Customer Review: handy lightweight sweeper
Summary: 4 Stars

i picked up the casabella carpet sweeper on impulse, as it's not very expensive and i struggle with keeping clean carpets in a home with dark rugs and two constantly shedding puppy dogs. it's one (rare) impulse buy i'm not regretting. while it can't clean as thoroughly as a vacuum cleaner does, it's a lightweight implement i can leave handy and use on my carpets frequently, helping keep them looking good between vacuuming. it reminds me of terrible old television ads to say it, but it's also a convenient shortcut to a presentable house (you may have seen these ads- worried housewife fretting as she hangs up the phone "my husband just called to say he's bringing the boss home for dinner, but i don't have time for a thorough cleaning and our home looks/smells dingy and musty! but thanks to some miracle product, it's suddenly fresh as roses and no one will know our secret shame!"). the carpet sweeper is no miracle, but if i need a cleaner house in 5 minutes, it's the first item i reach for. the brush picks up stubborn hair surprisingly well, i like that it's non-electric (one less thing to fuss with, not to mention it saves a bit of energy), and i like the spare, sensible, oddly atractive design.
my only complaint is the design of the levers on the base. to empty the collected debris you must push in a flap on either side of the roller brush and shake out the contents. the motion of the flaps is not very smooth, it's awkward to do with only two hands, and before i learned to keep my fingers away from the edges i got them caught painfully. despite this failing, i'm delighted with my carpet sweeper.

Customer Review: Nothing more (or less) than I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I read just about every review on just about every carpet sweeper I could find until I went cross-eyed. As with any product, you never know how much weight to give to the negative reviews (which I always read first).

So I gave up and decided to shop in an actual store for ease of returning it if it was truly a horrible product. I ended up with a Casabella simply because it was the only carpet sweeper I could find after looking in four different stores. (The guy at Lowe's actually said, "Oh yeah! We carried those for years and years. People loved them! No, we don't sell them anymore." Because they needed to make room for the much more expensive powered models, I'm guessing.)

Mine looks identical to this except it's a racy red. Not that color matters, only performance. So far I'm extremely happy with it. I have quite the menagerie of animals, two cats, two ferrets and a parrot, so you can imagine what my carpet usually looks like. After whipping this baby out almost every day for a week, for about five fun-filled minutes a day, my carpet looks as close to new as I could ever hope for without bringing in a pro.

It won't replace a vacuum cleaner, and it can't really handle larger pieces of debris (that are easily picked up by hand), but for the annoying small debris that I would previously only clean up once every few weeks (because I could make a full-time job out of vacuuming this place if I really wanted to), it's perfect. And you can talk on the phone while using it!

Customer Review: 20 Bucks very well spent!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I hate vacuuming! It hurts my back and it's just an unfortunate necessary hassle. But with a house full of messy, fuzzy and feathered pets it's a very regular must! I was planning to get one of those roombas hoping to save me on the frequency of the chore but hearing reports that they break down didn't seem to make my problems any easier. My husband saw a swivel sweeper on TV but I feared it might be another "made in china" electronic susceptible to breakdowns. Remembering those little carpet sweepers from school days I thought this might be a good idea to keep up with the animals. It's a simple minute to assemble, and a few sweeps over floor or carpet and you can see the floor...no crumbs, no fluff, just carpeting. I was really surprised when I went to empty out the canister, another simple task, to find that there was more pet hair, feathers and other crumbs, kibbles and dust than I could see on the carpet! I can't even imagine how this could break which also gives a some piece of mind to know it's there when you need it. The bottom line: it's fast, effective, lightweight, easy to maintain and easy to store. No it won't replace your vacuum or get deep into the corners but it's a real help in keeping things neat, and a welcomed time saver. It has paid for itself in saving vacuum cleaner bags and electricity in no time, but I am especially glad for it having spared my back. A great gadget for households with pets and toddlers, and one I would highly recommend.

Customer Review: Wasn't sure I got the right product...
Summary: 4 Stars

My carpet sweeper has blue trim and a yellow brush cleaner... so at first I thought either I didn't get the right product or I remembered the color wrong. Other than that, I must admit that it really is very handy... recently ran out of vacuum cleaner bags and have relied solely on the sweeper for about a week now, and it is doing a good job. And on my rug under my cat box, which is much like the indoor/ outdoor rugs used in almost any commercial business, it actually picks up better than my vacuum / which is a $1000.00 + vacuum. I have a Pomeranian who sheds fur balls... if you own a pom, you know what I mean... it isn't just loose hair, it is tufts of hair that tend to weave into whatever that attach to, and the sweeper picks up the pom hair. I also have a cat, and it picks up the litter around the box very well... off the rug as mentioned before and then off my wood floor too. So, it is my opinion that this is a great investment - oh, and I forgot to mention you can adjust the height by choosing to not screw in one of the rods... great for little ones who like to help, my 19mo. old daughter got to push it around until she lifted it up and smashed the cat with it - the cat was not amused, but she was okay. Point being, it is lightweight - my daughter is not Bam-Bam - and the sweeper is easy to push.

Customer Review: A must for this housekeeping-impaired dog-owning mother of 5
Summary: 5 Stars

I own this in dark blue, and I am a little embarrassed at how much I love it. Totally concur with the other reviewer who said this is the go-to tool for bringing the house back from the brink in a hurry. No more climbing under the table etc with the broom only to have the toddler jump on the piles of dirt before they make it to the dustpan. Every. Single. Time. And then I give up. But no more! This little sweeper is equally great on rugs and bare floors. (It's not perfect on the sculpted rug in my boys' room, but neither is the big vacuum.) It picks up stuff I didn't even know was there, in a much wider swath that my dustbuster, is quiet, cord-hassle-free, and uses no electricity. And my older kids think it's fun to use! The only thing it has struggled with so far is a large raw-rice spill on hardwood floor-- it pinged a lot of the rice around the room, but picked up a lot too, so at least a C+. While it is a little awkward at first to figure out how to empty the dirt receptacles, once you get it there's no problem. It comes with its own little comb, that snaps on to the handle, to remove hair or string that gets stuck in the roller-- that thoughtful detail was the final selling point for me. You won't regret this purchase!
