Customer Reviews of Conair Infiniti Tourmaline Hair Designer (Wine)

Customer Review: Great for quickly drying and detangling, but won't get your hair flat-iron straight
Summary: 4 Stars

I gather from some of the other reviews that the product advertised a straight, flat ironed look. I've never seen those infomercials, so I can't comment on that claim. What I can say though is that the Conair Infiniti does make blow drying my hair A LOT easier and faster. I've used a few other blow dryer/comb attachments, and in every case the attachment has snagged my hair and caused split ends, or it frequent separated from the dryer. I did not have these problems with the Infiniti dryer. The comb attachment stayed firmly in place, and I did not feel as if my hair were being snagged. It did not give me a just-from-the-salon super straight look, but it did allow me to very quickly and easily dry my hair whilst easily detangling it.

For reference, I am African-American/Multiracial and have 4b hair, which is very fragile, thick, frizzy hair with a hard to define spiral curl pattern (think Erykah Badu).

If you are African American or multiracial, it will straighten your hair if used correctly, but certainly not on par with getting it flat-ironed or pressed at a salon. It will, however, make blow drying your hair easier.

I have one note of caution: if your hair is damaged or extremely fragile, then probably don't want to use this on high. The dryer can get very hot, and if your fair is already brittle or damaged the high temperature may exacerbate it.

Customer Review: I love this product
Summary: 5 Stars

I was in the market for a professional salon-quality hair dryer and was apprehensive about shelling out hundreds of dollars for one. I came across this product and decided to give it a try. While it does take practice to become adept at using the attachment, once I mastered it, I really love it!! My hair is longer than shoulder length, in layers, average thickness and fairly straight (it has a tiny bit of body). I use the attachment to create body at my roots by drying the hair sections from the underneath side. The manual and the instructional dvd show the product being used on top of your hair, but if you dry it from the underneath, you still get that straight style, but with a little lift at the roots (where I needed it most). To prevent damage to my hair and overheating of the dryer, I always use it on low heat when the attachment is on. It takes a little longer to dry my hair this way, but the result is absolutely fabulous. My hair is smooth and straight with a little lift at the roots (ala the Rachel look of the '90's). I love the silkiness that my straightening iron gives my hair, but i hate the way it makes it feel limp and lifeless. This product gives my hair similar shine and silkiness, but without the limp and lifeless feel of the straightening iron. I recommend it for anybody with a similar cut and texture. Just remember to use it on low so as not to burn yourself or your hair.

Customer Review: Skip It If You Have Very Curly Hair
Summary: 2 Stars

I have no doubt that this works great for some--specifically those with wavy or slightly curly hair but if you have very curly hair like me (sprial curls) DON'T BOTHER. I have been blow-drying my hair straight since I was about 15 and i'm now 25. I'm very good at it, I really don't find it that time-consuming (it takes me about 30 minutes--my hair is very curly but fine)but when I saw an ad for this, I had hopes that maybe this would be some sort of miracle product that would eliminate the need for a round brush forever! The one thing about very curly hair and straghtening though, is that you need to spend a lot of time on the ends or you'll end up with frizzy ends that look damaged even when they're not. This Conair Hair Designer does NOT facilitate that. You have to hold the ends of your hair as you run the dryer through it, which means that once the dryer gets to the ends and you have to let go, no time has been spent straightening the ends. If you have very curly hair and can relate to what i'm talking about, then just step away from the "order now" button. The attachement piece is supposed to grip hair firmly but it's still not firm enough.

On the plus side, this is fairly light-weight and does eliminate a step if you have fairly straight hair and just need polishing. Otherwise, save your money. I get MUCH better results with a round brush.

Customer Review: Good for the right person.
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw this hairdryer at TJMaxx and purchased it and went home to look at the reviews before I even opened the packaging (beware the packaging is horrible, you will never get the dryer back in like it was!!). The reviews were mixed so I decided to try it.

The DVD wasn't really helpful to me so I just washed my hair and went to it. I have mid-back length hair, thick, and curly.

First thing I noticed is that this is not a product for people with short/shorter hair at all! You really should have about shoulder-length hair at least!

The instructions, reading them helped a lot!, were easy enough and I sectioned my hair (a must!) and started slow. The dryer is heavy to me because I had wrist surgery on my predominant hand so that was not a good thing for me. Also, it takes awhile to get the hang of using the straightening attachment and the angles! I've read reviews about their hair being pulled out badly, in my opinion my flat iron took out the same amount of hair because of how much and long I had to use it.

The drying time, from towel dry, took me about 7 or 8 minutes when it usually takes me about 15 to 20.

The major cons for me is the packaging, the heaviness, and it doesn't quite straighten my cow-lick out front.

All in all I'm very happy with this product.

Customer Review: Please think again!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

My hair is very soft, fine, shoulder length, and just about the curliest hair you will find. My hair is also very thick. I found this product did not straighten my hair and left it 5 times the size it was before in frizz. I have a conair straightener that I abosolutely love so I thought this product would meet my expectations as well. Not even close. It might be however that this drier works better on thin, course hair that's longer. Anyway, here was my step by step process:

1. I got out of shower and towel dried hair. I put in my favorite straightening product and then brushed it through.

2. I pulled the top section back out of the way and put the bottom sections in the dryer.

Let's pause for a moment. Right from the start it wouldn't cooperate. It's difficult to handle and doesn't grip my hair. The hair is just blown right out of the attatchment.

3. Continue, letting more and more hair down while putting it through the drier.

When I was finished, my hair looked horrible. It was frizzy and not strait whatsoever. It looked almost as curly as it did before but 5 times the size in poof!! Later I had to go over the whole thing with my conair flat iron and finish the job and it looks as good as it ever does after I do that.

The only thing that this drier does well is dry your hair.
