cleans it smells incredible. I feel like I'm shaving with aftershave already on.
About the only downside I can think of is that the cleaning cycle is loud. I think the clean cycle is based on the amount of battery left as well. So it assumes a certain degree of use based on it's battery. Regardless, it is loud when it cleans. But that's not a big deal for me 'cause I just clean it after I shave in the morning so I'm at work while it's going.
I deffinitely recommend this razor to anyone needing a good clean shave. It's the best I've found so far in the world of electric razors.
