Customer Review: If your hair is very coarse and curly, you may want to keep looking

I am a white female with very coarse, fairly curly hair. My hair stylist told me that in order for my type of hair to be straightened, the iron needed to heat up to at least 400 degrees. With all of the great reviews on this flat iron I thought I'd buy it.
I prepared my hair for the best possible outcome by shampooing it with a straightening shampoo and conditioner. I followed that with a straightening product by John Freida, then blew my hair straight using a brush.
It took almost 25 minutes to straighten my hair and I had to go over sections of hair more than once to achieve the effect. When all was said and done the iron did a fairly good job but my hair felt like straw. It did not feel soft nor did it look shiny as in some other reviews (and my hair is not damaged - when I dry it curly it is very healthy looking/feeling).
So, I give this product 3 stars solely for being able to do the job. However I won't be using this iron very much because of the way it makes my hair feel. For those who have fine to medium hair, this would probably work well for you. If I had to do over again though, I'd do more research and purchase something that was meant more specifically for my hair type.

Ok first off I don't usually do reviews. Generally I just purchase and enjoy or throw it away and think what a rip off, however this product is awesome!!! I have naturally curly hair and have tried product after product to achieve straight non-frizzy hair but they all have failed. I have even tried ethic products to get my hair straight and I was left with nothing but a mess. Anti frizz oils left my hair looking greasy and very unappealing.
This product heats up quickly! Watch out! Since I was a skeptic I started this out on the very last setting. All I have to say about that is OUCH!! My fingers!! It didn't damage my hair or anything but it really hurts the tender fingers. Even after i turned it down to about the middle of the dial it still was a little hard on my fingers. But well worth it... Update: 05/02/08 After 3 years this product is still going strong. I don't use it as often as before. I have found some awesome products for curly hair. That make my curls look cool. But when I'm looking for the straight look I grab this iron. It has never damaged my hair and continues to work like a champ!

I have very curly hair, and have only been able to get my hair completely straight a few times in my life. It usually requires lots of smoothing serum, and using one of my friend's pricey Chi straightners. It always takes at least an hour to get it somewhat straight so it's never been worth the effort to me. After finding this one on Amazon, and seeing the price and reading the reviews I had to order one. It arrived in 3 days and I decided to "play" with it that night before going to dinner with my family. To my amazement, it COMPLETELY straightened my hair in about 15 minutes!! I was blown away! I used no smoothing products, and only had to go over most pieces once. I had to go over some of the curlier areas a few times, but I still have NEVER gotten my hair this straight in such a short amount of time! My family was so surprised when I showed up at dinner with smooth, straight hair! It's nice to finally have options for different hair styles after 28 years of curls. I was skeptical of this product but I figured for 35 bucks, I'd take a chance. A few years ago I bought a Conair straightener for nearly 70 dollars and it was worthless, so I was a bit skeptical as I said. However, when I got it in the mail yesterday evening, I plugged it in and I was amazed. I have rather wavy, tough, thick hair. I thought the only way to tame it was a chemical straightening, which I did 2 years ago and it was soooo expensive. I plugged this straightener in and it heated up within seconds. Not minutes, people. The first time I ran it across a bit of my hair, I was shocked. This is an amazing hair straightener and I am sooooo happy I purchased it. It turned my thick hair into something that looked so amazing. I've never seen anything like it. I would highly highly highly recommend this product for anyone who had coarse thick hair, or just anyone who wants straight hair. It's amazing.Customer Review: This flat iron is fantastic!

I have coarse, wavy hair and have battled with it constantly. This is the first iron that does what it's supposed to do. I was initially surprised at how lightweight it is - it won't hurt your arm holding it above your head. The cord is long for easy access. It straightens my hair even when I haven't blown it straight - I don't even have to put it on the highest setting. I use it almost everyday and I wouldn't change it for anything, I am so happy I purchased this product! Seriously, don't waste your money on a Chi - just get this iron and it will work the same if not better. Keep that extra $50 bucks and buy yourself some new clothes instead to go with your great hair! The only downfall is that it doesn't have an automatic shut off, so you must remember to unplug it! I highly recommend this product and would purchase it again in a heartbeat.
