I used this for the first time on a four day camping trip where there were no showers--hot or cold. Going without washing my hair for that long is not my thing, but being the mother of two boys and the wife of an outdoorsman, I do it for them. So, knowing what my situation was going to be this time around, I knew it was essential I have a battery operated curling iron! I'm no hippy gal--I think it's important for a woman to care about her appearance. So, after using this for 3 days, this is my take on it. If you have thick hair, the curling iron is just not hot enough. I had to keep going over sections to get a little curl. My hair is layered and long so it took me a little while. I wasn't even trying for a "style" so much as I was trying to tame the frizzies my hair is prone to. I think this would be ideal for those who have short to medium length hair. However, I was grateful to have it even if it took me longer. The battery life, I thought, was pretty good. I bought extra batteries but didn't need them. My total use was 20 minutes a day over a 3 day period and I used half the battery life. I think this technology is good, but there is definitely room for improvement. Also Conair needs to include a heat proof cover to store it in. But even as it is I would still buy it again.
