Customer Reviews of Chillow ® Comfort DeviceCustomer Review: "Nothing to get excited about" Summary: 2 Stars
Filled with illusion, I ordered my Chillow convinced from the 5 star reviews that this was the answer to my night time over heating. After trying the "Chillow" I was surprised that so many other users had rated it so high. Unfortunately, the Chillow is better in theory than it is in practice. The Chillow is constructed of vinyl similar to what a water bed is made of. It has a foam pad on the inside that helps evenly distribute the water and was very easy to fill.
I found two major flaws with the Chillow. 1) It is in fact quite crisp and cool when I first go to sleep, but after 3-4 hours, when I wake up the Chillow has absorbed all the heat from my head and shoulders. Thus it is no longer cool! 2) The Chillow is by no means "heavy", but is weighted from the water and crushes/flattens a normal pillow that you might set it on.
I've found the best way for me to use the Chillow is to keep it at the end of the bed, and put my feet on it occasionally when I get hot. While I do get minor relief from it's use, it is not worth the price. It should be no more than $10 for what it does.
Customer Review: Pretty Chill Oh Summary: 4 Stars
I'm a man that overheats easily with most pillows, especially in the summer months with my cold blooded spouse. I've had the chillow for about a year now and overall I'm happy with it and feel I've got my moneys worth after countless nights of sleeping and laying in bed feeling much less hot than I normally would. If I wasn't married, I simply wouldn't turn the heat up so high, but with my beautiful (and cold sensitive) wife that isn't an option. My only two negative complaints are that the chillow sometimes bunches up some nights after tossing and turning, however it seems to unbunch fairly easily (especially if you drain the water out and refill, which isn't as hard or complicated as some reviewers make it out to seem). The other negative is it did develop a tiny hole in it after about a year of use (probably from one of my cats) however some super glue on it has fixed that hole for now (2 months ago, still working fine). Overall very happy. All people who overheat at night easily should buy this, especially those who have a spouse who needs higher heat.
Customer Review: Chillow does NOT deliver on its promise! Summary: 1 Stars
Bought the chillow for my hubby who sweats all night long even with the fan and AC going.
It was a pain in the butt to fill the first time and we had water leakage everywhere when trying to get out the air bubbles despite letting it sit for a full 4 hours as recommended.
He finally started using it to dismal results. It is cool at first but then fades away unless you constantly keep moving it around. (same thing you can do with a regular pillow when you're trying to find a cool spot)
Problem with moving it is that it weighs approx 3-5lbs and slides all over the place in the pillow sack! The product also smells like rubber...yuck! Not pleasant.
I would NOT recommend this to a friend and if I was not so stubborn, I wouldv'e listened to the negative comments before I purchased it and saved my money.
I took a chance and regret it. Don;t be foolish like I was. Don;t bother with the Chillow.
PS- Sorry OPRAH, this is NOT a "favorite thing".
Customer Review: works as promised Summary: 5 Stars
After reading all of the reviews here, I was nervous about ordering my own chillow. I have to say that I am very glad that I did. I have a medical condition that causes me to just wilt in the heat. We live in the desert, so I really need tools to help keep me cool. The chillow has really fit the bill when it comes to staying cool while I sleep. I carefully followed the directions that came with it (they're not hard, but need to be followed exactly), and my chillow has worked wonderfully. It is cool all night long, with none of the leaking or dampness that other reviewers noted. It does have a slight chemical smell that took a little getting used to, but for me the coolness was worth the slight smell.
I can imagine that this would be helpful for people with a variety of conditions, including people who get regular headaches and those going through menopause. I have actually thought about getting another so that I can have one at home and one at work to sit or lean on during the day. I am a fan!
Customer Review: Finally something that relieves hot flashes!!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I was just desperate to get a decent nights sleep. After trying all the usual over the counter medications I decided to give this a try. The set up was easy, just fill with water and let it sit overnight. First I tried the chillow without putting it in the refrigerator as the instructions state is not necessary, but it is!!! Every night I get my chillow out of the refrigerator and stuff it in my pillow case and find it stays cool for at least 5 hours which is enough to get to sleep and stay for awhile. The drawback is that when it loses it's cool it really feels warm and not too comfortable so I end up tossing it aside around 5 in the morning. But then after about an hour or so it's cooled off a bit and ready to use again. Hey, it's far from perfect but the initial cool on my neck and head to help me get to sleep is actually worth it. If you don't expect a lot this product is a nice surprise. I was totally skeptical but now I won't sleep without it.
