This lip balm does not contain any petroleum products. It is safe enough to eat. I'd actually prefer it without the mint -- but it does the job without feeling greasy. It really moisturizers your lips, even if your lips are severly chapped.
The company hires the handicapped and is very environmentally responsible. They support local charities and help in the community (donating products to homeless shelters). There are frequent stories in the local newspaper about their operation. If you like supporting a good company, this would be one.

Take a piece of beeswax from a honeycomb and try to coat you lips with it; its not gonna work. Burts bees lip balm has too much beeswax in it, its hard apply because the wax is too hard. Yes the peppermint smells cool, but as a lip protectant, i need something more fluid and lasting than this hard wax. And worst of all its very expensive when compared to other lip balms that are easier to use and get the job done better.
Get blistex medicated instead, it has beeswax as it main ingredient and it alot easier to apply, and cheaper too.

I will never again buy ANY other type of lipbalm. The tingy, minty feeling is so very refreshing. Actually, 3 hours ago I put on one quick layer on my top and then bottom lip, rubbed them together, and went about my afternoon. 10 mins ago I sat down to eat lunch and had to actually wipe off my balm with a napkin so I wouldnt be "eating" my balm. It lasts forever, and it is the only stuff that has ever actually HEALED my lips. I went thru winter 2005 without one lip split! THANK YOU BURT!Customer Review: Best Lipbalm on the market

Burt's Bees is a wonderful company that I love to support. This is by far, the best product they make. I have at least 4 tubes of this lipbalm in my house, because you never know when chappiness might set in! The scent is subtle and fresh, and it will leave a pleasant soothing feeling on your lips. After I bought my first tube and tried it, I bought it for my family and friends. You will not be disappointed--After you use Burt's Bees lipbalm, you will not go to another brand.

This is one of the things I would take on a desert island with me. I am in central NC (Burt's Bees is based out of Durham, NC) and this stuff is just as common as Chap Stick here. I have met a few people who have never used it, but never once have a met someone who disliked it.
I will say that once I did purchase a tube and upon opening it it had hardened and turned very white (maybe it was old? this was at a very small mom and pop store), but I returned that with no problems.
