Customer Reviews of BreathKey Keychain Breathalyzer - World's Smallest Breath Alcohol TesterCustomer Review: Good Breathalyzer Summary: 5 Stars
I think this breathalyzer is excellent! The results are right where I expected them to be depending on how much I had to drink. Much better than a DUI!
I have two suggestions for getting an accurate reading:
1. Do not take a deep breath before blowing into the breathalyzer. All that extra air will dilute the alcohol vapor that goes into the analyzer.
2. When blowing into the breathalyzer, try your best to capture the end of your breath. That will give you a much more accurate reading. Think about it . . . it makes sense . . . you would want to measure the alcohol deep in your lungs to get the best results. I've tried it using the first part of my breath one day and got a reading of .056, a minute later, using the "deep lung" air, the reading was .078. Trust me . . . the cops will take the "deep lung" air for the test if you're pulled over.
Customer Review: I'm a drinker... Summary: 2 Stars
I'm a heavy drinker. I bought this unit based on it's reviews for it's accuracy. I'm disappointed. Granted all (I've done my research) commercial Breathalyzers I've researched seem to have their quirks- take a deep breath then blow slowly, don't inhale then blow normally, etc. I don't even know at this point if police breathalyzers can be considered legal, because they all, at least the commercial ones, seem to come down to these rules- you can't consume any alcohol, food, drink or cigarettes within 20 minutes of the test. Now, as I've said, I'm a heavy drinker, and I'm 43 years old, but I've never had a DUI, or any alchol related encounter with the police... but based on this weird 20 minute rule, I'm going to assume that the police can't even give you a breathalyzer test until 20 minutes after they've stopped you... does anyone know if this is what they do?
Customer Review: Very Effective Summary: 5 Stars
We are very happy with the BreathKey. Recently something sobering happened in Sonoma County wine country. A young woman was the designated driver while touring wine tasting rooms and thought she was under the legal limit. She failed to make a turn and killed two elderly women in another car. She had just finished college. Her photos in the newspaper and her statements showed she felt great remorse. But nothing will bring back the two fine citizens killed, and nothing will bring back her years in prison. Buy a breathalyzer for anyone you love. You could be saving multiple lives.
We've used it at our recent holiday parties. People who felt safe to drive, took the test, and especially the women, were often over the limit of .08 alcohol blood level. When they were over the limit, they sat down and visited longer, until they were safe to drive.
Customer Review: Seems likes its doing a good job. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had the breathkey for a month now. I love that it is so small. Its always on my key chain. I don't have to be out somewhere and say, "Oh, dang, I should've brought that breathalyzer with me." It gives a reading to the thousandth and I usually feel like its pretty accurate. It takes a minute to give the reading, so its not that great as a party toy. But if you need it to see if you should drive or not, its good to keep you responsible. (Or keep your friends responsible) Whenever we have people over at our house I just say, "Nobody's driving away till they give it a blow." But you definitely have to wait 15 minutes after your last drink or else it will probably read high. My only complaint is that every once in awhile it says .000 when I know for a fact that that's not true. Its happened to me three times out of probably 30 or 40 tests.
Customer Review: Not as accurate as I would have liked Summary: 1 Stars
Upon receiving this product my wife and I had a little test session and found this to be rather unreliable. While it is cheap and really convenient and small, we would get very different readings on subsequent breaths using the recommended techniques (trying to capture the end of our breaths and not blowing very hard) and, more often than not, in the wrong direction. After we both drank 4 shots and waited a half-an-hour (purely for research sake. . .) only once out of several tries did it correctly tell us that we were over the legal limit - often telling us that we were far under (the majority of the results ranged from .02 to .06). I would suggest going with something a little more accurate and likely more expensive if you are rely on the device.
