I Used the Braun Activator series very intensively ( the 8585 ) for almost a Year and a Half. The Jump to the 360 was out of necessity since the Razor head had stopped working evenly.
The 360 Charged up quickly, and gave a quick and smooth shave. As much as I thought of the Activator and how it was Good, the 360 was just a leap forward. It had a different and better head for shaving, and it was quieter. I could actually listen to the radio in the morning and shave quietly. The 360 has the best technology, it even has a warning light for when the Blade and foil needs to be changed. This is a must have for any Braun shaver user. Its a great boon to me especially with my thick beard, and sensitive skin, something the 360 takes good care of as it did with the activator.The difference in the blade is visible( the 360 blade looks better), and when used , the difference is tangible.Even the cleaner( shaped the same as the 8585 ) has a better stepped cleaning range so the process works better.

Well, I do like the braun 8985. It does a job. Picture if you were going real quick with your razor and you would have the quality of the braun. It isn't nearly as close as a razor, but it gets there. If you move to fast with it, you will have patches that are stubby.
My biggest advice is to follow the direction that it comes with. Shave BEFORE showering, I did not do this once, and it wasn't nearly as close of a shave. I am content with this, unfortunatly, i still have to use my norelco on my lip to get a close shave, even with a regular razor. But I am content with the Braun 8985 because if i don't feel like spending the 15 mins to use my razor, i can use the braun, and it works just about as good as a quick razor shave.
Anyways, overall it is a great product, but definitly does not deserve the credit that everyone is giving it. Follow the directions on shaving this thing, they say it takes about 3 weeks for your skin to get use to the shave.

The quest for a new shaver was not an easy one for me. I've been a Braun customer for years, but my previous Braun shaver wasn't treating my face that well. My beard/stubble/growth is of the really tough, scouring pad variety. In contrast, I've got semi-oily, dry and sensitive skin on my cheeks and neck (I know it sounds hot, but ladies, I'm taken). My previous Braun shaver was leaving me feeling like I had just mowed my face with lawn tractor outfitted with a front-facing flamethrower. And while my checks were smooth, my neck hairs weren't cut and my skin looked like I got in a fight with a blender. Upgrading to the 8985 solved all of that. My skin feels great after I shave, primarily because it's not burning or bleeding. It gets my stubborn neck hairs. It cleans itself -- joy! It feels light in my hand and easy to maneuver. The trim feature actually works quite well. I considered one of those shavers with the orbiting shave heads, but decided to stick with what I know and am glad I did.Customer Review: better than average shave

With sensitive skin, I couldn't shave everyday with a dual-blade disposable razor. I wanted a razor I could use daily in the shower, but my wife surprised me with this one - and overall I'm happy. The manual recommends shaving without lotion or water as they swell the skin, and although I was initially put off by this, it actually works and results in minimal irritation. I just wash and moisturize afterwards. The self-cleaning base is great, as it indicates how much cleaning is necessary (four levels of whisker clogging dirtiness), and another indicator lets you know when to change the alcohol-based cleaning cartridge. The only thing I wish is that it gave a closer shave. For areas where hair grows in one direction, the shave is closer, but for those complicated non-conformist folicles, too many go-overs with the razor can irritate the skin. Again, overall I'm happy - and you can't go wrong with having to replace the foil/blade every 18 months. Better than some others out there.Customer Review: For me the best so far and by far!!!

I've got sensitive skin, shaving with razors (Gillette etc.) irritated my skin to the point I wasn't able to shave more than once every approx. 5 days. I used another Braun shaver before but I couldn't get a close shave with it and my skin was "burning" after each shave for a few hours. Before buying the Braun 8985 I said to my wife: "If this doesn't work out I'm not getting any shavers in my life and I'll just suffer through the rest of it." Well, the first shave didn't impress me at all, the second was better, the third even better and so it continued to the point where I actually look forward to shaving now! No skin irritation AT ALL, I get a shave almost as close as with a razor, and I can shave every day (but I choose to shave every other day)! Give this shave a chance if you're like me, I know it's not on the cheap side (in my home country of Slovakia it sells for about $250 though!!!) but I don't regret taking the risk. So, for me, this is a 5 star shaver!
