When I first got this product I expected there to be some pain, as I have waxed before and I also pluck my eyebrows so I know what it feels like to have all your hair ripped out all at once. But I was quite surprised after I did it for the first time, it hurt but it wasn't terrible, just felt like well having each hair ripped out which is what it does. After that it has gotten much better, hurts alot less and the hair grows back slowly and much softer and less noticeable. Though only once an awhile my legs will be really soft but for the most part they never really feel soft. Maybe lotion would helpt after epilating, I haven't tried it yet and I've had this product since January, but with the warm weather just starting I might try some lotion to see if it helps. But all in all it works great, I go over my legs maybe once a week to get the hair that wasn't long enough the first time, the results for me last a couple of weeks then I have to do it again. My hair has always grown back very fast though, so results may be different for everyone. But this is a great product for the money spent, my mother is thinking of buying one as well! I thought a review from a male user might prove useful, as if this thing can manage male leg hairs, it could probably handle anything. I tried it with some consternation regarding the pain levels, (having heard of earlier products that apparently felt like having hot pokers jabbed into your legs). Fears were unfounded.
I am not sure about the relative comfort of the machine, but I found the experience relatively low in pain. I found that starting at the edge of the area to be removed helped a lot, and just gradually moving deeper and deeper into the area as the hair comes out. It worked for me rather well. Even areas that are quite sensitive were little problem once I worked this out.
The results were very good, actually. The was no hair left over, except bits about the knees, (but I got them as well once I worked out how). I found moving the thing too fast over the skin or pressing too hard reduced its effectiveness, as well. Something to watch for.
Overall, as a guy, I found this thing to be very good. I was very pleased and thought it was a fantastic alternative to getting into the razor every other day.

This is the first epilator that I've tried, so I didn't know what to expect. Yes, it was painful (and I do have a tattoo-it was kind of similar in a way). I had to take a break when I switched legs! I figured I would get used to it, and even though my legs still felt stubbly I know that hair grows at different rates and figured I would get it next time and that it would be worth it if I had to shave less. My legs were red and kind of angry afterwards, but it went away. I used the epilator again a week later, and same thing-super painful, still felt the stubble. Skip ahead a week, and my entire leg is filled with itchy, painful, ingrown hairs. I've been in an exfoliate/bactine/lotion routine for a few days, and it's getting better, but my leg looks like it got attacked with needles! The hairs are finally growing out, but it's still painful.
Take home message: it's not worth it! I NEVER got smooth legs with this product, and I'm dealing with the painful aftermath weeks after sending it back! I will be so happy when all of my little ingrown hairs grow out that I'm thinking of embracing the hippie look for a while. ugh.

After my old faithful 10 year old Phillips Satinelle broke, I did a lot of research before buying this baby from Amazon. No shaver for me, thanks, just the epilator. When you have dark and somewhat coarse hair on your legs, shaving is the last thing to do- you get itchy stubble and have to shave daily. I must say the Silk-epil has been working admirably. The roller/massager gizmo does work to deaden the pain. My old Satinelle hurt like crazy but I kept thinking you have to suffer for beauty, right? Well, there is a LOT less suffering with the Silk-epil. But beware, if your skin is dry the massager beads will leave faint scratch marks. Exfoliating and moisturizing is important when you epilate, but it's good practice to do it anyway. Since the epilator removes hair from the roots, even the hairiest among you should be able to go for at least 3 weeks between sessions. It takes significantly longer than shaving, but trust me that it is well worth it.
The epilator comes with a carrying case and cleaning brush. Clean everything scrupulously to protect yourself from any infections. It should last for years with good care.
Customer Review: Effective Hair Removal

This product is surprisingly lightweight and easy to use. It efficiently removes a majority of hair from the root. It's time consuming and requires you to go over the same area several times before all the hair is removed. I recommend going over a small area at a time and making sure all the hair is removed before moving to a new area, otherwise, you will just have to end up going back. My skin is somewhat sensitive yet, to my surprise, I did not experience any red bumps. The removal of the hair is uncomfortable but not painful. The more you use the product, the more the skin gets accustomed to the discomfort. If you don't like the mess and expense of waxing, this product will serve as a great replacement.
Overall, I recommend this product to anyone who has purchased epilators in the past and to those who are trying it for the first time. This was my first epilator. Those of you who are first-timers, I recommend you give this product a try and put your scepticism aside. I think that after you get used to using it, you will be sold on it and even recommend it to your friends and family as I have done already.
