Customer Review: Good product, but needs some improvements

Sturdy and easy to use. My 2-year-old kid loves having her temp taken with this thing. In fact she can do it herself.
However, if you take two readings from the same ear in quick succession, the readings can vary as much as 1 degree. That makes me wonder how accurate and consistent this thing is.
Separately, the display is not back-lit, and this is an inconvenience when taking temperatures in the dark.

I have used a few other products and they were junk but the Braun IRT4520 gets the job done. Light weight and easy to use and durable. I like the battery option using two AA's than others who have the small flat disk types. When it comes to my kids health I want to get the information quickly and comfortable as I can. I found that this thermoscan worked so well I bought two of them one for me and one as a gift.Customer Review: Ease of Use

I just purchased this thermometer (4520). I decided to buy it due to the difficulty in using a standard oral thermometer. I find it to be much easier and faster than a standard oral thermometer. It appears to be accurate as measured against a standard oral thermometer and much quicker. It is also easier to read and retains the last eight readings in memory. All in all, I am satisfied with this purchase.Customer Review: Great but not accurate!!

I really love this thermometer except the fact that it is not accurate! I can take it 5 times in different ears, and get all completely different numbers. Then take rectal and have something altogether different!
other than that its very quick, quiet, and built well.
but i had to go with 1 star, since accuracy is this tools only job .. and it fails.

I use this thermometer with my child since he was born. Everything is ok, besides the .5 degree variant as mentioned by another reviewer and also my main complaint would be that it does not have a lighted LCD display. If you have to take the temperature while the child is sleeping the LCD display is too dark to read, you need to see it with a flashlight or something.
