Customer Reviews of Conair Ionic Conditioning Pro Style 1875-Watt Hair DryerCustomer Review: Great bang for the buck Summary: 4 Stars
Just got mine recently and wanted to share my experience on the product. First of all, there is two version of Conair's Ion Shine 1875 blower, 146ZR and 146ZDFR. The difference is where the attachment "pipe" is located. On the 146ZR, the "pipe" is located below the blow hole. On the 146ZDFR, the "pipes" are located to the right and left of the hole.
Ok. In terms of the complaints about the buttons being at a bad place, I didn't find that a problem at all. Now, my hands are pretty big (gloves size Large/X-Large). Unless you completely grip around the handle, I don't see how you can accidentally touch the buttons. I usually grip my dryer like a handeshake/golf club. So my thumb is usually in parallel with the handle. As such, none of my fingers goes anywhere near the buttons.
Another complain is about the weight. Now, this blower is not a "compact" blower, so I didn't find it to be that heavy (I would say it is slight heavier that the hotel dryers, but those are just plain awful). I've tested a few blow dryers at Bed Bath and Beyond (including the 18765 Vidal Sassons and Revlons) and found this to be about the same weight as the others.
In terms of air throughput, some people may be misled to think this doesn't blow hard. In actuality, this thing does push quite a bit of air through. Compared to my old Conair and Vidal Sasson (triangle looking one), this bad boy pushes quite a bit of air. The difference is the old blowers are blowing a narrower, but faster stream of air; Whereas this Conair pushes a slightly wider channel of air and not as "fast". So if you blow this at your hand, you'll feel the same "push" as any other blower, except it is not as concentrated. During my hair drying process, I do notice my hair dries a lot faster.
Another reason people might think this dryer blows less air is because it is pretty darn quiet. I've compared this to the Vidal Sassoon 1875 and thought the VS was quieter, but moved less air.
I have not noticed a great difference in hair shininess, but there was a noticeable difference in static. Oh, and my unit DOES come with a Concentrator and a Diffuser (mine is marked as 146ZDFR).
Overall, I am VERY happy with this blower.
Other models I tried at the BB&B store includes:
Vidal Sassoon VS781
Conair 094WBR
Conair 156/157
Revlon 1875....not sure the model number
Customer Review: to Ion or not to Ion!?.... Summary: 5 Stars
I am a guy. I do not wear my hair especially long nor especially short. It is of a texture(fine)that seems to demand I keep it at about 2 - 2 1/2" to be able to do anything with. So I blow dry it. And, yes!...I know what the BDF's are(blow dry frizzies). I actually picked up this hair dryer half on accident. I got tired of hauling the bathroom drier(a non ionized Conair)out to the garage to speed dry various little things I paint. So I grabbed this on the way out of the store...mostly due to it's 1875 watt rating and being full sized. I noticed the reference to Ions on the outside of the box but thought that part was probably a gimmick. So I just bought it on the merits of again, being full sized and 1875 watts. THIS brand new shiny blowdrier would STAY in the bathroom and I would keep the other one in my work space out in the garage.
Okay...so I used it for a couple of days and no kidding, I could really feel and see the difference. Blowdriers show no mercy on fine hair. I'm usually jealous of people with robust hair that seems to shake off bad things. Mine does not. On the other hand, if I am nice to it it is okay. Up till now I have never been able to escape some frizzies(not much as I am careful)and this drier makes a very noticeable difference. I may buy a back up! Just in case Conair gets taken over by unscrupulous warlords(?)
Some have complained about the lesser airflow...quick fix: pop open the intake cap and take OUT that fiber filter. NOT a company recommended modification...but the metal intake screen behind it is sufficient to keep hair out of the unit and that filter probably cuts air flow by about 15%. Just pop open the back once a week or so and clean it. I never keep the fiber filter in blowdriers and have never had one go bad by my taking it out. Takes about 5 seconds to do this and it makes a difference. Nice too that the motor is quieter...so many are used to louder motors that it is easy to think a quiet motor is less air but it really is not so. Especially if you take the fiber screen off the back of the drier.
