I have owned another type of fireplace fan for a number of years . It had to be given a push when the fire got to about 300 degrees and at times would be difficult to restart if the fire cooled down. The Caframo fan is GREAT. It starts by itself while the kindling is going and but the time I add some bigger logs it is a whirling away moving the warm air around. I am using the new one right to my old one because I am hoping the new fan on the block can teach the old one a thing or two about working. Customer Review: Works well when stove is hot

I think this fan will work great in smaller cabins with smaller woods stoves. This fan was purchased for a larger wood stove in a two story open area. It doesn't really go until the stood is really hot and then the fan works great, but when the stove is coals or just getting started the fan doesn't really turn at all. I have used this fan for 2 years. Operation is nearly silent. Moves enough air to warm the bedrooms at the end of a 3 bedroom ranch style house with no wires or batteries. It does a better job of distributing the warm air than the ceiling fan in a room with standard 8 foot ceilings. I am not sure that it would be that effective in a room with cathedral ceilings.
It may start turning at 100 F but it will not move useful amounts of air with a stove surface temperature below 160 F and works better at 200 F. If you have a dual wall stove or insert, this fan will probably not work properly as the purpose of the dual wall is to reduce the stove surface temperature.
Position is also important. It needs to be placed near the edge of the stove so that cool air is drawn from the room and blown over the hot surface of the stove. It is thermocouple powered which means that it is powered by the difference in temperature between its base on the stove surface and the cooling fins around the fan motor. So the fins around the motor need cool air for the fan to work at its best efficiency.
If you have a classic wood burning stove, this is the stove fan for you. It is wonderful to have a warm house even when the power goes out.

We have a second home with a soapstone stove in the Adirondack Mountains. Our hope with the stove was that it would heat the whole house. It does but ususally takes a day or so to warm the house and its contents once we arrive. This means I need to leave the heat on for a day to warm things up in the winter time. I put my eco fan on the stove as directed right after the stove was lit and within a minute or so, it was spinning nicely. We placed the fan so it faced a notoriously cold spot in the kitchen. We have an open floor plan. The fan quickly spread the heat to the kitchen and even the bedroom beyond! I had the heat turned off much sooner than usual and we even had the ceiling fans on to cool the place down!! It was 10 degrees here last night with a 40 mile per hour wind. Yippee!!! I might need to buy a second one.Customer Review: Works well. Delivery prompt.

Like the fan. Not quite as strong as I had hoped (May need higher temperature than I run my stove.)
But I love it. Apart from heat dispersing it looks great and also gives me a visual reminder if I need to restoke the fire.
