I bought this for a trip to Europe, so I wouldn't have to deal with converting the voltage. It's small, but not too small. You can unscrew the bottom half when you're not using it, so it's very portable. Don't know how long the cartridges last, but I would definately recommend this product. Directions say that TSA regulation does not allow the cartridge to be packed on your carry on, so I just packed it in my checkon bag. I bought this because I used it back in the 90's, this is not new, but I loved it, I have only been able to get the smaller size that comes in a little case. I hope it lasts as long as it did many years ago. The smaller ones are great also, I hope I will always be able to get them.. They do need replacing once in a while, nothing lasts forever. I have shopped all over to find a cordless curling iron since I have been travling in an RV all summer and a few days ago I recieved this one. I rate it just OK. I think it is a little chinzy for $25 bucks so I am dissapointed in that respect. I have had conair cordless in the past and where much better quality than this one. Conair Cordless curling iron is a great product. You can touch up your locks anywhere - no need for electricity. If the power goes out, you can still LOOK GOOD!! No problems, except I am looking for one that is smaller in diameter. My hair is shorter now and 3/4" is not as good as the 1/2" would be. I don't think they make that anylonger. I have been using this product (The conair gas curling iron) since about 1990. It is terrific, no cord, you can curl your hair in the car, the RV, on a cruise, in the livingroom watching TV----anywhere. The gas curler is much hotter than the electric and is faster curling. I highly recommend it, it does a great job. Buy one and enjoy. Priscilla
