Customer Review: OPK & Pregnancy test did not work for me

If you've read Toni Weschler's book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, then you know that OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) are misleading for a number of reasons (Toni mentions 10 reasons, see p. 148). Despite this, I felt I needed to arm myself with all the available information and technology due to my irregular cycles and my desire to get pregnant. So I purchased these OPKs. As it turns out, I'm one of a "significant number of women who peak (LH surge) below the threshold that the kits actually test."
I used an OPK every day of my last cycle. Every day this OPK said I was not ovulating (NEGATIVE). However, thankfully I was charting both my temperature and my cervical fluid and they both told me that I WAS ovuluating and WHEN. 11 days post ovulation (11 DPO) I took the pregnancy test that came with this package. NEGATIVE. I bought a well-known over-the-counter pregnancy test and it came up POSITIVE. I just got back from the doctor's office today and my blood test confirmed a POSITIVE pregnancy.
Moral of this story: OPKs have several inherent problems with them. Don't waste your money and instead chart your temps and cervical fluid. Get to know your body. Also, ask vendors at what HCG levels they test for. I was able to find this information on the website of the over-the-counter pregnancy test. This product, however, does not label their product with this information.

My husband and I started trying to conceive in May and by July I knew I couldn't take the waiting/guessing game. I ordered these for my July cycle and they arrived promptly. These are dip sticks, so you need to use a cup which I found not be a problem. After five days of testing for ovulation starting on the 10th cycle day, I started getting worried. I didn't get a positive test until the 18th day of my cycle, which was much later than I had thought. I'm not sure if I always ovulate that late because I only had to use these one month and we conceived. I think we had been trying too early on the other months. These are an inexpensive way to help your efforts! I would definitely recommend these if you are ready to be pregnant yesterday. One thing I noticed about the pregnancy test, is that the lines do not show up as brightly as the store-bought brands, so at first I wasn't sure it was a positive. Now it's 12 weeks later and we know we are having twins.Customer Review: Not reliable

Nowhere was it mentioned, when I ordered the product, that it was made in China. Anyway, I have been using similar products from Early Pregnancy Tests (made in Canada) and they're very reliable (got pregnant twice in 1 year using them). I wanted to try those cheaper ones, so I used them in parallel with the Canadian product to compare. They did not always give similar results. I had an ultrasound done today at the doctor's office and got a shot to make ovulation occur in the next 24 to 36 hours, so I came home and used both products out of curiosity. The Canadian product gave a positive result (it should be!!!) and the Chinese one was negative.
Also, be careful, as some sellers use the sentence Early Pregnancy Test to refer to their pregnancy tests, and this is how I was mislead, since Early Pregnancy Tests is also a brand (ovulation kits, pregnancy kits, and other products). Hope this helps!

I had bought both the combo pack of OPK and EPT's and the delivery was earlier than promised....which was right at the time that I needed to see if I was having my LH surge...now me and DH had been every other day trying to conceive and knew it was the week but the OPK still showed a very faint line so either I was just passing my LH surge or it still detected something there...I believe a line is a line....well 10 DPO...I used the EPT...and a faint line again!! I used one every day and now am 20 DPO or 5 weeks prego and am ecstatic....the line has gotten darker and darker that I pee on the stick now and the result comes up quicker than the control line! HCG levels are great....anyway, for the price of these sticks...they are great and worth stocking up if you like to test twice a day and still continue to test to ensure that all is fine. After two clomiphene-induced pregnancies, the latter of the two ending unhappily in a miscarriage, my wife and I were finally ready to try again, but irregular cycles made our wish for another pregnancy quite difficult to achieve. We decided to purchase this test kit and a 10-pack of extra ovulation tests after reading some of the reviews, and we are very happy to report that tests now point to a pregnancy again. We didn't feel that the warnings about the lack of clarity of the results on the ovulation tests was all that justified, the results came back quite clear. Use was easy, the instructions were clear, packaging was good (and in a neutral envelope), and the price was certainly right. So, we would definitely recommend this combination. It saved us from another round of clomiphene quite easily.