We all know that on days when your hair comes out 'weird' it just kinda screws up your day. If you buy one of these driers you won't have to wear your 'Bad Hair Day' tee shirt nearly as often! If at all?
Customer Review: Good investment - after several uses I am pleased with performance Summary: 4 Stars
My hairstylist recommended I buy an ionizer hairdryer because it does not dry out hair as much as others. I invested a couple hours researching on line and reviewing the products here at Amazon. In the end, I selected the Conair Ion Shine because it was 1875 watts, was an ionizer, was priced affordably, and the design seemed good.
Now that I have received the item and have had some time to use it, here are my ratings:
STORABILITY: 2.5 stars There is a hanging loop, but the cord is heavy and awkward. The unit is heavy enough that whatever hook one would hang it from would have to be substantially mounted so it would not pull out of the wall. (Wall mounting is not an option for me). Also, after only two uses, the cord has already begun to twist, which is a negative.
VALUE: 4.5 stars I knew the Amazon price was reasonable, even lower than my local discount stores. After I purchased this item, I found the same model at BIG LOTS for a dollar more and in different colors.
PERFORMANCE: 5 stars Dries hair quickly without using high heat temps. Unit comes with a few attachments. The diffuser is really large and awkward to store. The unit has a hinged filter that opens easily for cleaning. The removable filter is the standard small piece of material that I have seen in other high-tech fan devices, including the high-end SmartTechnologies Smart Board in my classroom. I'm figuring the filter material is pretty standard. In my previous hair dryer, the fan did not have a removable filter for cleaning; eventually the old fan clogged so horribly (despite my attempts to brush it out)that it slowed down and eventually killed the unit.
Other note: If a younger child will be using the unit, she may find the unit feels heavy or hard to hold after a while. I suggest looking for one of the smaller, portable units for tweens.
Customer Review: Double Duty Hair Dryer & Baby Soother! Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this hair dryer since 2000, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. This blowdryer is super quiet. I did not notice that it took any longer to dry my hair with this dryer versus my older 1875 watt dryer. I bought it primarily because it advertised the quiet motor.
It is somewhat heavy, but once you get used to it, it is no big deal. I dropped this dryer probably a couple hundred times and it continued to work just fine.
Recently I noticed it was only blowing "cold" air and assumed that the heating element went out. I was going to throw it in the trash. Lucky for me, I didn't get around to it. It is the perfect sleep soother for my now 8 month old daughter. It was just loud enough to break her crying spree and get her focused on sleep, plus, since the heating element went out, we don't have to worry about her/us accidently touching a hot dryer. It is amazing, we turn it on and she immediately plops her head down on my chest and is out like a light in just a couple of minutes!! Wonderful, amazing on those rough days when nothing else seems to work.
I enjoyed this hair dryer so much that I have just purchased two more. A back up for my daughter's restless episodes and one just for me!
Customer Review: STILL GOING STRONG :-) Summary: 5 Stars
PROS: I bought mine in 2005 and it still works great! I used to have long hair at the time. It dried my hair quickly and my hair felt smooth. I have long since lost the diffuser attachment & the concentrator attachment. The concentrator attachment is what I REALLY need now, since I recently got my hair cut in a shorter asymmetrical bob.
I have straight fine hair, but lots of it. It tends to get dry and frizzy in humid Florida weather. I noticed really shiny hair ever since I have been using this Ion hair dryer. As I recall, my old hair dryer left my hair frizzy and dry looking. It pretty much does what it claims. I think it is quiet on "low" setting and not too bad on "high" setting. I used the cool shot often, and it still works. Air power at "high" setting is ample enough for my type of hair, and I can get it all done in 5 minutes - in half the time it would have taken my old regular, non-ion blow dryer.
CONS: The only issue is that I wish I had not misplaced my concentrator attachment. Without it and at the "high" speed setting, my hair gets blown around more than I like.
I am impressed at how long it has been running. I dropped it a a few times, and it just keeps going!
