WAIT! Before you buy your next product read this first! The best of the best product I've found is Aveda Men's Grooming Clay, a superior product on short and long hair for men or women. It's not at all greasy, it's got more of a resin feel without stickyness and a pleasant light herbal smell that's hard to detect but fresh all the time. Volcanic clay is firm but soft in the jar, offers tremendous hold and has been around quite some time for a reason - it works! A little goes a long way and even if you use a bit too much, you will not have a slick greasy look. It's a great product to help keep heavier textured hair in place for all kinds of updo's and ponytails whether neat or toussled. It adds unreal volume if you want it. I have alot of medium length very textured bone-straight hair that can defy gravity with this product. I use a building technique that takes less than 2 minutes, and only in the roots - I rub a dime-sized amount in my palms to slightly warm and emulsify it and with fingertips I work the crown first, a little more in the palms and work it in the sides from ears up through the temple area, then a tiny bit more from the nape of my neck to the ears, connecting all of the zones in stages. I then kind of join it all together using my fingertips in the roots on a once over shake it out then style it any way I want. Most of the time, it's in a French Twist with a large clip or hair sticks. Makes a great heightened more sophisticated look with bobby pins, too, but without being overly done. I let sections fall around my face and my bangs look piecey. It washes out wonderfully with shampoo. It's even better on day 2 after sleeping on it and adding just a tiny bit to refresh it. I can clay up and create a great twist in less than 10 minutes! Seriously, you want a great contemporary matte finish look with a bedhead flair, get Aveda Grooming Clay not wax.
