It's a nice simple wooden lap desk. Exactly what I wanted. The wood is nicely finished and feels sturdy, but the desk is light-weight and comfortable. The pad is black cloth with what feels like small foam peanuts for the padding. So it forms to your lap nicely and comfortably without being overly hot. I used it for my laptop (Macbook Pro, 15") and the little lip works great to hold the laptop from sliding towards me. There is just enough room (barely) for me to slide it to one side and use my wireless mighty mouse. It also sits steady on the bed beside me so I can set my laptop up on it and watch video or read while laying down.Customer Review: Great for laptop computers...

We didn't buy ours at Amazon, but did buy two of these exact products about 5 years ago to use with our laptops. We have a 15" laptop on one, a 17" laptop on the other. Very sturdy; enough room for a mouse to sit to the side. You can put the pencil ledge at the top to keep the computer from sliding off the end while sliding back in your recliner - or keep the ledge at the bottom and keep a pen handy there. We've each had ours for almost 5 years now, and other than wishing we could add a little more cushioning materials to the bottom now, they are every bit as nice as the day we bought them. I bought this desk for my mother to replace an older lap desk she had. I was surprised how nice this looks in person. The wood has a very nice finish on it; almost a cherry finish. The cushion on the bottom is a nice velvet like material.
This desk is big! It could easily hold a 17 inch laptop. My mom uses it to do crosswords and do her writing. It is very sturdy but not to heavy for her to use.
I gave the desk a once over and didn't see any of the problems some other reviewers complained about. I would definitely buy one of these again. I might even buy another one for myself.

This lap desk is exactly as advertised. It is beautiful and works with my laptop nicely. The construction is also top rate. I especially like the quality of the pad. it is a smooth material that is held in place around the edges with a wooden strip. This was the part that failed on my previous cheaper lap desk...the cushion pulled away from the board.
The unit could be inproved with a non-slip surface. My laptop has rubber feet so is fine. However, when using it with a book or with papers, it is hard to keep them at the tilt I want and write on/in them because of slippage.

I bought this after looking at numerous products(some even by the same company that makes this). I think the lip on the front is great as it keeps the computer from sliding off. Its solid and built well. I wouldn't take it to a war zone, but works great in a living room and bedroom.
I would like to change a few things, but over all its awesome. Its a great buy
I would change the bean-bag stuffing to a foam (prefer memory foam)
I would like to see some type of cooling features for the laptop maybe usb powered or a/c
