I have used many white noise machines over the last 30 years. I compares very favorably to the larger Brookstone (over a $100.00) and far better than the smaller Brookstone (about $90.00) which does not have enough volume for a noisy place such as a hotel. I find the sound smooth and clean. And has enough volume for the noisiest places. I am a trained professional musician.It comes with an 110 AC/DC adapter cord and that can be used in the US. For other places buy a 220-240V AC/DC universal adapter cord (from places like Radio Shack) and you can use it anywhere in the world. It doesn't then require batteries or a power converter. It really runs on 6V DC and the cord that comes with it converts 110 AC to 6V DC. You might need a universal plug convert for places other than Europe. But they cost a couple of dollars.
This machine is a true bargain and cheap enough to have more than one for traveling.

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend, who kept complaining that he couldn't get to sleep sometimes because the house was too quiet. I looked at a much more expensive sound therapy machine at the mall, but it didn't have white noise, which is what he said he wanted. I thought this one was awfully cheap, but figured I'd try it before investing in a more expensive one.
We tried it the first night, and we weren't happy with the white noise sound, but love the falling rain and the running stream. A few days later, I ended up stealing it from his side of the bed and putting it on mine, and I love the thing! Within 5 minutes, I am sound asleep. I love the volume control too, which some machines don't have. I'm probably going to buy one for everyone I know for Xmas next year - I'm that happy with it! Great value for the price too. Goes to show you don't always have to spend more to get a great product.

I have try several other machines, this is by far the best, & worth all the money; the sound is really the best you can get, first of all this has no limit time to play, all the other machine from Conair have a timer, and only work with a timer up to 60 minutes, so after the 60 minute is up...you have to reset.... this make no sense, just when you are about to fall a sleep, the machine stop, but not this machine, it play all night, ...that is right, all night... some other machine are cheaper but they have a light which can not close all the way, the light keep me awake, this machine have not light, some other sleep machine included radio, but the sound is not has good, they spend the quality on radio, not the sleep sound, but this machine is made only for sleeping, no light, no radio, therefore the manufactured did they best on quality sound, it really make a difference & remember it play all night.........Customer Review: Just what we needed...

We needed some background noise for our little ones while they slept (small house, lots of kids). At first I thought I'd only use the "white noise" function, but we have actually come to appreciate some of the other sound options. My boys like to use Tropical Rainforest and Thunderstorm in the background when playing pretend. :-) The volume control is very nice and is easily adjusted, even with your foot while you hold a sleeping baby! We did not experience any high pitched noises from the machine. We personally don't use the automatic shut off feature, but I can see how that would be an added benefit to some. My only complaint is that I wish the automatic shut off had an indicator light on it so it would be a little easier to know if it had been accidentally turned on. Otherwise, we are very pleased with it.Customer Review: Great product for people with little ones!

We bought this product to use in our daughter's room (she's less than a year old). We had previously used a small desktop fan on the floor to "white noise" out the house sounds (we have hardwood floors throughout the house and everything sounds like it's happening just outside the door). While the fan was okay, this is MUCH better.
It's smaller, lighter weight and I was happy to get rid of the fan since it cooled the room down considerably (something we didn't need in the middle of winter in New England). We bought a second one for our room. Our home is close to the highway and at night it now feels like we are miles away from the busy road.
I also like the battery/plug option. It'll be handy for when we travel.
This is going to be the baby shower gift I give from now on!
