I have owned this shaver for two years and it still cuts perfect. I had upgraded to the newer style 9595 and still prefer the 8995 over that model due to ease of use, rock solid build quality and a great cleaning system. I have had zero issues in two years. I shave / use it every day while driving into the office.
The newer 9595 model I have; the trimmer broke. I don't even use that function and one day I found it to be broken. I use the cases always and handle with kid gloves and it just suddenly broke. There's a mechanical issue where it will not retract into the shaver body any more. My quess is a spring let go and has jammed thus preventing the mechanism from closing.
I have had issues with the 9595 where it would not clean and it burns due to higher cutting speed. The 8995 runs cooler, has less vibration, can be held at any angle, shaves at any angle, has a better side trimmer that is lined up with the cutter head for popping a lift and cut type of system, has super long battery time, and produces a more comfortable shave than the new model. I still love my Braun 8995 model and still use it every single day.
Cleaning: This 8995 model / base works the best out of the all three that I have had. This includes the newer 9595 model. The LED remains lit to let the user know what the status is vs. the newer one. The newer one is designed so that all the LEDs go out after a period of non use and, I have had it NOT clean my shaver and nothing indicating whether it had been cleaned or not.
Shave quality: Darn close, easy to manipulate, very close shave, great trimmer and it just works. Really good shave quality. Just as close as the newer one that boasts the improved cutter head. In fact, I find that when going along the length of the cutter head, it really comes in super close. It does take longer to shave as it is a slower speed cutting shaver than the newer one but, both perform equally as good as far as shave quality is concerned.
Summary: Best shaver I have owned hands-down is the 8995. I own three Braun, two Norelcos and the Braun are built like tanks and produce a fantastic close shave. You won't be let down by this older 8995 model vs. the new one. This is based on two years of shaving with this model and one year with the new 9595 model.

This is the first electric shaver I have had in 20 years, and you can forget the olden days. This one is great, and the cleaning system is a bit expensive for refills, but easy, handy and effective. You will never get a shave as close as a blade, but this one gets as close as possible. I have put away the hassle of a blade. Customer Review: Not worth the price

I really like the 8995 razor, it does a very good job shaving. The problem I have, the foil tends to break every 2-3 months. When I add that expense in, it tends to be very expensive.
