Customer Reviews of Col. Conk World's Famous Shaving Soap, Bay Rum (Net Weight 2.25 Oz)Customer Review: A fine shave - a great scent! Summary: 4 StarsOrdered the Col.'s over a month ago, melted it into my favorite mug (via microwave) and have thoroughly enjoyed using it. It lathers well with a silvertip brush (plug for Omni), it stays moist on my face, it smells great and at the rate I'm going I should probably get about 3 months out of it. Thought that the price was a little steep compared to my old standard "Williams" (One Dollar at the local drugstore) but then Williams doesn't smell like Bay Rum now does it! Definately recommend!
Customer Review: Whip it! Summary: 5 StarsI'm a big fan of this soap. Their bay rum is a clean, simple interpretation that is noticeable without being overpowering and washes off when the shave is done. Not too spicey/pastry smelling - more soapy, if you know what I mean. It's glycerine based so you gotta whip it (whip it good) to get the lather up, but it does the job just fine and leaves the skin feeling great. My straight's glide nicely over this. You get alot of soap for the dollar too! Way cheaper than some of the stuff out of the UK and supposedly made here in the US. By the way, it melts in just seconds in the microwave - pour into your favorite container and have at it (after it cools of course)...
Customer Review: great soap, doesnt dry out skin, no tingling Summary: 5 StarsThis is a great shave soap to use with my Merkur DE razor and badger brush. The soap has almond and avocado oil as moisturizers. I am so happy that there is not a hint of mint or alcohol [to my knowledge] in this soap-I really do not enjoy all that tingling or feeling of dryness after shaving. This is good quality soap.
Customer Review: Shaving cream.. gone. Summary: 5 StarsI'm on my 5th or 6th shave with a DE razor, and this soap type. I have used canned stuff my whole life until recently. I have a really nice badger hair brush, and this soap. I shave with the grain, then against/sideways on the grain for my 2nd pass. I can't bare to shave "UP". This soap is GREAT! I have nothing to compare it with, but, it really feels good and smells good too. I am using the bay rum, but, I bought some almond also, they both smell great. The smell lasts for a good bit, but, I've been using some shave balm afterward that overpowers it. I will never go back to canned shaving cream. Shaving is actually comfortable now. Next... straight razor...hmmm..
Customer Review: Not horrible. Not worth it. Summary: 2 StarsThere's just nothing special about this stuff, and it's expensive. Bland and pricey is a bad combination.
I'm using it with the same double-edged razor and kinds of blades I've always used - which is for about 20 years now - and I'm just not impressed.
It lathers up okay, but as I'm using a nice badger brush it's got no excuse not to. Thing is, it's not especially slippery and leaves my face on the dry side. Also, although the scent I got - almond - smelled nice the first day I used it, it didn't last. Since then, no fragrance at all.
My standby, regular soap is WIlliams Mug Shaving Soap, which I've never taken to be especially good or anything. It only cost a dollar, tho, and that's about what it's worth. Unfortunately, that's about all the good Colonel is worth, too. In fact, I've gone back to Williams even tho I have half of the Conk soap left.
Pass this up and try out something else.
