We got the pediatric size of this protector for our 2-year-old son that broke his leg during a crying fit. It fit tight enough around his upper thigh that he could easily take baths, but I don't know if I would trust it for swimming. He originally had a full-leg cast, and the length of the protector was about 6 inches longer than he needed - which wasn't really a problem. Eventually, his full-leg cast was removed and a shorter cast (calf-to-toe) was put on. We continued using the same protector, but his calf/knee area was too skinny to make a good seal, so we continued pulling the protector up to his upper thigh to make sure the seal was tight.
All-in all, this was easier than using trash bags & duck tape...so it was worth the cost to me.
